Samgang Jangeo is an eel restaurant at 542 Samseong-ro, Gangnam, on the main road between Samseong Jungang and Samseong stations. It uses the ground floor (an open hall) and the first basement (private rooms). The signature is a smoked whole eel ordered a day ahead, 255,000 won for three portions. Staff finish it on the grill in your room and serve it with wheat crepes for wrapping. Most posts add the thick eel stew (25,000 won), pot rice (3,000 won) and the house herbal liquor (38,000 won). What sets it apart
- Staff do the grilling — 22 of the 26 visit posts say so. A live eel is first brought to the room in ice water to show you. Then the pre-smoked eel arrives whole on a wooden board, is cut, and is finished on the table grill. Because it comes in already cooked, one writer noted the grilling takes very little time. Two posts mention staff handing them the tail first.
- All 26 visit posts describe rooms or partitioned seating. Several say room sizes range from two people up to a 24-person or 26-seat group table. One post says the VIP room (up to eight) has a minimum spend of 1.5 million won. Ten posts found the rooms quiet, a few noting good soundproofing once the door is shut.
- You need a reservation for the smoked eel. Eighteen posts booked ahead, via Naver, CatchTable or phone. Most say at least a day ahead; one post says the house asked for at least three hours. A '10 eels a day' limit appears in some posts, but that is the house's own claim.
- Ten posts say the eel is not greasy. One writer's partner, who usually avoids eel for that reason, ended up eating more than she did. The rooms are downstairs. Seventeen posts describe being greeted on the ground floor and taken down to a basement room. Several mention that the ground floor is an open hall with partitioned tables. Thirteen posts saw walls of celebrity autographs along the way down — something the house displays, not something we counted. One writer says none of their party of four had phone signal in the basement room, on both of their visits.
Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift. That means no one mentioned them, not that they are missing. Four posts describe walking down stairs to the basement rooms.
One post calls the restroom indoor, and two found it clean, stocked with hair ties, mouthwash and deodorizer. Nobody said whether it is separated by gender or which floor it is on.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Parking is valet in front of the building. Thirteen posts give the fee as 4,000 won and two as 3,000 won. Ten posts describe handing over the car themselves.
- Posts disagree on how the price is quoted. Most give 85,000 won as the per-portion price and 255,000 won for the whole three-portion eel. Two posts wrote 85,000 won for the whole eel. The herbal liquor is 38,000 won in five posts and 35,000 won in one. Three posts call the place pricey; one calls the lunch set good value. Corkage terms (first bottle of wine, sake or traditional liquor free) and the weekday lunch discount are relayed from the house, not counted.
- Opening hours: most posts give daily 11:00-22:00 with a 15:00-17:00 break and last order at 21:00. Nearly all of these are copied info blocks. One post wrote 11:00-21:00. Only one post says there is no regular closing day.
- Two phone numbers appear: 02-508-2220 in eleven posts and 0507-1371-2255 in seven. Several posts say to phone when you want to pre-order the smoked eel with your reservation.
- No post describes queuing. Nearly everyone had a reservation, so we do not know what happens if you walk in.
- One post went with a child, at lunch in a room; the child ate well, especially the LA galbi. One post says there are plenty of high chairs. Most visitors came with parents or a partner.
- The posts cluster in three weeks of October 2026. Nine disclose a free meal voucher in the same wording. Two (121302, 121308) share the same side-dish list and the same 'three ways to eat it' in the same order. Lines like 'a 100-million-won government grant' and 'world-first three-stage smoking' recur almost word for word; they are the house's claims and we did not count them. A post that discloses nothing is not proof it was unpaid.
