BakeryCafe

onion

어니언 Eonion Onion is simply the English word for the vegetable, written in Hangul; none of the posts explain the name.

Onion Myeongdong is a bakery café that opened on 18 September 2026 on Myeongdong 10-gil, one alley off the main shopping street and across from Hamheung Myeonok. You pick bread on a tray and pay on the ground floor, order drinks separately at the second-floor coffee bar, then sit on the third floor, styled as an old Korean dabang tea room. Breads mostly run KRW 3,500–8,000; an Americano is KRW 5,500, sujeonggwa or omija sparkling KRW 10,000, leaf tea KRW 20,000. We read 30 posts dated 18 September to 9 October 2026, set aside 3 about other places (Onion's Mia branch, a Starbucks notice, a burger joint), and 24 describe an actual visit — all within the first three weeks of opening.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Three posts say they did not wait: 'plenty of seats' around 5 pm on a Friday, 'no queue' after a weekday lunch, 'not crowded'. One found the third floor full at a weekday lunch. A claim that weekends have long waits was not first-hand, so we did not count it. All of this is from the first three weeks.
  2. Prices split between bread and drinks. Four posts call it expensive, three of them about drinks — KRW 20,000 leaf tea, KRW 10,000 sujeonggwa, non-coffee drinks from KRW 10,000; the fourth found the bread pricier than a regular bakery. Two say the bread is reasonably priced, and one balked at a KRW 12,000 brownie while calling prices middling overall.
  3. The bakery is on show: six posts watched dough being shaped and baked behind the ground-floor counters or through glass, and several were handed baguette samples at the door.
  4. Four posts describe friendly staff: a chef handing over the last half of a sold-out baguette, a barista making a latte stronger on request, bakers happy to slice bread. One post was asked whether a takeaway cup was fine because glasses had run out.

  1. One post writes that it is a 5–7 minute walk from exit 8 of Myeongdong station; two more give 3 minutes in info lines. Posts note the alley entrance and small sign are easy to miss, and that early on map apps did not list the shop, so people searched for Myeongdong Hamheung Myeonok across the lane.

Getting inside

Second floor20 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 3 (of 24 posts read)
Lift to the flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 24 posts read)

Each floor has a job. Twenty posts went up to the second floor, which is mainly the coffee counter; several say seats there are few (stool-height tables, 'only a handful'), and point you to the third floor for a longer stay, where the patterned sofas turn out to be covered in cats' faces. One post, by contrast, found the second floor roomy and comfortable.

No one mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — we simply don't know. The entrance and bread are on the ground floor, but seating is on floors two and three. There is a lift, but a 23 September post says it was not yet working and they carried trays up the stairs, and a 6 October post still couldn't tell whether it was in use.

No post describes where the toilets are from experience. One said they could be cleaner. 'Toilets inside, separate for men and women' appears only in one post's info block, so we treat it as copied and did not count it.

No one mentioned: Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Few posts say who they went with: two with a friend or roommate, one with a husband, none with children.
  • Opening hours appear in 12 visit posts: 11 give 10:00–20:00, and six add a 19:30 last order. One post (9 October) gives 08:00–20:00. Two opening-week posts listed closing at 22:00 as 'planned' or 'undecided'; we did not count them. One post says there is no regular closing day.
  • We did not total a typical spend. Posts mention about KRW 16,000 for three breads (two posts), KRW 21,000 of bread for two, and drinks from KRW 5,500 to 20,000. Bread and drinks are paid for separately on different floors.
  • Two posts give the phone number 0507-1346-3264. Whether reservations are taken, nobody says.
  • Every post dates from the first three weeks. During the soft opening only floors one to three were open, floors four to seven were being prepared, and the lift was still under construction, so seating, lift access and hours may change. One promotional post that only describes the floors, with no first-hand detail, was not counted.
