Soup and riceKorean

Joseobang Sundaeguk

조서방순대국 Seobang is an old word for a husband, so Jo-seobang reads as 'Mr. Jo'; sundaeguk is Korean pork-and-blood-sausage soup.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Joseobang Sundaeguk is a sausage-soup shop at 1F, 73 Gingorang-ro in Junggok-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. On 7 September 2026 it moved here from 88 Gingorang-ro across the road. Sundaeguk is 10,000 won and the large version 11,000; several posts say most diners order a set that adds pork-skin salad (15,000 for one, 25,000 for two). The soup arrives boiling in an earthenware bowl; people taste it plain, then work in the perilla powder and the dry chili seasoning left on each table. We read 30 posts dated 14 April to 27 October 2026; 22 describe an actual meal (15 after the move, 7 before).

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Twelve post-move posts mention the relocation. The old shop is remembered as cramped and old-fashioned; at the new one posts describe many two- and four-person tables, a bar counter, single seats and window tables. We did not carry the old shop's seating notes (such as all four-person tables) over to the new address.
  2. Seven posts say the new shop is roomier. Two disagree — one calls it cosy, another says the tables are packed tight for the space — and one thinks it is about the same size as before. One regular adds that more tables made the aisles awkward; the serving cart could not reach the inner tables.
  3. Nine posts call the shop clean. One regular wrote that her father avoided the old shop for looking untidy, and now happily comes along to the new one.
  4. Four posts queued and one walked straight in. One arrived around 11:50 on a weekday, had one party ahead and waited about ten minutes, noting three or four parties by 12:10; there is no waiting list, you just line up outside. Another deliberately came just before 1 p.m. to dodge the 11:50–12:40 rush. A visit after 8 p.m. had no wait, and at the old shop a July weekday at 7 p.m. meant about three minutes.

  1. Seven posts say you can help yourself to more side dishes — radish and cabbage kimchi, onion, chili, ssamjang and salted shrimp. Since the move refills come from a self-service bar; before, staff brought them. Many posts single out the radish kimchi.
  2. Nine posts call the portions generous — one says the amount of meat is enormous, another that it fills up a grown man. Only one found the regular bowl just adequate and wished it had ordered the large. Several posts count three pieces of sausage in a regular bowl.
  3. Five posts say there is no porky smell in the soup or meat. One post caught a faint smell on the pork-skin salad in the set and suggested sensitive eaters order the soup alone.
  4. Four posts mention autographs on the wall, apparently brought over from the old shop. One noted they were politicians' signatures and was unimpressed.
  5. Three posts went with family, two with friends, one alone, and one with two coworkers by car.

The most ordered dish is sundaeguk (순대국) — 21 of 21 posts.

Parking

1 posts say you can park; 3 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Parking at the new address is disputed: three posts say there is none, one says there is a single spot out front, and one saw room for one car but wasn't sure it is usable. Posts point to on-street public parking or paid lots nearby.

Getting inside

No post says what floor the new shop is on or whether there are steps; only the address says 1F. Nobody wrote about it.

No post mentions a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That means nobody wrote about it, not that access is fine or impossible.

No post says whether the toilet is inside the shop or separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two posts found the staff friendly; one was put off by a curt question when her father nudged a table and said she won't be back for a while. A visit on the second day after the move notes staff forgot water and a meat-only request in the rush.
  • Only one post describes the walk: about ten minutes from exit 2 of Junggok station, fifteen from Gunja, one from the Yongma intersection. Other mentions of Junggok exit 2 are copied listing info.
  • Opening hours in all 11 post-move posts are copied from listings. All 11 give 10:00–22:00, closed Sundays; eight add the last Saturday of each month. Of the eight that list a 15:30–16:30 break, five say Saturdays have none. Last order is 21:30 in four posts and 21:00 in one. Closing early when ingredients run out is the shop's own claim.
  • Three posts call the prices reasonable. Prices were the same in July 2026 at the old shop and October at the new one, except the one-person set: 13,000 won with a mini pork-skin salad in July, 15,000 won from September. A meal runs 10,000 won for soup alone, or 15,000 with the set.
  • Six posts give the phone number 0507-1422-9287; one list post gives 02 457 9282. No post says anything about taking reservations.
  • We did not count six posts: two list posts from one blog that reuse the same 'as introduced in the original' template with the old address and a 10:30 opening, plus an AI-generated guide, a regional list, a promotional piece and a visit post with no concrete details.
