Jeju Boreum's Itaewon branch is a cocktail bar on the ground floor of a white house, a few turns down the lanes behind exit 4 at Itaewon. Eight in the evening until four in the morning. It is built so that people who came alone end up talking to each other: the seating is one long U-shaped counter, every place has question cards and a snapping-crocodile game on it, and the bartender introduces people. There is a separate corner of sofas and bean bags for when that is too much. There is no paper menu — a QR code at your seat opens the bar's Instagram and you order from it by speaking to the bartender. There is almost nothing to eat, and in exchange you may bring food in or have it delivered. The posts we read run from March to September 2026.

What sets it apart

The apparatus for making strangers talk is the design of the place, and twenty posts are about it. On every place setting: a snapping crocodile, question cards, balance-game cards, image-game cards, and a visitors' book people keep adding to. One writer played cards and won; one played the image game for over an hour; one drank tequila as a forfeit; one spent the evening with other customers repainting the bar's own too-faint sign. The bartender runs it — several describe being introduced to the person next to them on the strength of something they had in common, and one writer who planned on two hours stayed six. Two are careful to add that none of it is compulsory: you can sit quietly and drink, and that is fine too.
Ten of the writers came alone, which is a high proportion for anywhere we have read. What they say is strikingly similar: they wanted a drink by themselves, but not the kind of quiet bar where you end up looking at your phone. Thirteen posts reach for the same phrase — the feeling of a guesthouse on holiday, where people who met an hour ago are talking over a beer. Six came in twos and say they got drawn in as well. Four give the same practical advice: sit at the counter if you are alone, take the sofas at the back if you would rather not be.
There is almost nothing to eat. Nachos and a cheesecake are the only things anyone names, and one writer puts it plainly: the bar is about the drinks, so you bring your own food. Seven posts say you may carry food in or order delivery to your seat, and it happens — one evening a customer had pizza sent round for the table, another turned into a shared bag of crisps, another writer picked up dinner nearby on the way. If you are worried about drinking on an empty stomach, bring something or order in. There is a free bowl on every table, though what is in it changes: puffed rice in five posts, popcorn in three, corn nuts, pretzels or crisps in the rest.
Two kinds of seat. In the middle a long counter bent into a U, so that you face the people opposite; off to one side, sofas and bean bags. You can lie down on the bean bags, and two writers did when the drink caught up with them — one of them woke up under a blanket a stranger had put over her. One post traces the sofas to a cigar bar nearby, which is why the room carries a faint cigar smell; another says they burn incense. One writer counts about thirty seats, another puts five on the sofa.
Twenty posts talk about the staff and all twenty are positive — but not in the usual way. What they praise is being greeted before they had time to feel awkward, being introduced to the person on the next stool, and being asked what they like and how strong they want it, then having it made. Three say a drink not on the list will be built if the ingredients are there; three asked for something stronger or weaker and got it. Four simply enjoyed watching it made in front of them. One was told the owner worked bars for years before opening this one.

But four of the nine who mention the walk say it is hard to find — the lanes turn several times into what is really a residential block, invisible from the main strip. Four say bring a map; two circled the building without finding the door. What to look for is a painted moon at the mouth of the lane and a white house. One writer complained the sign was too faint to see; another spent that evening helping repaint it.
The toilet is inside, and three people wrote about what is in it. All three found it clean — one says there was not a hair anywhere — and all three separately noticed the same things at the basin: sachets of mouthwash, hair ties, and a good hand soap. In a bar that runs to four in the morning, they read it as someone having thought about what you actually want at two. Whether there are separate men's and women's, no post says.

**Nobody wrote down the price.** One writer asked for it stronger and got it; three posts say the bar will adjust the strength of anything.

Nobody wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across all twenty-four posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, threshold and step never appear. What we can say is that it is on the ground floor of a house-like building, and that the seating is high bar stools and low sofas. Whether there is a step at the door, we do not know.

What we do not know

This bar is easy to confuse with its siblings. Five of the thirty posts we collected turned out to be about somewhere else. There are three bars from the same family in Itaewon alone — this one, and two others a few streets away, all named "Jeju something, Seoul Itaewon branch", with the same interior, the same games and the same free snacks. On top of that a well-known tteokbokki-and-drinks place shares this building, and one of its posts came through too (one writer here says the bar is upstairs from it). Prices, hours and phone numbers differ between the three, so go by the street address in your map app — one sibling closes at three on weeknights, this one runs to four every night. Two of the posts about this bar even end their walking directions at a different sibling's door, copied wholesale from its listing.
Two posts declare that the visit was arranged: one carries a review-platform banner at the foot, the other says outright that this time it was a comped visit and next time she will pay. Nobody states they paid their own way; the other twenty-two say nothing. Nine of them carry a byte-identical block of hashtags, which points to one marketing push. We kept them all the same, because what separates a real visit from a written-to-order one is the record of drinking — and those nine drank different things, met different people and played different games, with no shared sentences. We did remove one. It was generated from the bar's map listing: the same paragraphs repeat three times inside it, it quotes the listing's own review counts as prose, and it states at the bottom that it was written from registration data. It says "having been there myself" more than twenty times and never names a drink or a price.
Not a quiet bar — but not a loud one either. One writer counts it a virtue that the room is lively enough that you do not feel conspicuous alone; another says the music is low enough to talk over. They seem to have gone at different hours: one post sets it out, that on a weeknight the room is thin from opening until ten and fills after that. On the music the posts disagree — hip-hop in one, quiet jazz and indie in another — but one writer mentions they will play requests, so it likely depends on who is in.
Nobody reports queuing — you walk in and sit down rather than book (one post mentions you can ask by Instagram message or through the map app). What some do record is when the room fills. Three arrived at eight on a weeknight and were the first customers; one came on a bank-holiday Monday to find it already half full. One writer passes on that Friday and Saturday are nearly full by nine and advises arriving between eight and half past — but that is what she was told, not what she saw. One other repeats the same thing about weekends.
One post disagrees about the floor. The licence and the check-in widget on all twenty-four posts say ground floor; one writer describes the bar as being upstairs from the tteokbokki place that shares the address. Both are in the same building, so one of them may be a half-level down — but with one post saying it we cannot settle it. No post mentions stairs either way.
The hours are the one thing every post agrees on: eight in the evening until four the next morning, every day. Twelve posts give it, none gives anything else. Only one records a last order, at half three. There is no afternoon break, and one post notes the closing days are irregular — there is no fixed day off, so check the bar's Instagram before a late trip. Prices are thinner. Four posts repeat the shop's own line about fifty cocktails and sixty whiskies from ₩12,000, but only two record what they actually paid — ₩13,000 for two classics, ₩15,000 for each of the signatures. What a whisky costs appears nowhere. Even the phone number splits: four posts give one number, a fifth gives a different one. One says you can ask about a table by Instagram message.
