신주양꼬치 홍대점 A lamb-skewer house in the lane beside the Hongdae three-way junction, where a charcoal grill sunk into each table turns the skewers for you and the kitchen keeps going until three in the morning.
Data as of · Published ·
Shinjoo Yangkkochi is a lamb-skewer house on the ground floor of a lane beside the Hongdae three-way junction, next door to the Samgeori Pocha, a few minutes from the front gate of Hongik University. Sangsu station, exit 2, is nearer than Hongdae-ipgu. It opens at three in the afternoon and closes at three the next morning; sixteen writers noted those hours and not one of them disagrees. Skewers come ten to a portion, onto a charcoal grill sunk into the table that turns them for you. Alongside the lamb the menu runs to Chinese dishes — sweet-and-sour pork, shredded pork in bean paste, tomato and egg — plus noodle soup and fried rice. Two writers note that the company also runs branches in Busan, Changwon and Jeju, but that this is its only one in Seoul. The posts we read run from December 2024 to August 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Nobody has to turn the skewers. A charcoal grill is sunk into each table and the skewers rotate on their own once you lay them in the groove. Several writers say this is the best thing about the room. Two warn that the middle of the grill runs hottest, so cooked skewers should be lifted onto the rail above rather than left down there, and that the chilli-pasted ones catch faster than the plain.
- Half the writing about this place is about the smell of lamb. The same arc recurs: someone who avoids mutton is dragged along, braces, and finds nothing to brace against. One writer dissents — the lamb smell is not entirely absent, she says, so anyone sensitive to it should know. Since the same paragraph also calls the smell mild, we have counted her on neither side and simply reproduce her here.
- Two writers stopped at "fine". One calls it pleasant rather than remarkable, and a place to go when the occasion fits rather than a place to seek out. The other says outright that he could not tell it from other lamb-skewer houses. In a set of posts this uniformly warm, both are worth keeping in view.
- Two things arrive without being ordered. First the standing dishes — peanuts, pickled mustard stem, pickled onion, radish kimchi — which one writer refilled more than once. Second the dips: salt, cumin, and cumin-chilli seasoning in both a mild and a hot version, four pots to a table. Two writers piled on the hot one, regretted it, and cut it with the mild.
- What a meal costs here scales cleanly with the party. Two people record 64,000 won for three portions of skewers with noodle soup and beer; a four recorded 103,000 with two kinds of skewer, sweet-and-sour pork, dumplings, two fried rices and beer; another four recorded 104,000 with three kinds of skewer, sweet-and-sour pork and a bottle of grain spirit. Four writers remark that for the middle of Hongdae almost nothing on the cooked-dish side breaks twenty thousand.
- They do not agree about the size. Five writers call the room roomy — six of them talked across a table without raising their voices, and one thought it would take a work party. One writer calls it on the small side. He walked in at four in the afternoon when there was a single other table in the place.
- The room does not smell of grilled meat, and writers keep saying so. Several credit the extraction; one watched the owner clean the floor himself after the last table left. Against that, one writer found the extractor fan loud enough to make her ear ache, and adds that she does not know whether it was only her table.
- Saying you will come back and having come back are counted separately here. Six writers say they will. Two had already returned when they wrote: one because the first visit had gone well, the other because she had missed out on the Tsingtao last time.

What people order
The most ordered dish is yang-kkochi (양꼬치 (10꼬치)) — 17 of 18 posts.

It is at street level. The registered address ends in "1st floor"; two writers say the sign and frontage are visible straight from the lane, and one notes the folding glass front that shows the room from outside. There is a different business — a cocktail bar — in the basement of the same building, so a staircase down is the wrong door. Two reviews of that bar turned up under this shop's name.
Nobody wrote about the doorway. Across all eighteen posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step and threshold do not appear once. Two writers note that the shop is at street level with a folding glass front, but not one of them looked at whether there is a lip at the door. That is an absence of evidence, not an answer — if it matters, the shop is worth a phone call.
The lavatories are inside the restaurant. Four writers place them at the back of the room, three say men's and women's are separate, three call them clean and one calls them so-so. Nobody describes going out into a building corridor. Whether there is an accessible cubicle, nobody says.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-09-25 | 2 posts in one day |
|---|---|
| 2026-09-24 | 3 posts in one day |
| 2026-09-23 | 2 posts in one day |
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- We counted eighteen posts out of twenty-eight. Ten went into the bin: they appeared on ten different blogs in the seven days between 22 and 28 September 2026, they all walk through the same four dishes in the same order, they all copy the shop's own marketing line about six-month-old lamb and the flap cut word for word, and not one of the ten mentions a price. None says who went, or when, or whether anyone waited; two clusters share the same five hashtags in the same order. None declares a sponsorship, but none reads like an account of a meal either, and including them would have inflated every number on this page by more than half. Two further posts were dropped for being about the cocktail bar in the same building's basement.
- Sangsu station comes up more often than Hongdae-ipgu. Four posts put it at three to five minutes' walk from exit 2 at Sangsu, but two of those are lifted from the Naver listing — only two writers describe walking it. One arrived from Hongdae-ipgu instead. Four writers give the same landmark rather than a station: the Samgeori Pocha, with this place in the lane immediately beside it. That sign is the faster thing to look for.
- Nobody reports queueing; several report the room filling up. Only two posts mention a wait at all, and they disagree — one says a queue formed after they were seated, the other that they walked straight in. Beyond that, two writers arrived early on a weekday to an empty room and left a full one, and one squeezed into a seat at the back at eleven on a Friday night. No one records how long they waited, because no one waited.
- No post in our count declares a sponsorship. Of the eighteen, seven state that they paid their own way — one adds the tag "not sponsored" — and eleven say nothing either way. Saying nothing is not the same as having paid. One of the two posts we discarded does carry a sponsorship tag, but it is about the cocktail bar downstairs, not this shop.
- Ask about closing days and any afternoon break. Sixteen posts give the hours and every one of them says the same thing: three in the afternoon to three in the morning, daily. Only two say the shop never closes for a day, and not one of the eighteen mentions a mid-shift break or a last order — which means nobody wrote it down, not that there isn't one. Several writers came precisely because of the late licence: one after wandering Hongdae at eleven on a Friday finding everything shut, another looking for somewhere to go after a first round in the club streets.
- This is the only branch in Seoul, but the name is not. Two writers note company-run branches in Busan, Changwon and Jeju while this is the only Seoul address. The shop's own sign and its customers say Hongdae branch; the licence is registered under the bare name. Worth knowing before a search turns up a review of a different city.
