MESI

메시 Mesi Meshi (めし) is Japanese for cooked rice or a meal — two posts relay that the name means 'rice, a meal'.

Data as of · Published ·

Mesi is a Japanese home-style rice-bowl restaurant in the 'Seongsu Salon' building on Sangwon 2-gil, a short walk from Ttukseom Station exit 5. Salmon sake-don and suki-shabu cost 14,500 won, beef and chicken bowls 10,500 won, and mentaiko cream udon 11,500 won, each served as an individual tray with miso soup and pickles. Posts up to March 2026 give each of these 500 won lower. We read 30 posts dated 12 June 2025 to 1 October 2026; 26 are visits to this restaurant, and four were about other places and set aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. There is a kotatsu table at the back where you sit on the floor with shoes off. Twelve posts mention it; three actually sat there. One found it already taken, and another skipped it because of a husband's bad knees. The rest of the room is mostly two-person tables with some for four.
  2. Fourteen posts said portions were large. Two posts separately noticed that the salmon bowl has salmon all the way under the onions, not just on top. Ten described the salmon as thickly cut.
  3. Expect a wait at lunch. Nine posts waited or saw a queue; one arrived around 12:30 on a weekday to five groups ahead, another said they had to sign up and wait on every visit. Names go on a handwritten list at the door. Posts that came around 6 pm on a weekday, late in the evening, or right at weekday opening were seated at once, and one noticed a line forming right behind them.
  4. Eighteen posts describe a one-to-five-minute walk from Ttukseom Station, mostly from exit 5; one said exit 3 and another exit 4.
  5. Nine posts called it good value. One pair paid 24,000 won for a salmon bowl and a chicken bowl (August 2025); another paid 46,000 won for four dishes (January 2026). Several said this is cheap for Seongsu.
  6. Six posts said the mentaiko cream udon was not greasy, including one writer who normally avoids cream dishes.
  7. Six posts called it quiet; one ate alone on a weekend evening and counted two other solo tables. Eight called the room small, one called it roomy.
  8. Seven posts mention draft beer and four ordered it. The free glass for solo diners on weekday evenings is a menu promotion that many posts repeat; no writer received it themselves (one heard a friend did).
  9. Six posts went with friends, two with a partner, one with a mother, one with a group of coworkers, and one alone. Plenty of posts call it good for solo dining, but only one writer actually went alone.

Parking

3 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park3 of 25 posts

Many posts copy the note that a designated street space (16-32-26) out front is the restaurant's. Three posts describe parking in their own words, splitting between three spaces (two posts) and two (one). One suggests the Seongsu 1-ga public lot about three minutes' walk away when it is full.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 7 (of 25 posts read)
Step at the entrance3 of 25 posts

No post puts it below ground. Of seven posts that mention the floor, four say second floor, one says ground floor, and two say the door is up about half a flight of stairs — it seems to sit a few steps above the street.

No post entered with a wheelchair or stroller. Three mention climbing stairs to the door, and none mention a lift or ramp — which means nobody wrote about one, not that there isn't one.

No post describes the restroom from experience. One post's info box says it is inside and unisex, but that reads as copied listing data, so we did not count it. We don't know.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up. Posts from August 2025 to March 2026 list the salmon bowl and suki-shabu at 14,000 won, beef and chicken bowls at 10,000 and cream udon at 11,000; posts from July 2026 on show each 500 won higher. A May 2026 post still says 14,000 but covers several visits, so we can't date it. The large-size surcharge is given as 2,000 won in one post and 7,000 in another.
  • Twenty posts give opening hours, nearly all copied from the listing: weekdays 11:30–21:30 (break 14:30–17:30, last order 20:45), Saturdays 11:30–20:30 (break 15:00–17:00, last order 19:45), closed Sundays. One post gives the weekday break as 14:30–15:30.
  • Seven posts list the phone number 0507-1321-1121. Two relay that only the first dinner seating (17:30) can be booked, and one went at opening because lunch takes no reservations. We have not confirmed this.
  • Two batches of posts follow a shared template. Posts from October 2025 to July 2026 repeat the 'rice-bowl master on Japan's OBS' line, the chef's three picks, and a near-identical sentence about the yakimochi (five posts); four posts from August–September 2026 end with the same hashtag set. None discloses sponsorship, and three say they paid themselves. The chef's training and TV appearance come from the restaurant's own signage, so we did not count them.
