Jeolbyeok

절벽 Jeolbyeok means 'cliff' — several posts say the pub took the name from its old spot below a real cliff across the road, before it moved into this building's basement.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jeolbyeok is a long-running indoor pocha in the basement of the Gwibin wedding-hall building at 130 Pyeongchang-munhwa-ro, Pyeongchang-dong. The signature is flame-grilled marinated pork (15,000 won), and one post that copied the menu lists over forty drinking dishes — stews, pancakes, grills, noodles. Raw cabbage with chili sauce lands on every table, and drinks come out of a fridge you help yourself from. One bill — pork, black-bean noodles, four bottles of soju and beer, two sodas — came to 45,000 won. We read 29 posts from 8 June to 16 October 2026; 19 were about other places that merely share the word 'cliff' (a hillside village, a view café, autumn-foliage lists) and were set aside. Of the 10 left, 8 are from people who went and ate.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seven of the eight who ate here wrote about the free cabbage and chili-vinegar sauce — several called the sauce the real draw, and one said they refill it every time.
  2. Four posts note an indoor smoking room. One non-smoker said the smell drifts out when the door opens, though in four visits they never actually saw anyone use it.
  3. Three posts call the prices reasonable and none call them high: pork 15,000 won, black-bean noodles 6,000, soju 5,000.
  4. Of the five who ate the pork, three describe the marinade as sweet with a light smoky note. On salt, one found the pork pleasantly salty for drinking; another found the potato pancake just right — different dishes, so no single verdict.
2 more
  1. Two posts come from repeat visitors — a neighbourhood regular of about ten years and someone on a fourth visit. The regular insists on the pork but rated the seafood egg soup (15,000 won), tried for the first time, a must; the other says three of their four visits were for that soup alone.
  2. Two posts single out the staff's warmth — one near the 1 a.m. close, another when the owner sent over a free fried egg. Orders are tallied by hand in a notebook at the counter.

Getting inside

In a basement1 of 7 posts
Step at the entrance1 of 7 posts
Toilet inside1 of 7 posts

Only one post describes the level from experience: closer to a half-basement than a full one. The 'basement' in the address we did not count.

One post shows a step down at the entrance. No one wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — not that it's impossible, just that nobody said.

One post places the toilet inside; another couldn't tell whether it was split by gender. On cleanliness, one called it usable in a pinch and another advised looking the other way.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 9 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Four posts mention the old site beneath a real cliff across the road and a history of 40-plus years, but all of it is hearsay or undated, so we did not count it. Every post we read is from the current location.
  • No one described getting here by subway or bus. One group took a taxi; another simply advised public transport while admitting the spot is not easy to reach.
  • Nobody reported waiting. One group arriving around 4:15 on a holiday found it empty but the inner partitioned tables already reserved; another found it fairly busy at 8:30 on a Monday.
  • Hours: five posts give Mon–Sat 4 p.m.–2 a.m., four of them with last orders at 1 a.m., but all of it is copied listing text. Two writers saw the 'closed Sundays' sign themselves. One says it usually closes at 1 a.m., so the closing time is uncertain.
  • The phone number 02-379-8484 appears only in one post's copied listing. Phone booking is likewise only in listing text — nobody wrote that they booked.
