Itaewon Saranghae

이태원사랑해 Saranghae is Korean for "I love you" — the name reads "I love you, Itaewon"; it shares a stairwell with its sister bar Itaewon Sarangbang ("the love room"), which serves land-side drinking food.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

A seafood drinking spot in the basement of 52 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, on the bar street near Itaewon Station exit 1. Five posts describe the stairwell: Itaewon Saranghae on the left, its land-food sister Itaewon Sarangbang on the right. A live tank greets you inside, and people order seasonal raw prawns (38,000 won for a half order), butter-grilled cuttlefish (49,000 won), a two-fish sashimi plate with stew (60,000 won) and herring-roe bibimbap (13,000 won). The menu is on a QR code at each table and changes with the season. Three posts came with friends, two with family, two in a group, one on a date. We read 30 posts from June 5 to October 17, 2026; 17 were written after a visit here. The other 13 only shared the word in the name or were about other places, so we set them aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Big for a basement. Twelve posts call it spacious, several noting a second seating area further in. One counts 60 seats; another found it full on a weekday evening despite the size.
  2. The free starters look like a sashimi house's. Sixteen posts describe them: blanched seaweeds, laver, white or aged kimchi, chojang, and corn cheese — though an Aug 25 post asked why their table got no corn cheese. Several mention barley tea served in old Del Monte bottles.
  3. Seven posts say portions are large. One writer who rarely leaves food couldn't finish the roe braise; another counted about twelve prawns in a half order.
  4. The walls are covered in celebrity autographs; four posts saw them, one pointing out Jungkook's right in the middle. The claim that he is a regular is hearsay and we don't count it.

Getting inside

In a basement7 of 17 posts
Toilet inside3 of 17 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 17 posts

It is underground. Seven posts say you go down to it — one notes it is on the first basement level, another that it is far roomier than you'd expect for a basement. One mentions taking the stairs down.

No one wrote about steps at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post mentions stairs down to the basement; we don't know whether there is a lift — not that there isn't one, just that nobody said.

The toilets are inside the bar. Three posts say so; two note separate men's and women's rooms and two say they are roomy. One counted about three stalls.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Posts disagree on ordering. Four say the QR code only shows the menu and you order from staff or with the bell hanging from the ceiling; two say they ordered through the QR code itself.
  • Waiting depends on the day. An Aug 25 weekend visit found quite a few people queuing; two posts that went on a Sunday evening (June 8) and a Monday (Aug 14) walked straight in. That Fridays and Saturdays fill up early is hearsay. Two posts booked ahead through Naver.
  • Heat varies by dish. Two posts found the seafood ramyeon spicy and one the roe braise quite hot; a Sept 23 post said the stir-fried roe was not that hot.
  • Prices vary between posts. A full order of raw prawns is 64,000 won in an Oct 6 post and 54,000 won in an Oct 8 post. The sashimi plate is 60,000 won with stew or 45,000 without, and a Sept 14 post says it was cut to 40,000 won when only two fish were in. One Oct 8 post found it pricey — more than double buying prawns at Noryangjin — while four posts from June to Oct 6 called it good value. Adding up what pairs ordered, a meal for two came to roughly 50,000–70,000 won.
  • Opening hours are all copied from listings and they don't agree. Two June–July posts say it ran until 3:30 a.m.; most posts from August on give 17:00–02:30 daily (03:30 on Saturdays) with last orders at 01:30. One Sept 14 post lists Monday as a day off, yet an Aug 14 post ate there on a Monday; a Sept 1 post says 01:30 on Sunday to Thursday. Check before you go.
  • Many posts say it is a two-to-three-minute walk from Itaewon Station exit 1, mostly copied from listings; two say from experience that the walk was easy. One warns that Kakao Map places it further up the hill than it really is — it's on the main strip.
  • Three phone numbers appear: 0507-1317-9825 in four posts, 010-8593-3018 in two, and 010-9361-2562 in two June posts. Posts that booked did so through Naver reservations.
  • Of the seventeen visit posts, two say they paid their own way; the other fifteen say nothing. Many August–October posts follow the same order — location, hours, entrance, tank, QR menu, starters — with overlapping hashtags. None disclose sponsorship, but some may be promotional.
