Uyeonin is a cocktail bar in the basement of 136-1 Itaewon-ro. It calls itself a honsul bar — a bar for drinking alone — and it works that way: the owner seats you and starts the conversation, and the seating is one continuous table bent into a U so that strangers face each other. You order by the QR code at your place and settle the whole tab on the way out. It opens in the evening and closes at six in the morning, which is why several writers use it as somewhere to sit out the gap between the last train and the first. Three house cocktails are named for the three syllables of the bar — Woo, Yeon, In — and run from mild to strong, with a separate row of drinks with no alcohol in them. A free drumstick-shaped snack arrives with the seat, and food brought in from outside costs nothing, though two posts put the corkage on outside liquor at ₩30,000. A photo machine on the stairs down is free to use, and notebooks of things previous customers wrote circulate around the room. The bar opened in 2026, so everything we read covers only five months (May to September 2026).

What sets it apart
- Being a basement, you cannot see inside before you commit. One writer notes that the entrance is so uniformly black that the door has the word “door” written on it, and several describe losing their nerve on the way down the stairs. The bar knows this: a chalkboard at the door reads, roughly, “A bar for drinking alone is nothing much! Don't be scared, come in.” Eight posts quote that line and four say it is what got them through the door. Two state outright that this was their first bar of the kind.
- What these posts record most is not the drinks but what the owner does. He decides where you sit — two writers note that people who came alone were placed beside other people who came alone, while a pair was given a corner to themselves. If you are sitting there stiffly he comes over and starts a topic, and he joins the games. One writer, drinking nothing alcoholic that night, records that he asked first whether to leave the liqueur out of her ice cream. Some write down what they ended up talking about with the stranger next to them: one reproduces a two-hour argument about who should hold the purse strings in a marriage.
- At the bottom of the stairs, before the door, stands a photo machine that costs nothing to use. One writer says there is no limit on shots; another that the prints come out on plastic rather than paper and survived the trip home. People stick them to the wall, and one post notes the wall was already covered despite how recently the place opened. More posts mention the machine than mention any one of the drinks.
- Food from outside comes in free. One post — a declared sponsorship — records the table next door arriving with McDonald's fries and sharing them around. Liquor is another matter: two posts put the corkage on outside drink at ₩30,000. The bar's own food is a short list of fruit and desserts, and one writer found it sold out.
- The lavatories are not inside the bar but out on the landing at the foot of the stairs. Three posts place them there; three note they are separate for men and women and clean, and one liked the lighting. Nobody remarks on having to leave the room to use them.

Not one post mentions a step, a ramp, a lift, or a wheelchair. Ten note that you go down a flight of stairs to a basement, but nobody counted the steps, looked for a handrail, or said whether there is a lip at the door. This does not mean the place cannot be entered — it means we do not know. The lavatories are on the same landing, so at least there is no second flight.

What we do not know
- Not one post records queueing. All thirteen were seated on arrival — three arrived at opening to a nearly empty room, and one was led to the seat beside guests already there. But the hours we can see are skewed. One writer says the room filled up at ten, and another was told by the owner that the late hours are the peak; nobody records whether there is a seat to be had at two or three in the morning. Nor does anyone say whether the bar takes bookings.
- Two posts declare a sponsorship. One tags it at the bottom; the other carries the review agency's disclosure banner as an image at the very top, though the word never appears in the text — the banner is the disclosure. Nobody declares the opposite, that they paid their own way, and the remaining eleven say nothing either way. Two more record getting something free: an ice cream sent over mid-evening, and a welcome shot of vodka for arriving before nine. A third notes that the bar was running an offer of a free cocktail for writing a review — what that did to the rest of these posts we cannot say.
- The opening time appears to have changed. Every post from late May through 23 August gives the same hours — 18:00 to 06:00, daily. Only the posts of 25 August and 9 September say 20:00 Monday to Thursday and 19:00 Friday to Sunday. Since the two later writers agree with each other, this reads as a change rather than a disagreement, but we did not ask the bar. All nine agree on the closing time of six in the morning. No post mentions a closing day, a break, or a last order.
- Whether it is quiet depends entirely on when you go. The writers who found it calm went on a weeknight, or right at opening, or on a holiday when the street outside was empty. Another says the room filled up at ten; another counted the crowd as ninety-five per cent women that night; a third asked the owner and was told the late hours are the peak, with people coming in from the clubs to wait for the first train. For a bar open until six, we have no basis for saying that ten o'clock on a Tuesday and three in the morning on a Saturday are the same room.
- Whether there are board games is contested. Two writers played Halli Galli and Jenga, and a third found a range of board and card games — but the earliest post, from 26 May, says there were none (and adds that the absence left more room for talking). They may have been brought in later; we have not checked. In place of games, six posts describe reading the notebooks customers leave behind — one calls it a guest book, another “the death note for my ex.”
