평강삼계탕 Pyeonggang means peace and good health, and samgyetang is chicken soup with ginseng and glutinous rice.

Pyeonggang Samgyetang fills a two-storey building on Jangchungdan-ro 185 in Jung-gu, on the main road between Dongguk University and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park stations. The signature bowl is samgyetang cooked with sanghwang mushroom, which turns the broth and skin yellow; it arrives boiling, and a card on the table tells you to split the bird and stir the rice into the broth. A bowl is 19,000 won in posts from 12 May 2026 on, 18,000 won before that. There is also a more herbal version at 22,000 won, a seafood-topped pot at 38,000 won, seafood pancake and porridge. We read 30 posts dated 22 January to 2 October 2026; 25 of them record an actual meal there.

What sets it apart
- Expect a wait at lunch and on the summer boknal days. Four posts waited: ten minutes on a boknal weekend when they had braced for thirty, none on arrival on a weekday early evening but a queue by the time they left, an hour on boknal the year before, and three parties sitting on the waiting chairs at lunch. One post walked straight in at 1:30 pm on a Saturday.
- Easy by subway: six posts walked from, or noted how close it is to, Exit 2 of Dongguk University Station — four to five minutes, about 200 metres.
- Nine posts said the portions are big: one left most of the rice because the chicken alone filled them, one suggested two people share a single seafood pot, and one found even the small seafood pancake larger than expected.
- Ten posts were repeat visits, including one from Gangnam on their sixth trip across the river and one that had been three times before boknal even started.

No one mentioned a step at the entrance, wheelchair or pram access, or a lift to the second floor — not that there isn't one, but we don't know. Five posts ate on the ground floor and some were seated upstairs, without saying how they got there.
One post said the toilet was clean; nobody said whether it is inside the restaurant or separated by gender.

What we do not know
- The price has gone up. A 10 May post paid 18,000 won a bowl, as did a 24 June list post, while every post from 12 May on says 19,000 won. Three posts found it pricey; one called it about normal.
- Posts disagree on reservations: one says you can book by phone, another says you can't. Two posts suggest calling ahead (0507-1370-7826), and one says phoning ahead gets the slow seafood pot ready on arrival.
- Thirteen posts list the hours and they agree: 10:30 to midnight, last order 23:20, no afternoon break. Two say it closes only for Chuseok. Most of this is copied from the Naver listing.
- Four posts saw the wall of celebrity autographs themselves. Claims that no tap water is used, that birds are prepared every dawn, or that celebrities are regulars are the restaurant's own advertising, repeated by bloggers; we did not count them.
- One blogger posted the same review on two platforms; we counted it once. A hotel's promotional list, a one-line tip at the end of a concert review and a diary that only tagged the place were not counted as visits, and one post about a Busan restaurant was set aside.
