CafeBar

Seoul Rudenseu

서울루덴스 Ludens is taken from Homo Ludens, 'man the player' — one post says the name comes from that phrase.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

Seoul Ludens is a café-bar on the second floor of a building at 69 Hoenamu-ro, up the hill from Gyeongnidan-gil, facing N Seoul Tower. By day people have a 7,000-won americano and 9,000-won cheesecake; by night cocktails (Malibu orange, 14,000 won) and house wine (15,000 won) with fries, nachos or a cheese plate. You order at the counter only, and time limits apply by time of day. We read 30 posts from November 2024 to October 2026; 17 record an actual visit, and 4 turned out to be about other places.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There are time limits, and seven posts describe them: from 1 to 5 pm a drinks-only order buys an hour and a food order two; from 5 pm everyone must order a drink plus food, for two hours, extendable by ordering more. Two posts also list per-party food minimums. One writer was asked to confirm they understood the one-hour rule; another ordered cheesecake just to stay past an hour. Three posts note no calling staff to the table, no clapping or noise, and no outside food.
  2. Terrace and window seats are handed out in order of arrival. Five posts sat on the terrace; several were first seated inside and moved by staff as seats freed up, one about ten minutes after ordering. Guests may not move themselves. One writer got bitten by mosquitoes on a mild evening outdoors.
  3. Evenings mean a wait; afternoons are quiet. Three posts waited: 30 minutes on a weekday evening, nearly an hour on a Saturday around 8-9 pm, and a Tuesday where people were queuing outside by 9 pm. Four posts walked straight in — Saturday at 4 pm, a weekday just after 5 pm, midday, and an early afternoon. Three posts mention waiting chairs just inside. Separately, one writer who never went in saw a line down to the ground-floor door at sunset in early September; we did not count it.
  4. Dates are the most common case (four posts, with a husband, boyfriend or fiancé), then family (three), friends (two) and one solo visit. One post seated a family of seven at a large table.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 17 posts

Two posts say there is no parking of its own. One writer who drove used the public lot below; another names the Itaewon 2-dong public lot, a 3-5 minute walk, at 3,000 won an hour, with no validation.

Getting inside

Second floor6 of 17 posts

It is on the second floor: six posts say they went up to it, three by stairs. The sign is small; two posts suggest looking for the building opposite 60 Gye Chicken with a jewellery shop on the ground floor. One post mentions a basement space as well, but no one else does.

We don't know about wheelchair or stroller access. Three posts climbed stairs to the second floor; no one mentioned a lift or a step at the door — not that there is none, just that no one wrote about it.

The only mention of a toilet is one writer waiting on chairs by the toilet near the entrance. Whether it is inside the premises or split by gender, no one said.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Five posts call it expensive — one calls the café prices otherworldly at 7,000 won for an americano and 11,000 for an ade. One post counts it as good value because wine bottles start at 48,000 won; another says not cheap but worth it. No one gave a per-person total.
  • The hill is steep. Two posts took a bus to the Grand Hyatt stop and walked; one who walked up from Itaewon station strongly advised a taxi. No visiting post timed the walk from a subway station.
  • We don't know whether children are allowed. One post saw a family with a child apparently turned away, but no one confirmed a no-kids policy.
  • We don't know whether it takes reservations; one writer thought not, and no one booked. Seven posts give the phone number 02-795-4151.
  • All ten visiting posts list the hours as 1 pm to 2 am daily, but each copied it from a listing. Two list posts that never visited give noon as the opening time. No one mentioned closing days or last orders.
  • Eight posts are lists by people who never went. Four of them follow the same pattern — they claim personal visits but contain nothing experienced — and one mentions an Euljiro branch we found no basis for.
