Chinese

Jamae Sikdang

자매식당 Jamae sikdang means 'Sisters' Diner'; one post gives the Chinese sign as 姐妹快餐店, the sisters' quick-meal shop.

Compiled from 8 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Chinese home-cooking restaurant on the second floor above Tongtong Gimbap inside Namdaemun Market. The signature sanlafen is ₩10,000, and most posts shared dishes such as guobaorou (₩17,000), cumin fried chicken (₩16,000) and yuxiang eggplant (₩15,000) between two or three people. Two posts describe ordering by writing on a sticky note handed out with the menu. All eight visiting posts say it opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays and closes on weekends. We read 10 posts dated June 11 to October 8, 2026, eight of them from actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Tables fill fast at lunch and in the evening. Four posts reported a queue: one waited about 15 minutes; two arrived before lunch, sat straight away and found a long line on the way out; one arrived as the 4:30 break ended and watched it fill and a queue form. One more got a table just after the lunch peak by luck.
  2. Free starters arrive with the order: five posts mention them, three naming roasted peanuts and zha cai, one a cucumber salad among two sides. One post said you can help yourself to more.
  3. Three posts noted the open kitchen. Two flagged the ventilation: one coughed from the cooking fumes, another said the whole room coughs whenever a spicy dish hits the wok, and that the room echoes loudly when busy.
  4. Three posts said prices were reasonable; none called them high. Two noted modest portions, one suggesting you order at least one dish per person.

  1. Five posts said the fried dishes were crisp — guobaorou that barely softens under its sauce, and the cumin chicken and laziji.

Getting inside

Second floor5 of 8 posts
Toilet inside2 of 8 posts

The restaurant is up a flight of stairs on the second floor. Five posts described going up, three using the Tongtong Gimbap building as the landmark. One called the stairs steep and narrow; another warned they are tall enough to take care coming down after drinks.

Posts only describe the second floor; none mention a basement or other levels.

No post mentions entering with a wheelchair or stroller, or an elevator; the only route described is the stairs. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none. No one mentioned a step at the entrance either.

Two posts said the toilet is inside the restaurant, one calling it very clean. Nobody said whether it is split by gender or how big it is.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 10 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat levels are disputed: four posts called dishes spicy, one found the disanxian mild, and one said the sanlafen tingles but won't trouble anyone used to hot tteokbokki. That post said staff ask how spicy you want it.
  • Posts split one to one on size: one found it roomier than expected, another said it isn't large. A third described many tables set slightly close together.
  • Opening hours: all eight visiting posts say weekdays from 7:00 with weekends closed. Seven give a 21:00 close, one 20:00. Four list a 15:00–16:30 break and three a 20:00 last order, two of those copied from the listing. One post was told that day's break was ad hoc, so we can't say the break is fixed.
  • One post said it was easy to find from Hoehyeon Station exit 5; the '159 m from exit 5' figure elsewhere is copied from the listing. No one described coming by bus.
  • Company varies: two posts went with friends, one with a boyfriend, and others with a husband, a work senior or a group of three. On dining alone, one post only noted seeing many solo diners.
  • Prices are known for only a few dishes: two posts give sanlafen at ₩10,000, the rest come from one post each. No post gave a total bill or a per-person cost.
  • Phone numbers differ: two posts give 02-777-8191, one 02-771-9595. The line asking diners to reserve for dinner is copied from the shop's listing; no post actually booked.
