PARU
파루 닭한마리 Paru Dakhanmari Dakhanmari means 'one whole chicken', the Seoul dish of a whole bird simmered in a pot at the table; no post explains the name Paru.

Paru Dakhanmari is a hanok restaurant down an alley near exit 4 of Gyeongbokgung Station (137-11 Sajik-ro). Its dish is yaktang dakhanmari, 38,000 won for two: a whole pre-cooked chicken over which staff pour bone broth from an herbal-tea kettle — eleven posts describe the pouring and cutting at the table. A plate of mixed mushrooms goes in later, shabu-shabu style, and several posts recommend the 4,000-won garlic pot rice with broth poured in to make scorched-rice soup. At lunch there is a one-person chicken tray for 21,000 won. Sixteen posts mention the free cup of strawberry ice cream on the way out. We read 30 posts dated 29 August to 6 October 2026; 28 describe actual visits (one was about somewhere else and one was a single line in a hiking list).

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Three posts say you must order either the yaktang chicken or the lunch tray as your main. One couple only learned at the table that the grilled chicken is a side-only dish and wished it had been signposted; two posts add that noodles are not included in the pot and have to be ordered separately.
- Eight posts say you order by scanning a QR code at the table. One says there was no separate printed menu, and two worry that older diners may find QR ordering hard. You pay on the way out.
- Six posts note that tea, not plain water, is served at the table; one was told by the manager it is hawthorn tea, good for digestion, also sold in tea bags.
- Nine posts waited or saw a queue; one, an office dinner, had no wait. Recorded waits: 'about 10 to 20 minutes', and 15 minutes behind four groups just after 4 p.m. One post counted 30 groups on the CatchTable waitlist; another arrived at 4:30 p.m. to a quiet room and left at 5:30 to a line; another was the first table at 5 p.m. Eight posts booked ahead through CatchTable or Naver.
4 more
- Five posts saw many foreign diners; one estimated more than half were Chinese and Thai, and another watched the neighbouring foreign table copy their order.
- Ten posts walked from Gyeongbokgung Station, three to five minutes from exit 4. The catch, repeated often, is finding the alley: posts say to follow the blue signs or standing boards, one writer circled for a long time and begged for a sign further out, and another found the short alley dark and full of smokers at night.
- Five posts found the portions generous — too full for noodles after the chicken and mushrooms. One disagreed: half a chicken per person left them hungry, poor value for the price.
- One family with a 17-month-old found a very good high chair and were given a suction bowl for the baby; another family said their children liked the grilled chicken best.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station

Getting inside
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read) |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 1 of 28 posts |
Only one post describes the floor: a single-storey hanok-style building at the turn of the alley. Nobody mentions a basement or upstairs seating.
No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in — not that there isn't access, just that nobody wrote about it. Posts only say the alley is narrow.
One post says the toilet is inside the restaurant; nobody says whether it is split by gender.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- On price the posts split two against two: one was taken aback by how expensive it was and another found the half plate of grilled chicken pricey, while two called it good value. The half plate of grilled chicken is 15,000 won in three posts and 17,000 won in one. For two people, the yaktang chicken plus two pot rices comes to 46,000 won.
- All opening hours we have were copied from info blocks: seven posts give daily 11:00–21:30 (last order 21:00), two give 11:00–21:00, and two say no regular closing day. No block lists a break, but one post mentions arriving 'just before break time', so we don't know whether there is one. Three posts list the phone number, 0507-1357-6716.
- Two posts appear to be the same person's 6 September date (sandwiches by Cheonggyecheon, Paru, then the palace night opening) written up on two blogs; we counted both, so that one visit appears twice under booking, QR ordering and the must-order rule. Several posts read like promotions without disclosing sponsorship, and only two say they paid for themselves.
