Korean

ASADAL

아사달 Asadal Asadal is the name handed down as the first capital of Gojoseon, Korea's ancient kingdom; the restaurant takes it over from the Korean restaurant of the same name at Seoul's Plaza Hotel.

A Korean fine-dining room on the 15th floor of the KT Gwanghwamun Building West, serving one tasting course at lunch and one at dinner. Posts from August 2026 on give 150,000 won for lunch and 250,000 won for dinner; in May and June there was only a dinner course at 280,000 won. All eleven visit posts describe the same arc: angelica juice and small bites, choosing a pair of chopsticks, a dumpling dish built on the old sinseollo hot pot, wrapped kimchi, beef with pot rice, then desserts and tea sweets. From mid-September the autumn course brought hairtail dumplings, palhyanggye chicken and a pumpkin dessert. We read 13 posts dated 10 May to 12 October 2026; 11 describe a visit. One was about Dowon S, the Chinese restaurant on the same floor, and was set aside; one is a magazine launch feature.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. This is a reservation-only kind of place: seven posts say they booked, mostly through CatchTable. Two got in on a cancellation their spouse caught, and one booked in July for a 4 September seat. Nobody describes queuing.
  2. Seven posts mention the open kitchen; one diner was seated right in front of it, and several describe the chef coming to the table with the old sinseollo vessel or to sauce the ox tongue. Posts count five or about six hall tables, all noting the generous spacing.
  3. Four posts note private rooms, and one ate in a room and praised its view. Room sizes disagree: one post says up to 6 and up to 8, while others relay 8 and 4.
  4. Three posts describe looking down on Gwanghwamun Square through floor-to-ceiling windows. Two others note the KT logo on the glass spoils part of the view, and one wanted a window seat but was placed near the door.

  1. Six posts call the staff kind: seaweed soup brought out for a birthday, wet towels changed with every dish, cold water offered alongside a decaf americano. Several mention leaving with the menu cards and a small box of sweets.
  2. Two posts describe dining alone. One thanks the restaurant for taking a single booking and was told servers usually chat more with solo guests; the other talked with the chef at the end of the meal.

Parking

Posts saying you can park1 of 11 posts

Only one post describes parking first-hand: four hours in the building garage with a meal. A copied summary in another post says three hours free, so the figure is inconsistent; copied notes also say there is no valet.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 4 (of 11 posts read)
Lift to the floor3 of 11 posts

Nobody says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether they came in with a wheelchair or stroller. It is on the 15th floor, and three posts took the elevator up. No post describes bringing children; the no-kids note appears only in one post's copied summary.

No post mentions the restroom — whether it is inside the restaurant or separated by gender. That means we don't know, not that there isn't one.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 12 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post mentions a queue, though nobody says outright that there never is one. One diner arrived about ten minutes early for dinner, waited on a seat outside and was shown in at 17:55.
  • Opening hours come from copied summary blocks. Three posts agree on lunch 11:30–14:30, dinner 18:00–22:00 with a break from 14:30 to 18:00. Five posts say it closes Sundays and Mondays; one says Mondays only. The June magazine feature, from before lunch service, lists dinner 18:00–22:00 only.
  • There is one set price per course, but it changed: May–June 2026 posts give 280,000 won for dinner; from August posts give 250,000 won for dinner and 150,000 won for lunch. Lunch add-ons include abalone (+25,000), aged tilefish (+30,000) and truffle (+15,000), and one post gives a three-glass pairing at 140,000 won. No post totals a full bill with drinks and add-ons.
  • The link to the old Asadal at the Plaza Hotel — its name, its sinseollo and wrapped kimchi — is relayed from the restaurant and press, so we did not count it; posts even disagree on whether that restaurant opened in 1986 or 1976. The magazine dates the current opening to 24 April 2026.
