Jeungjeung Ilsang

증증일상 Jeungjeung ilsang is the Korean reading of 蒸蒸日上, 'rising higher day by day'; the first character 蒸 means to steam, and the sign in the shop wishes everyone who eats its steamed dumplings a little more progress each day.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jeungjeung Ilsang is a handmade dim sum shop on the second floor above a vintage clothing store, on the fashion-shop lane by Seogyo Elementary near Hongik Univ. Station exit 9. The draws are guantangbao (soup dumplings) and shengjianbao, buns fried only on the bottom; noodles, rice bowls and larger dishes fill out the menu. Dumplings run 8,000-8,300 won a plate and noodles or rice bowls 9,000-12,000 won; posts through May 2026 had guantangbao at 7,800 and shengjianbao at 7,500. You order from a tablet or kiosk, mix your own dipping sauce at the self-serve bar from black vinegar, chili oil, garlic and scallion, and pick up a yogurt drink there for dessert. We read 30 posts dated 14 March to 12 October 2026; 25 of them describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Twenty posts mention the broth inside the dumplings. Every table has a card explaining how to eat them: set the dumpling on a spoon, tear a small hole, drink the broth first. One diner wrote that a single guantangbao held 'a whole bowl of soup'. The shrimp-and-chive xiaolongbao is the exception: one post found it had no broth and a skin as thick as a steamed bun, and another felt the beef xiaolongbao skin was too thick.
  2. Five posts say it is an easy walk from the station: four minutes, four to five minutes from exit 9, under ten from exit 8. One adds that it is close whether you arrive on Line 2, the Airport Railroad or the Gyeongui-Jungang line.
  3. Eight posts walked straight in and one describes waiting. The no-wait visits were at opening, weekday lunch between 12 and 1, a rainy weekday, a Saturday evening, a weekend peak, after 8 pm and late evening. But an October post by a regular of several years says there is now a wait as a matter of course.
  4. Ten posts note an outdoor terrace; the summer posts mostly say it was too hot and sat inside.
7 more
  1. Twelve posts ordered on a machine, though they split between a kiosk and a tablet at each table. One diner missed a way to have dishes sent out one at a time.
  2. Four posts mention wireless phone chargers at the tables or under the kiosk.
  3. Four posts found something spicy and one did not. The mapo tofu splits them: 'a little hot' and 'somewhat spicy' versus 'not spicy, went down easily'. The Chongqing noodles were called numbingly strong. Several diners chose the Suzhou noodles as the mild option.
  4. Four posts call something salty: the braised pork rice bowl, the beef brisket noodles and the shengjianbao filling. A regular adds that the tomato-egg noodles are not seasoned the same way every time.
  5. No post calls it expensive; five say the prices are fair. One couple ate for under 40,000 won, and another order of five items plus drinks came to 51,500 won.
  6. Two posts are solo meals and both found it comfortable eating alone at the bar table. Five went with friends and five with a partner.
  7. Two posts saw high chairs, and the self-serve bar has child-size spoons and forks. One family came back with their child, who happily ate the Suzhou noodles.

Getting inside

Second floor12 of 24 posts
Step-free accessyes 0 · no 1 (of 24 posts read)
Toilet inside2 of 24 posts

Twelve posts describe going up to the second floor; the ground floor is a vintage clothing store and you climb the stairs. One post warns you have to look up to spot the sign.

One post says a stroller has to be left downstairs or carried up. No one mentioned a lift or a step at the entrance; that means nobody wrote about it, not that there isn't one.

Two posts say the toilet is inside the shop: one places it just left of the entrance, the other mentions disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste for customers. No one said whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up. Posts through May 2026 list guantangbao at 7,800, shengjianbao at 7,500 and guobaorou at 15,000 won; from July they are 8,300, 8,000 and 16,000. A May post says har gow and shumai were new additions.
  • Eighteen posts copy the opening hours and seventeen agree: 11:00-22:30, closed Wednesdays. One says Thursdays. Nobody mentioned a break time or last order.
  • Several posts copy the phone number, 02-333-5888. Reservations appear only in copied info blocks; no one wrote about booking a table.
  • Several posts share the same hashtags and run through the same list (dates, team dinners, solo meals, group tables, terrace) in the same order; two even share the directions word for word. None discloses sponsorship, so we counted only what each describes experiencing.
