우즈 웨일 Ujeu Weil Ooze Whale is an English coinage — to 'ooze' is to seep out slowly — and the whale is the house logo, drawn on the chalkboard at the door.

A wine bar in the basement of 88 Jong-ro, on the main road between Jonggak and Jongno 3-ga stations. It opens at 6 p.m., and people come for pasta (18,000–19,000 won) or octopus steak (38,000 won) with a bottle of wine (68,000–81,000 won). Posts from June 2026 onward also show a spring-to-autumn Portuguese menu (bacalhau à brás 23,000 won, Algarve chicken platter 29,000 won); the November 2025 menu had no Portuguese dishes. What sets it apart
- Fifteen posts call the staff friendly, mostly because of the owner's wine service. He suggests a bottle to match the food, tells the story behind the label, pours a taste and then the first glass. A December 2025 post got an extra pasta on the house.
- Eleven posts came as a couple, seven with friends and three in larger groups, such as a party of six. Some two-seat tables face a wall projection of the river at night or fireworks. One post says the octopus arrived arranged in a heart, presented as the boyfriend's feelings for her.
- You may bring a cake. Two posts, from December 2025 and August 2026, brought one and say staff provided plates once they left a receipt review. Counting a third post that got an egg tart for a review, three posts mention the review perk.
- Two posts from November and December 2025 were served tea in a teacup on arrival, one naming it omija tea. Two posts from August and September 2026 got a small snack, such as banana chips, with the wine.

You go down a flight of stairs to get in. Eighteen posts describe descending to the basement room, and none mention a ground floor. One December 2025 post found the entry stairs steeper than expected but says a mat on the steps kept them from being slippery; another warns that the entrance is narrow and easy to miss.
No post mentions arriving by wheelchair or stroller, an elevator, or a step at the door. That means nobody wrote about it, not that none exists. Eighteen posts do describe going down stairs.
Three posts say the restroom is inside the bar and clean, and a November 2025 post calls it roomy. A men's/women's split appears only in a copied info block, so we did not count it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 25 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- No post describes waiting in a line. An August 2026 post walked in on a Saturday without a booking and got the last free table, and a December 2025 post says to book around year-end. Four posts say they booked. One arrived early and waited nearby for the 6 p.m. opening.
- Three posts describe walking there. One from November 2025 says follow the main road from Jonggak exit 12 and it appears on the right; two from 2026 put it about three minutes from Jonggak exit 4. Others place it next to the Aladin used bookstore and a Daiso.
- One post found the food too salty: in August 2026 it said the octopus steak was heavily seasoned to begin with and the rosé pasta salty too. Another found the bacalhau salty but clean-tasting.
- One post, from August 2026, called it on the pricey side. Another reports six people paying 308,000 won for one platter and four bottles. Dish prices did not change between the November 2025 menu and September 2026 posts (octopus steak 38,000 won, ragù 19,000 won).
- Every post that lists hours gives Sunday to Thursday as 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday varies: nine posts from August 2026 on say it opens at 5 p.m., while two from late 2025 and three from September 2026 say 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, closing at 2 a.m. No post mentions a closing day. Bookings go through Naver or CatchTable, and more than ten posts give the phone number 0507-1328-5151.
- The no-kids rule appears only in copied info blocks. No post describes coming with children.
- About ten posts from late August to September 2026 share the same headline about a Jongno night-market date course. They tell the chef's Portuguese wife story and the 'wine here first, then the street stalls' route in the same order, and one of those bloggers wrote in her own diary that it was a sponsored visit. The chef's story and the claim that Olivia Rodrigo visited are things the bar told visitors, so we do not count them as evidence.
