Kkape Changbi is a book café on the ground floor of the Changbi publishing building in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, run by the publisher together with the coffee brand Brown Hands. An Americano is 4,800 won, a latte 5,300, and there are toasts (egg grill toast 5,500) and cakes. Changbi's own books line a full wall and display tables for sale, and posts describe the tables between them filled with people reading or working on laptops. We read 27 posts from February 2025 to September 2026; 20 describe an actual visit. Three were about other places and four were list or event posts we did not count.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Twelve posts call it quiet, mostly because nearly everyone is reading or working and the music is low. One post disagreed, saying it was not especially quiet and liked it better that way.
  2. Posts split on whether you can read the shelf books for free: four mention a separate set of reading copies (about 40, marked with stickers), three say every book is for sale and must be bought first. Even those who found reading copies said there were few and suggested bringing your own book.
  3. Five posts mention power outlets — at the inner tables and the six-seat work tables; one notes the big tables have built-in sockets while other seats rely on floor power strips.
  4. Seven posts mention the big window looking onto trees and a flowerbed, set back enough that passers-by can't see in. One found the window seats all taken.
4 more
  1. Seven posts mention the stamp card: one stamp per drink, each of the ten stamps a different design that together form a picture. One post passes on, as hearsay, that ten stamps earn a free coffee.
  2. Seven posts say it is a short walk from Mangwon Station — one, two or three minutes, mostly from Exit 1.
  3. Four posts found prices cheap or fair for the area; one thought drinks a little pricey, noting iced drinks cost 500 won more than hot.
  4. Four posts say you order at a kiosk by the counter facing the entrance, with a choice of beans.

Eleven posts place the café on the ground floor. Two mention extra seating on basement level 1; one says that space needs a reservation, though staff offered it to their book club on the spot.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair or stroller access — that is unknown, not absent. One post mentions taking an elevator down to the toilets.

The toilets are on basement level 1 inside the building, reached by stairs from the café (four posts) or by elevator (one post). Two posts say they are separate for men and women; one found them a bit far away.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 23 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Staff reports split two to one: two posts describe unprompted kindness, one found them oddly unfriendly and would not return.
  • Nobody wrote about queuing. One found it nearly empty at 4 pm on a weekday; others saw it fill up, but no one reported failing to get a seat.
  • Few posts say who they came with: friends in three, a partner in two, a book club in one, a husband in one. Solo visits are implied but not stated, so we did not count them.
  • Opening hours appear to have changed: five posts up to January 2026 give weekdays 08:30–21:00 and weekends 12:00–21:00, while four posts from February 2026 give a 20:30 close. One March 2026 post still says 21:00, and one gives an 08:00 opening. All come from info lines, so check before going.
  • Two phone numbers appear: 0507-1378-3306 in three posts and 070-4113-0701 in one. No one explained how to reserve the basement space.
