Ttukseom Sogeumgui

뚝섬소금구이 sogeumgui means meat grilled with nothing but salt; the shop was called Ttukseom Donga until late 2025

Three minutes' walk from Ttukseom station, down a lane off Sangwon-gil: a stone-plate salt-grill house. In late 2025 it changed its name from Ttukseom Donga to Ttukseom Sogeumgui — five writers record it, and one warns that Kakao Map still lists the old name. Pork belly and shoulder are ₩16,000 for 180g, collar fan ₩17,000, five-layer belly and jowl ₩18,000, and 1++ Hanwoo brisket ₩29,000; and order meat and any soju, beer or imported beer is ₩3,000 — twenty writers mention it and eight say it is why they came. Kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken, onion and mushrooms arrive on the plate with the meat (twenty-five writers), and you finish with barley fried rice or the scorched crust from a pot of rice. It is roomy — a dozen tables, long benches, and a private room that takes up to eighteen — which twenty writers name as the point for work dinners. The toilets are inside and separated by sex (five writers), and there are air conditioners along the walls and ceiling (five). At lunch it becomes another restaurant, serving grilled fish with rice and bean stew to the offices nearby. There is no parking.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Not one writer calls this place expensive — fourteen count the price as the point. The arithmetic is simple: order meat and soju, beer or imported beer is ₩3,000, whatever you pick. Writers keep coming back to it — imported beer at that price, five bottles for ₩15,000, and all this in a district where nothing is cheap. Eight say the sign is what got them through the door; one abandoned the walk home for an unplanned dinner. Three things to know. It applies only with meat, not with a rice-and-stew order. The tablet lists drinks at both ₩5,000 and ₩3,000 — one writer ordered the wrong line and had it corrected. And drinks are self-serve, from a fridge in the middle of the room. The meat, too, reads cheap for Seongsu: writers call the prices reasonable for the area, one noting that round here portions are usually small and dear, and this was not. Onnuri gift vouchers are accepted, per one post, and another notes it as a shop taking the fuel-relief voucher.
  2. This is a room you book for a work dinner — twenty writers remark on the size and sixteen of them on the private room or the long tables. Three actually count: the room takes up to eighteen and the floor up to sixty; a dozen four-tops with two more by the window; two group tables and seven four-tops besides the room. The room has a door — quiet enough to keep a party to itself, another writer noting the partitions. Four saw a company dinner in progress, one of them saying she has never come and not found one. Twenty-four writers call it clean, and they say why that matters in a grill house: tables and floors that stick, smoke that makes an hour hard to sit through, the smell of fat that follows you home. Here one noticed none of it, another compares the shine to a café, and a third reports the drip tray still dry at the end of the meal. Five write about the air conditioning — three units along each wall, ceiling cassettes that keep the room cool over a live grill. One writer, though, calls it an ordinary neighbourhood grill house — nothing designed or atmospheric, just a comfortable place for meat and a drink after work. If you are coming for the fashionable Seongsu, read that one first.
  3. Three minutes from Ttukseom station — twenty writers say so and not one calls it far. They differ on the exit, though: six say exit 3 and six say exit 4 (two give the distance as a little over 200 metres). One writes the route out: from exit 4, turn back, find the Shinhan Bank, and take the lane beside it. Another: from exit 3, the first lane on your left and straight down. Either way it is inside a lane, and five writers say the sign is hard to miss — red, loud, pleasantly dated. Mind the name when you look it up. The change was recent enough that map and signboard disagreed for a while: one writer had to search Kakao Map for the old name, another warns outright that it may confuse you. A May 2026 post still has the old name in its information block. The custom is local. Writers describe a quiet lane away from the main street, a place already known among the offices and residents nearby, and one regular who simply lives round the corner.
  4. Five writers explain why the toilet matters in a grill house — it is indoors and separated by sex. They report it kept clean and well looked after, and one adds the reason it mattered to her that day: in this heat an outdoor toilet is the last thing you want. One qualifies it: separated, yes, and a little cramped, but fine. All five looked for themselves. Three other posts copy the amenity list from the shop's map entry — group seating, wi-fi, separate toilets, high chairs, corkage — but a list is not an observation, so we left wi-fi and high chairs empty: nobody writes about seeing either.
  5. You grill it yourself — and the plate arrives already laid out. Three writers say plainly that nobody cooks for you; only one reports a member of staff taking over the tongs, so the house rule is evidently self-service. What you get instead is a full plate: twenty-five writers record the same thing — bracken, kimchi, bean sprouts, mushrooms and onion set around the meat. Most count it a pleasure: fat-fried kimchi, bracken gone chewy, and, as one notes, plenty of grill houses now forbid grilling kimchi at all. One writer turns it over: the kimchi and sprouts are already on the plate, so you have no say in it; another finds the plate so full there is little room left for the meat. Three sauces come per person — salt, fresh wasabi and soy. Three writers single out the wasabi for being the real root, sharp and clean on the pork, one warning how fierce it is. Three name the soy as the surprise: sweet rather than salty, and the thing that makes the meat. The side dish named most often is spring-onion kimchi — one regular stakes her local credentials on it, another says she has never before asked for a kimchi refill twice in a grill house. Five pick out the pickled chilli, and five record the sides being topped up; one notes you order extra sides from the tablet.

Nobody writes about wheelchair or pushchair access. In twenty-eight posts the words ramp, threshold and step never appear. It is on the ground floor and appears to be entered straight from the lane, but whether there is a step at the door, we do not know. Of the room itself we know a good deal. A dozen four-tops, long group tables and a private room with a door; eight writers say the tables are set well apart, one noting you are not pressed against the next party. One reckons it holds sixty. So there is likely ample room to move — our inference, not a record. One writer found the toilet cramped. One post is by a parent who brought a child, but nothing says she used a high chair — two others merely copy "high chairs" from the shop's amenity list.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • These twenty-eight posts are not an even record — they bunch into four months after the shop changed its name. In late 2025 Ttukseom Donga became Ttukseom Sogeumgui. Of the twenty-nine posts we read, twenty-seven fall between 20 May and 24 September 2026; before that there is a single December 2025 post, written when it still had the old name. Of how it was judged before the change we have almost nothing. Those four months carry the marks of a campaign. Two clusters share their hashtag blocks verbatim, and the sentence about low-temperature ageing and same-day butchery appears, in almost identical words, in more than ten posts — because the shop itself prints it on the signboard and the menu. We therefore did not count it as a judgement about the meat, keeping only what writers saw for themselves. One blog states its own policy — that it writes honestly even when sponsored — the single post here carrying any disclosure. That cluster's information block is demonstrably wrong. Two posts give identically "open daily 16:00–22:00, no closing day, no break"; the other twenty-six give 10:00–22:00 with a break from 16:00 to 17:00. We kept the bodies of those two — their meat, their photographs, their opinions — but did not count their hours. Nobody writes about lunch. Thirteen posts describe the grilled fish sets, the pot rice and the bean stew from the menu or from the next table, and promise to come back at midday; not one review of a lunch set exists among what we read. The fish prices come from a single post copying the menu. About the lunch trade we know almost nothing. Two small disagreements. Writers split evenly between exits 3 and 4 — both three minutes, so there appear to be two ways in. And while the menu labels the meat Korean or Jeju (three posts copy it), one writer says he could not see an origin notice posted anywhere, and wondered where the kimchi came from.
  • Nobody writes about floors — the address is the ground floor and all twenty-eight posts leave it there. No upstairs appears anywhere. There is one private room at the back, big enough for four four-tops and holding up to eighteen; that is the whole of what we know. No basement, no roof.
  • On queueing the record is divided — one writer has seen a line, another walked in and sat down. She had passed the place before and found people waiting outside; he arrived without a booking and was seated at once. On timing they are clearer. One, who hates a crowd, went at eleven and had the room to herself until parties of six and eight filled it as she left — at lunch here, she says, the early win. Another watched the last tables go while she ate; a third was comfortable only because she came before six on a weekday. Read it as filling up from about six in the evening. Four writers say to phone ahead for a group — reservations by telephone, walk-ins otherwise. For one or two you can likely just turn up; for the room at the evening peak, book.
