Seoul Samgyetang

서울삼계탕 Samgyetang is chicken soup simmered with ginseng and stuffed with glutinous rice, so the name simply means Seoul ginseng chicken soup.

Compiled from 3 blog posts read in fullSources →

A samgyetang restaurant on the second floor of a building on Mareunnae-ro, near Euljiro 3-ga Station. Ginseng chicken soup is 20,000 won, the abalone version 27,000 won, and there are drinking dishes such as braised chicken and rotisserie chicken. The soup comes with radish kimchi, young-radish kimchi, seasoned gizzards and a glass of ginseng liquor. We read three posts, from 19 to 31 August 2026; all three visited and ate the samgyetang, all around the summer boknal days.

Rows without a count: 2 of 3 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. All three posts said the soup needed no added salt; even the rice inside the bird came seasoned. Two also noted that the breast meat was tender rather than dry.
  2. All three posts called the room spacious. One counted about 16 tables on the second floor, with wide tabletops; another sat six people side by side. Two mention a third-floor room for groups; the 30-40 seat figure was hearsay.
  3. One post waited: on the eve of the last boknal day the line ran out the door at lunch and they waited about 20 minutes, though the food then came quickly. Another post repeated that lunch lines reach the stairs, but it went at an off-peak hour. Nobody wrote about waits outside the boknal season.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 3 posts
Toilet inside1 of 3 posts

Only one post described the floors from experience (dining on the second floor, groups on the third). Nobody mentioned a basement either way.

One post says the restaurant is on the second floor, but nobody said whether there is a lift, only stairs, or a step at the door. We do not know.

One post said the toilet is inside, next to the counter on the second floor. Nobody said whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Company varies: one post went with family, one with six colleagues, one did not say. Nobody wrote about eating here alone.
  • All three posts give the same price (20,000 won for samgyetang), and one found it a little steep for an office lunch. These are August 2026 prices; we do not know of later changes.
  • All three posts list hours of 09:30-23:50; two say Saturdays open at 10:30 and two give last orders at 23:20. These were copied listing details, and nobody mentioned a closing day.
  • Two posts give the phone number (02-2263-1743), but nobody said whether the restaurant takes reservations.
  • Two posts put it about three minutes' walk from exit 11 of Euljiro 3-ga Station, one with directions toward the Nine Tree hotel. Nobody wrote about buses.
