AL NUOVO

알 누오보 Al Nuobo Al nuovo is Italian for roughly 'to the new' or 'anew'.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Al Nuovo is a ground-floor café with an Italian brunch-and-dinner room upstairs, in the same building as the Ticket to Escape escape-room venue, up the hill from Hongik University Station exit 9 toward the Mapo Lifelong Learning Center. Upstairs people eat porcini-cream gnocchi, Papa's arrabbiata, a pasta served in an earthenware pot, mushroom-cream risotto and French toast; downstairs is coffee and desserts. On the July 2026 menu eggs Benedict is 16,000 won, the arrabbiata 19,000, lemon-dill butter pasta 20,000 and striploin steak 50,000. We read 30 posts dated January 2025 to October 2026. We set aside 3 (escape-room reviews and a wine-shop ad); 25 describe actual visits. Opening hours and prices both changed around spring 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Fourteen posts called it roomy, and they say why: square tables much larger than in photos, with space for extra plates; racks for winter coats; tables for six. Four mention the high ceiling and seven the big windows and daylight.
  2. Six posts note that the upstairs kitchen is open to the room; one group sat at a four-top right in front of it.
  3. Nine posts mention heat. The arrabbiata accounts for four; the earthenware-pot pasta, aglio olio (ordered spicy), shrimp-anchovy pasta, basil-cream shrimp pasta and shakshuka also came up. One warns that whole chilies in the arrabbiata can catch you off guard; the pot pasta can be ordered milder.
  4. Eight posts found the staff kind: they asked which dish a child would share and served pepper and chili on the side, found a table as fast as they could for a pair who kept dithering at a full Friday lunch, and poured an extra glass of wine for a special occasion. One post found it inconvenient that there is no call bell, so every request meant walking to the counter.

  1. Waits vary. Two posts waited: under 15 minutes around 1 p.m. on a July 2025 weekend, and a full room of office workers at Friday lunch in August 2025. Three walked straight in (right at weekend opening, around noon on a weekend, and in January 2025). Another found one other table before 11 a.m. and every table taken by noon.
  2. Three posts walked from the subway: from exit 9 up the lane toward the Mapo Lifelong Learning Center, then in by the CU convenience store. Several warn that the last stretch is a steep hill.
  3. Two posts from June 2025 got a free glass of wine through a social-media review promotion.

Parking

4 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park4 of 25 posts

Three posts drove and four parked. Cars go into a mechanical parking tower beside the building, valet only (two posts describe the valet). In January 2025 it was 3,000 won for two hours, and staff let a slight overrun slide; a March 2026 weekend post paid 6,000 won. The '3,000 won for two hours, then 3,000 per 30 minutes' line is a listing many posts copied.

Separate restrooms1 of 25 posts

The two floors run as separate businesses. Fourteen posts ate upstairs. One writer, finding only café drinks on the ground floor, thought she had come to the wrong place; another was told by staff that meals are upstairs. One post (August 2026) says only espresso drinks are served upstairs, so decaf has to be bought downstairs; another (July 2026) says café customers cannot sit upstairs. On the other hand, one diner bought coffee and ice cream downstairs after the meal and took them back up.

The café is on the ground floor and the restaurant on the second. No visit post says anything about a basement; only a set-aside escape-room review mentions rooms below ground. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none.

Two posts came in with a stroller (March and July 2026); both used the side door by the parking tower and took the elevator to the second floor. The July visit with a child found a high chair and children's tableware. Inside, the floors are linked by a central staircase.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or arriving by wheelchair; the only evidence is the two stroller visits via the elevator. One post copied a 'wheelchair accessible' listing, which we did not count.

Two posts say the restroom is outside the restaurant itself: elsewhere in the building, opened with a key you collect (one post says the key hangs on a teddy bear). One post saw separate men's and women's restrooms.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours changed. Posts from 2025 give 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily for both floors, with an upstairs break from 3 to 4 p.m. After a March 2026 post mentions a notice about new brunch hours, the second floor opens at 11:30 on weekdays and 10:00 on weekends, breaks 3 to 5 p.m. and takes last orders at 8 p.m.; the café keeps 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. One April 2026 post lists 11:30 every day, so we don't know when the 10:00 weekend opening began. All of these are copied listings. One August 2026 post found the second floor still closed at around 11 a.m.
  • Prices rose twice. French toast went from 11,000 won in January 2025 to 14,000 by August 2025. Between March and July 2026 the brunch platter went from 17,000 to 19,000 and French toast to 16,000; the sandwich, 15,000 in summer 2025, is now 18,000, aglio olio went from 13,000 to 16,000 and the striploin from 48,000 to 50,000. The americano that came with brunch was included in January 2025 but cost 3,000 won extra by March 2026. On value, one post found it expensive, three reasonable, and one pricey but fair.
  • Eight posts list the phone number as 0507-1323-0978 and two as 02-324-0978. Booking through Naver or CatchTable appears only in copied listings; one post (June 2025) actually booked, for 4:30 p.m., and found only the dinner menu available from 4 p.m., so brunch dishes were off.
  • Three posts published within October 2–4, 2026 cover the same points in the same order: café downstairs and dining upstairs, the 10% escape-room discount, parking fees, corkage, set menus. None discloses sponsorship, but they read like commissioned copy, so we counted only what the writers say they experienced. The 10% discount for escape-room ticket holders appears in many posts, mostly as hearsay.
