Soup and riceKorean

Hadonggwan

하동관 Gwan means a hall or house; none of the posts explain the Hadong part of the name.

Compiled from 6 blog posts read in fullSources →

A gomtang (beef soup) house on Myeongdong 9-gil. Clear Korean-beef broth is poured over pre-soaked rice with sliced brisket and served in a brass bowl; the regular bowl is 18,000 to 19,000 won, and the 25 bowl with extra meat and tripe is 25,000 won. You pay first, and the soup arrives almost as soon as you sit down. We read 30 posts dated 19 August to 19 October 2026; 7 of them describe eating here. We set aside five posts about the COEX and Yeouido branches, Suhadong, or another restaurant, and did not count 18 list, sales-ranking and product posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The soup comes out the moment you sit. Three posts said so — one was almost startled by how fast it arrived, another compared it to the speed of a jajangmyeon delivery. No post said it was slow.
  2. Of the 4 visit posts that mentioned price, 3 called it expensive: not cheap for a bowl of soup at 18,000 won, steep at 19,000 won for the small, and much pricier than it used to be. The 19,000-won diner compared it with a nearby beef gomtang at 12,000 won.
  3. The broth is lightly seasoned. Three posts said it is not salty; one warned it may taste a little bland at first and loaded it with scallions and pepper. Salt and pepper sit on the table.
  4. Of 4 visit posts that touched on waiting, 2 found no line: one arrived around 1:40 pm on Saturday 17 October, another came for a late weekday lunch and found it quieter than expected. One post described a packed room where seats still freed up quickly. No post recorded a wait time.
2 more
  1. Two posts came with children: one a family trip with a five-year-old, the other a parent who took the kids up to the second floor and packed a bowl to go for the eldest who stayed home.
  2. One post found the meat portion small and was a little disappointed on first sight of the bowl. No post called the portion generous.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 6 posts

Only one post mentioned floors, saying they went up to the second floor. Nobody said whether there is ground-floor seating or a basement.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance, stairs, or wheelchair and stroller access. We also do not know whether the second floor is reached by stairs or a lift.

No post mentioned the toilets, whether inside or separated by gender. That means unknown, not absent.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 18 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-182 posts in one day
2026-10-163 posts in one day
2026-10-143 posts in one day
2026-10-124 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one visit post said they took the subway, getting off at Myeongdong Station and walking. The note about Euljiro 1-ga Station exit 5 comes from copied list posts.
  • Company: family in 2 posts, a spouse in 1, alone in 1. No post went with friends or a group, so we cannot say how it suits a larger party.
  • Opening hours: two visit posts agree on Mon–Sat 7:00–16:00, closed Sunday, but both copied an info block. The early-closing-when-sold-out note also comes from list posts; nobody actually found it closed before 4 pm.
  • The regular bowl's price is split: one visit post paid 18,000 won, the 17 October visit recorded 19,000 won, and copied listings divide the same way. It may have gone up during October, but we cannot pin down when. A list post giving 15,000 won looks outdated and was not used.
  • The phone number 02-776-5656 was copied by four posts. No visit post said whether it takes reservations; one list post noted there is no Naver booking button.
  • One post repeated that the restaurant moved from Suhadong to this address in 2007, as hearsay, so we did not count it. Nothing moved or changed in the two months of posts we read.
  • List and ranking posts (18) outnumber actual visits. Two are the same blogger's template posts with an identical set of 20 hashtags, and one discloses affiliate commission on a packaged-soup product. We did not rely on any of them.
