Hanyang Tteokbangatgan

한양떡방앗간 Hanyang is the old name of Seoul and a tteok-bangatgan is a rice-cake mill; the shop says it is a third-generation rice-cake maker that pulls its own garaetteok (rice-cake sticks) for the tteokbokki.

Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

Hanyang Tteokbangatgan is a rice-cake tteokbokki snack shop in a basement at 3 Wangsimni-ro 4ga-gil, Seongsu-dong 1-ga. Six posts priced the tteokbokki, three thick sticks of garaetteok plus a sheet of fish cake, at 6,000 won; a plate of fried snacks and the sundae were also 6,000 won, and the rice-cake churros 3,000 won. You order at a kiosk by the door and fetch spoons, plates, pickled radish and water from a self-serve bar. We read 14 posts dated 25 March to 17 September 2026, ten of them from people who ate there. Two were about other restaurants (including the izakaya upstairs) and were set aside; two more, a list of rice-cake shops and a visit that found the shop closed, were not counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ordering is by kiosk: eight of the ten visit posts said so, placing it near the door. One post adds that you return your tray to the dish counter when done.
  2. The room is small. Six posts called it cramped or cosy and none called it roomy. The three that counted gave three tables, about four seats and about five tables. The walls are covered in customers' graffiti; one post noticed crayons left out by the water dispenser for that purpose.
  3. Three sticks of rice cake look like little, but four posts said it filled them up; two writers left food. One post found the portion on the small side.
  4. Three posts put it about two minutes' walk (200-238 m) from exit 7 of Ttukseom station and three minutes from exit 1 of Seoul Forest station.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Three posts put it about two minutes' walk (200-238 m) from exit 7 of Ttukseom station and three minutes from exit 1 of Seoul Forest station.

Getting inside

In a basement1 of 10 posts

The shop is below street level. Only one post described it first-hand, saying the way down is not stairs; another likened the entrance to a car-park ramp.

One post came with a stroller: no stairs, but the room was so narrow the stroller was hard to get in. No one wrote about a wheelchair or a door sill — that means no one said, not that there is none.

No one described the toilet. One post copied a listing saying there is an indoor unisex toilet; we did not count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 12 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat is disputed: one post said it is spicier than Shin Ramyun, two said it was not spicy.
  • Three posts found the fried snacks crisp and one found them stale. Another, visiting around 3:30 pm, got hard fried snacks and undercooked rice cake that had to be redone.
  • Two posts mention waiting: one found it full at 12:15 and waited about seven minutes; one walked straight in at 4 pm on a Saturday. One post says food is cooked to order and takes about ten minutes.
  • Only three posts say who they came with: two with friends (one pushing a stroller) and one alone. None mention family or a larger group.
  • Eight posts list hours of 11:30 to 21:00 and six give last orders at 20:30, mostly copied from listings. Closing days disagree: posts up to early June 2026 say open daily, a 23 June post says closed Mondays, and on 22 August one writer found it shut on a Saturday (though someone ate there on a Saturday afternoon before May). We can't tell whether the schedule changed, so check before going.
  • Prices held steady from March to August 2026, with tteokbokki at 6,000 won. One post noted 2,000 won a stick might seem steep but said the sticks are thick and filling; others called it fair or cheap, and none flatly called it expensive. Two friends paid 12,000 won for tteokbokki and sundae.
  • Four posts give the phone number 010-9976-6246; one list post gave 0507-1345-5787. One post copied a listing saying reservations are possible, but no one says they booked.
