Chamsut Hanu Cheonguk Mokdong
참숯한우천국 목동점 A butcher-shop grill by Mokdong crossing where you pick your beef from the case — and, unusually, can order freshwater eel alongside it.

Chamsut Hanu Cheonguk Mokdong is a butcher-shop restaurant on the ground floor of a main road by Mokdong crossing. A refrigerated case of cuts greets you at the door; you pick by eye and grill it yourself over real charcoal. Alongside Korean hanu, American beef and pork, it also sells freshwater eel, which is what makes it unusual. Lunch is soups — short rib, ox knee, Naju gomtang. There is a ₩2,000 table charge per head, and in exchange the side dishes come from a self-serve bar you can return to as often as you like. It opened in August 2026, and every post we read was written in the month that followed.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Price is nearly the whole story here. Every post that talks about money says it is cheap — "beef without the markup," "unbelievably cheap, let's go," "absurd value at today's prices." Not one calls it expensive. The half-and-half hanu plate, the most ordered dish, is ₩49,000 for 500g; fresh short rib is ₩45,000 for the first plate and ₩33,000 for each one after. One writer put the bill for two — meat, brisket stew and rice — at around ₩60,000, half of what the same meal cost them at the Majang-dong meat market. Read this alongside the note on sponsorship below.
- You fetch your own side dishes from a self-serve bar, and almost every visitor mentions it. They all put it the same way — not having to ask. "Staff will bring more if you call them, but you feel awkward asking for a lot," writes one. On offer: spring-onion and white kimchi, bean sprouts, chives, pickled radish, cabbage and corn salads, lettuce, onion, garlic. Several single out the two kimchis. One writer notes that a few items are not on the bar and still have to be asked for.
- This is a place people book for a work dinner or a family meal. Several posts note the room is large and tables can be pushed together; one describes it as laid out in fours, joined up as needed, with parties doing exactly that. Among the visitors: six friends coming off a band rehearsal for a daytime drink, a whole family turning out, someone bringing their parents. On how busy it gets — nearly full on a weekday evening, full at eight, customers already waiting before Friday opening. One post mentions a bench by the door for waiting.
- Three posts talk about the staff and they agree — someone changed the grill plate before being asked, someone topped up the sides without being called, the owner sent over free tripe. One writer notes there seem to be plenty of them for the size of the room, and the tables show it. One dissenting line: a visitor in mid-August, days after opening, says the place was "a bit all over the place, but go anyway."
- What people say about the meat converges on thick and juicy. Five posts describe the charcoal searing the outside fast and leaving the middle wet. Several ate the first piece with salt alone; one says the side dishes were barely needed. Two note there is no off smell. Thickness depends on the cut — one post has the hanu top blade sliced thin and cooking in seconds, the short rib thick, in the same breath. Two warn that beef dries if you leave it on, so grill only what you're about to eat.
- Two writers looked at the toilet. One says they always check whether a restaurant has one and found it inside and well kept; the other ends their post with how very clean it was. Whether it is split between men and women, and whether there is a step, nobody says.

What people order
The most ordered dish is Hanu Banban (한우반반) — 7 of 14 posts.

Parking
4 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

If you drive, there are two spaces. Four posts give the same figure — about two, in front of the shop — and three of them add that it is tight, that it fills, that you should ring ahead. One points to the public car parks nearby. Nobody, though, describes actually parking: one writer says they drove, and never says where the car ended up.

Getting there

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Not one post mentions a step, a ramp, or getting a wheelchair or a pushchair through the door. One notes it is at street level on a main road; beyond that, nobody looked. That is neither a yes nor a no — it is a gap in what we counted.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 16 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- All fourteen posts we read were written between 18 August and 18 September 2026 — the month the place opened. Three of them say outright that they were given something: two carry a disclosure line, one leads with a sponsorship tag. The other eleven say nothing, but they are still a single month of opening-week writing. Whether the same things get said a year from now, we do not know yet.
- Two posts were left out of the count. One is built from a self-answered Q&A and a three-line summary, and claims the place has its own roomy car park — flatly against the four posts that all say two tight spaces, with opening hours and menu names that match nobody else's. The other carries an advert for an unrelated homeware shop in the middle of the text and signs off recommending the restaurant on that shop's behalf; it never says what was ordered, or when.
- Liver and tripe come free on Wednesdays and Fridays — the days the cow arrives, two posts explain. Six posts pass the fact along; four actually got any. It follows that other days you will not, so check before planning around it.
- The phone number on file does not match the posts. Our record has 02-2653-9285; three posts all give 0507-1433-2590, a forwarding number. The licence on file dates from 2002 while this restaurant opened in August 2026, so the recorded number may belong to whoever was here before. We have left it alone for a person to check.
- Nobody reports waiting. There are accounts of the room being nearly full on a weekday evening and full at eight, but in fourteen posts no one describes queueing — one had booked, and the writer who noticed the bench by the door never sat on it. That is not "no wait": it is a gap in what we counted. Two posts advise booking if you are going at a busy hour.
