Yasanghae
야상해 Ya-sanghae reads as 'night Shanghai' (夜上海) — one post explains the name as Shanghai by night, and the kitchen serves Shanghai-style dumplings and dishes.

A small Chinese restaurant in an alley a short walk from exit 1 of Itaewon station, serving steamed dumplings (xiaolongbao, shrimp, chive) alongside fish-fragrant eggplant, egg-and-shrimp fried rice and Shanghai-style braised pork. Posts give dumplings at 7,000–9,000 won and dishes at 12,000–19,000 won; most pairs shared three or four plates. The restaurant has since taken over the shop next door, so there are two entrances and two rooms that look quite different. The fried rice, with its crunchy scorched grains, is the dish posts praise most often. We read 30 posts dated 6 April to 15 October 2026; 27 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait. Of 27 visit posts, 20 describe a queue. The posts that gave a time list 10, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 minutes and an hour — the 50 minutes came from arriving at 11:40, twenty minutes before Saturday opening, and the hour and the 40 minutes were weekend evenings. Several people who arrived right at noon opening or at 5 pm after the break got straight in but saw a line forming as they left. Two posts say the owner took orders while they were still in line. Posts disagree on how the line works: one says there is no app and no waiting list, so you simply stand outside; another says you register and then wait out front.
- The dumplings are full of broth. Eleven posts mention the juice or soup inside, mostly about the xiaolongbao, usually with a warning that the first bite is scalding. One post noted the shrimp dumplings were not especially juicy.
- Four posts describe the fried eggplant as crisp outside, often adding that the coating is very thin — one compared it to glass, another said there is barely any batter at all.
- Seating is tight. Five posts say the room is cramped or the tables are close together; none call it roomy. Because it is two shops joined together, one visitor first mistook the left-hand room for a different restaurant.

- Most posts find it good value: five call it cheap or good value, one says it is on the pricey side, and one says both.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
6 posts say it is walkable from the station.
Getting inside
We don't know which floor it is on. The address says ground floor, but no post describes the floor from experience — that is not a no, just that nobody wrote it.
No post mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post notes the alleys near exit 1 slope uphill, though this one is not far up.
We don't know about the toilet. One post's info block says it is outside the restaurant and shared, but that line reads as copied information, and no one describes actually using it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 25 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The restaurant expanded rather than moved. A post from someone who has been coming for ten years says the shop is bigger than it used to be, so waits are shorter, and that prices have crept up since five years ago. No one says when the expansion happened or what the old prices were; every post we read, from April 2026 on, describes the two-room shop.
- A few prices disagree by one post each: shrimp dumplings are 9,000 won in six posts but 8,000 in one from May 2026, and the eggplant is 13,000 in nine posts but 14,000 in one from April 2026. Only one post totals a meal: four dishes for two came to 53,000 won.
- Opening hours appear only in copied info blocks. Fifteen posts list them: 12:00–21:40 in thirteen, a 15:00–17:00 break in twelve, last order at 21:00 in nine, closed Mondays in fourteen. One post alone gives an 11:00 opening and one says Tuesday to Saturday. One person found it shut on a Sunday morning; we cannot tell whether that was before opening or a day off.
- Six posts say it is easy by public transport — five describe a short walk from Itaewon station, and one took the 421 bus from Seoul Station to Itaewon. More precise distances (106 m, 195 m) come only from copied directions.
- Eight posts give the phone number 0507-1442-8666; one gives 02-749-8666. The only word on reservations is a copied line saying they are not taken; no one describes trying to book.
