KATSUME
카츠메 Katsume The sign spells the name かつめ in Japanese kana; katsu is the Japanese word for a breaded cutlet, and no post explains the rest of the name.

A low-temperature tonkatsu bar half a floor below street level in an alley off Seoulsup 2-gil, near Seoul Forest. Counter seats wrap around an open kitchen in a U shape; the mixed cutlet plate is 23,000 won, loin 17,000 and tenderloin 19,000, each with rice, miso soup and cabbage salad. People add cold soba (15,000 to 17,000 won) and a 5,000-won milk-bread sando. We read 30 posts from 4 to 30 September 2026, and all 30 describe an actual meal there. The place is new, so every post falls within a single month.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Every seat is at the counter. Fifteen posts say so (one: there are no separate tables, just a U-shaped bar with quite a few seats), and none mentions a table. Twenty-one posts describe the open kitchen, where you can watch the breading and frying from your seat. One post warned it can feel a little cramped at peak times.
- Four posts walked straight in, all on weekdays or deliberately off-peak. One that arrived just after 11 on a weekday sat at once but saw it fill up after noon. No post actually queued at a weekend; that is only guessed. There is a CatchTable kiosk at the door, and three posts mention chairs to wait on.
- Two posts found the food slow and one found it quick. A repeat visitor waited over 20 minutes with no warning and found the staff curt; another advised pre-ordering through CatchTable because it takes a while. One sponsored post said rice and soup arrived about 15 minutes after ordering.
- You order by scanning a QR code at your seat; fifteen posts say so. One could not find it at first because the sticker is inside the cutlery drawer, and you can pay at the counter on the way out. Nearly every post mentions a water tap at each seat, Maldon salt, and cutlery in a drawer.
4 more
- Fifteen posts call the crust crisp and eleven mention juiciness. Several said it is more of a light, crumbly crunch than a hard one; one said the coating never slid off or went soggy. Two noted no porky smell and two found it not greasy.
- Three posts found the seasoning mild; one said the soba broth was light enough for children. The low-sugar, low-salt bread is the house's own claim, repeated in many posts, and we did not count it.
- Three posts went with children and two saw high chairs. Since all seats are at the counter, nobody described how seating worked with a child.
- Four posts found it good value, all about the sides and soba: the 5,000-won sando, the single tenderloin piece, the generous soba. None called it expensive.

Parking
3 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no parking of its own; three posts say so in their own words, and many info boxes agree. One family drove, parked at the Seongdong district sports centre public lot and walked over. Three posts describe walking from Seoul Forest station exit 5.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 12 of 30 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 2 of 30 posts |
You go down to get in. Twelve posts describe going down to a basement or semi-basement, and five of them say it is only about half a flight. One said the floor sits nearly level with the street so it is easy to spot; two mention walking down stairs.
Nobody wrote about a step at the door, wheelchair or pushchair access, or a lift. That means we do not know, not that there is none, though several posts describe going down roughly half a flight of stairs.
The toilet is inside the restaurant; two posts say so, one adding it was roomy and clean. Whether it is split by gender appears only as a label in one post's table (shared), which we did not count.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Opening hours seem to have changed in mid-September. Sixteen posts up to 18 September give 11:00 to 21:00 daily (last order 20:00); six from 24 September give 11:30 to 20:30 (last order 19:30); one on 26 September still says 11:00 to 21:00. All are copied info boxes, so check before going. One post says it is open every day of the year and one says there is no afternoon break.
- Prices are consistent across September posts; only the premium loin is listed at 21,000 won by three posts and 17,000 by one. For a whole meal, one receipt shows 50,000 won for two (mixed plate, basil-tomato soba, a sando and a draught beer), and another post estimates about 15,000 won a head. Adding 5,900 won turns a main into a set with a drink and a side.
- Eleven posts give the phone number 0507-1425-8581; one gives a different number. Many say bookings go through CatchTable, but only one post actually booked ahead. The tip to pre-order through CatchTable appears in several posts in near-identical wording.
- Corkage is not free: eight posts repeat the same line, evenings only, 30,000 won up to 750 ml and 60,000 won above. All copy a notice; nobody actually brought a bottle.
- Only one post commented on staff: a repeat visitor found answers curt and the service unfriendly. One post is not enough to characterise the staff.
- Many of the 30 posts repeat the same phrases in the same order: Japanese dining mood meets Seoul Forest local vibe, the bread cabinet and drying crumbs, the first tofu katsu in Korea, YBD pork, the Seoul International Garden Show. One post discloses sponsorship, one says it received the meal, one says it paid, and 27 say nothing. We treated those phrases as the house's own lines and did not count them.
