Cafe

TYPE

타이프 한강점 Taipeu Hangang-jeom TYPE is simply the English word 'type'; Hangang-jeom marks this as the Han River branch of the TYPE coffee brand.

Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →

TYPE Hangang is a café on the fifth floor of the Seogang 8-gyeong building on Tojeong-ro, Mapo, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing Seogang Bridge, Bamseom islet and Yeouido. An Americano is 8,000 won, filter coffee 11,000, the three signature drinks (Hangang, Noeul, Bamseom) 10,000 each and the banana pudding 11,000; in the evening it also pours wine and beer with pizza and other bar food. Three posts mention a card handed over with each drink explaining it and how to drink it. We read 30 posts from March to October 2026: 20 describe a visit, 5 only list it (fireworks-viewing roundups and a magazine piece), and 5 turned out to be about other places, including the Tove tea house one floor down.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. On weekends and public holidays a table is yours for two hours; six posts mention the rule. Two add that anyone working on a laptop for over an hour is asked to use a two-seater or the six-person shared table, and two that you can't change seats when there is a queue. Several posts describe weekday afternoons full of people quietly working on laptops.
  2. Weekend afternoons bring a queue: six posts waited or saw one. One got straight in at 2 pm on a Sunday and watched a line form from 3; one waited five minutes behind a single party at 4 pm on a Saturday; one waited 20 minutes on a weekend afternoon; one took the last free seat at 2 pm on a weekend with a long line behind. One says there is no ticketing system, you are seated in order of arrival. Two posts found empty tables instead, one in the evening and one on an April day when the writer had braced for a wait.
  3. Six posts call it expensive, mostly shrugging it off as the price of the view. Two say the portions are small: one found the Americano cup small, another finished the drink in no time.
  4. Nine posts describe the floor-to-ceiling glass, naming Seogang Bridge's red arch, Bamseom, the National Assembly, the Yeouido towers and the traffic on Gangbyeon Expressway below. Evening visitors say the lights are turned right down so the glass doesn't reflect; one found it so dark her eyes hurt and warns it's poor for reading. Posts mention a candle on each table and lights dimmed with candles handed out around sunset.

  1. Seven posts went with friends, three with a partner or spouse and two with family, one taking a school-age daughter on a day off school. Three posts found it quiet enough for conversation.

Posts saying you can park3 of 20 posts

Three posts came by car: 3,000 won for two hours, then 1,000 won per ten minutes, with an attendant on the ground floor and paid valet available. One post warns spaces are limited and transit is easier; another lists two hours free, but that comes from a copied info list.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 12 (of 20 posts read)
Lift to the floor11 of 20 posts

Eleven posts took the building's lift up, and twelve say they stepped out on the fifth floor; one notes the river is visible from inside the lift. On fireworks night, one writer found the lifts swamped by people from other floors and walked down the fifth-floor emergency stairs by the toilets.

No one mentions a step at the door, a ramp, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That doesn't mean there are barriers — we just don't know. All we know is that a building lift goes up to the fifth floor.

It's unclear whether the toilets are inside the café. One post puts them down the corridor and found them very clean; another places the fifth-floor emergency exit just before the toilet entrance. 'Toilets inside' and 'separate men's and women's' appear only in copied info lists, so we haven't counted them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of the size differ: three posts call it roomy, a whole floor with generous spacing, while one calls it small, about nine tables — that one saw the fireworks-night reserved layout. Another estimates about forty seats.
  • Directions by subway all come from copied info: 460 m, or five to ten minutes on foot, from Exit 3 of Sangsu Station on Line 6, or ten to fifteen minutes from Gwangheungchang. No post describes actually walking there. Two posts warn that it's an office building with almost no café signage outside, so at first you may doubt you're in the right place.
  • Eleven posts give the same hours, 10:00 to 22:00 (six add last orders at 21:00), but all copy the same info block. One says it opens at 11 daily, and another gives Mon–Thu 13:00–20:30 and Fri–Sun 12:00–22:00, adding that private hire changes the schedule. Check before you go.
  • No one says whether it takes bookings on ordinary days; the phone number (0507-1322-2297) appears only in copied info blocks. Only fireworks night runs on reservations: one post describes booking via an open KakaoTalk chat the moment the Instagram notice went up, a table priced at 600,000 won in 2026 with one drink per person, and tables at 400,000 to 550,000 won in 2024.
  • Three copied info lists say pets aren't allowed, while one roundup written without visiting says they are. No post brought an animal.
