Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

Chowon is a Korean-beef charcoal grill on a side street at Hangang-daero 80-gil 7 in Namyeong-dong, Yongsan, between Sookmyung Women's Univ. and Namyeong stations. People come for thick-cut premium beef tongue, marinated beef (sirloin, chuck flap, top blade) and seasoned intestine and tripe, finishing with garlic noodles, soybean stew or fried rice. Visit posts that give prices list 42,000 won for either tongue cut and 52,000 won for 130 g of chuck flap. We read 28 posts dated September 7 to October 17, 2026; 15 are about this place and 11 describe a visit, two of them the same dinner written up twice by one blogger.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff do the grilling: six posts say so. One says staff cooked the first round and the table took over after that; another says they grill everything, so you can just sit back. Posts describe the intestine split and grilled flat, and the tripe grilled whole, cut, then finished in sauce.
  2. The tongue here comes thick: five posts say so, one calling it the thickest they had seen. Two posts note a thin-sliced version as well, and one suggests starting with it if the crunchy texture of the thick cut feels unfamiliar.
  3. It is expensive: five posts say so, one describing the bill at the door as brutal. Posts that give prices list 42,000 won for each tongue cut and 52,000 won for 130 g of chuck flap, one post each.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 10 posts

There are two floors; three posts mention sitting upstairs. Downstairs has round tables and long bar-style tables; one couple was seated at the long table on both visits and found the hood hanging over the middle blocked the view of the person opposite. One post mentions private rooms for 2 to 10.

No post says whether the entrance is at street level or below it; we only know there is an upstairs.

No post mentions a step at the door, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift to the second floor. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 14 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two posts mention waiting, both with three groups ahead; neither says how many minutes. Two posts booked ahead, one through Naver and one by phone, and one notes that when there is a line the whole party must be present to be seated.
  • Directions from the station appear only as copied info, such as 186 m or about five minutes from exit 6 of Sookmyung Women's Univ. station. No post describes actually arriving by subway or bus.
  • Five posts give the same opening hours, 11:40 to 23:30, four of them saying every day, but all five copy it from an info box. No post mentions a break time, last order or closing day.
  • Prices may have changed. An October 2026 visit gives 42,000 won for the thick tongue, while a list post quoting a 2025 photo shows 38,000 won per 130 g for the tongue, sirloin and top blade. Too few visit posts give prices for us to confirm a rise, and none says what a meal for two came to.
  • Only one post gives a phone number, 010-4976-5949. One post booked through Naver and one by phone.
  • A post about the Dosan-daero branch in Gangnam was set aside as a different location; its prices, valet and room booking do not apply here.
