Doldamjip is the first of the chicken-stew houses on the path up Byeogun Valley on Suraksan, about ten minutes' walk from Suraksan station on line 7 — five or six of them stand in a row along the stream, and this is the one at the mouth. The kitchen simmers whole free-range chicken or duck for baeksuk, or braises the chicken in a spicy sauce, and you finish by cooking sticky rice down in what is left of the broth. Down the steps opposite the shop are outdoor tables and raised platforms facing the water, and every writer we read sat out there. Chicken takes forty minutes and duck an hour, so booking ahead is effectively the norm. Open every day, 10:30 to 21:00. The posts we read run from August 2025 to May 2026.

What sets it apart
- The seating that matters here is outside, facing the stream. Steps opposite the shop lead down to tables and raised platforms at the water, and one writer found the waterside spots already taken by noon on a summer weekend. But there is less of it than there was: a visitor on their fourth trip, in May 2026, writes that the places right beside the water, where you used to eat with the sound of it running, had all gone. They sat at an outdoor table instead and still liked it.
- Call ahead and the food is on the table as you sit down; turn up cold and you wait. The shop itself says chicken takes forty minutes and duck an hour. Two writers who booked gave a name at the door and found the table already laid. One rang only the night before a summer Saturday and got the last free table in the row of restaurants — the others had filled up by morning — and advises booking a week out in season.
- Two people will struggle to finish one baeksuk. A writer who walked up from the subway ordered the neungi version for two, was taken aback by the sheer volume, left most of the closing porridge and suggests three or four people instead. Another notes the bird itself is large, being free-range.
- You can get here without a car. One writer came by subway alone and puts it at ten minutes on foot from exit 1 at Suraksan station, fifteen at a stroll. The shop sits at the mouth of the valley, so no climbing is involved.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside
No post mentions a floor. Nothing about climbing stairs or going below ground; the shop itself is at road level. The only steps described are the ones down to the stream-side seating, not stairs inside a building. Whether there is an upper floor or a basement, and how many seats are indoors, the posts cannot tell us — all five writers sat outside.
Whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pram, we do not know. In all seven posts, wheelchairs, prams, thresholds, ramps and lifts never come up once — which is not a no, only a silence. Two things we can say: the shop sits at the roadside where the valley path begins, and reaching the tables that face the stream means going down a flight of steps opposite the shop. How many steps, or whether there is another way down, nobody says.
One writer looked at the toilet. They report it is at the entrance to the shop, and warn that it is not the kind you sit on — or possibly that it is; the phrasing left us unable to tell, though the warning tone suggests it is not the usual western fixture. Whether "at the entrance" means indoors or out, whether it is separated by sex, and how far it is from the stream-side tables, nobody wrote down.

Of the 7 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Only one writer actually parked here — in front of the shop, and since they live nearby they called a designated driver home. The others did not use the shop's lot: one group had heard the restaurant lots along the valley were notorious and used the public lot at the valley mouth (₩10,000 for the day at weekends, cash or bank transfer only); another came by taxi. That taxi passenger found the public lot nearly full at noon and spent twenty minutes in the cab at around three, stuck in the queue of cars coming in. How many cars the shop's own lot holds, and whether there is room in high season, we do not know. Several posts say simply "parking available", but that line is copied from the Naver listing, so we have not counted it.
- Nobody reports queueing. The two writers who booked gave a name and sat straight down; the others say nothing about waiting at all. So how long a walk-in waits, we do not know. Three marks of a busy place, though: the waterside tables were already taken by noon on a summer weekend; one group ringing the night before a Saturday found this the only restaurant in the row with a table left; and another watched cars backed up into the car park at three in the afternoon.
- Whether there is a cool seat in summer is not settled. A writer who came in early August mentions a greenhouse-like marquee at the entrance with fans and air conditioning — but says plainly they had read that on someone else's blog, not seen it. They sat outside in the end and found it unbearable once the burner was lit and the drink started. Nobody describes cooling from their own eyes. The stream is not dependable either: the same post found it nearly dried up after a rainless week, and at this lower stretch the water reaches half-way up an adult's calf. The evening mosquitoes, too, come to us only as something a writer was told.
- The phone numbers disagree. Our licence record gives 02-3391-7146, while one post lists 933-1861 / 930-5504 as the reservation line. We could not establish which one is answered today — and since this is a place you book ahead, someone should ring and settle it.
- Only two prices come from someone who paid them — ₩70,000 for the braised chicken and ₩15,000 for the acorn jelly, both August 2025. The baeksuk prices come from posts that copied the menu board. And one May 2026 post repeats its own title three times in the body and is built on an information table and a "five points" list. We kept it in the count — it records a fourth visit, the loss of the waterside seats, and a disagreement with a companion over the acorn jelly dressing — but the writing is plainly worked to a template, and that is worth knowing.
