클레오 Cleo Mediterranean plates inside the Mondrian Seoul Itaewon

Data as of · Published ·

Cleo is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant on the ground floor of the Mondrian Seoul Itaewon, inside the hotel at 23 Jangmun-ro between Itaewon and Hannam-dong; the registered floor area is 417 square metres. The cooking runs through Greece, Türkiye and Lebanon — three dips with bread from the wood oven, kebabs off the skewer, and the boat-shaped flatbread called pide. The oven is visible from the room and the kitchen is open. In the mornings the same room is the hotel's breakfast buffet, open to non-guests at 60,000 won a head. It closes twice a day, so lunch starts at twelve and dinner at half past five. The posts we read run from January 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Four posts booked ahead, through Naver or CatchTable; one took a seven o'clock table, another found the room had plenty of tables anyway. One pulled off a sixteen-person family gathering on Chuseok day itself, noting how little else was open over the holiday. One post says seating runs from twos up to a ten-seat table, another that there is a separate bar counter. One walked in without a booking on a weekday lunchtime and was seated easily, though the room was busy.
  2. The kitchen is open and the wood oven is in view — three posts write about the kitchen and five about the oven. Two of them read the open kitchen as a hygiene signal: you can watch the chefs work. The oven is where the bread keeps coming from, and one writer watched a chef build and fire her pizza by hand. Four posts also stop at the ceiling — coloured stained glass, which one calls the restaurant's real signature.
  3. Three posts took thirty percent off with an Accor membership, one of them through a particular credit card. For one writer the discount is what settled the question of price — expensive, yes, but reasonable once it came off. The prices we carry are all before any discount. One of the three quotes their own post from two years earlier, which cites ten percent rather than thirty, so the rate appears to have changed.

Parking

5 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park5 of 19 posts

Eat at Cleo and three hours' parking is covered — five posts discuss it. One is pointed about it: three free hours in Itaewon, where parking is otherwise hell. Another found the stack goes further — buy something at the basement café and you get two hours more, which they used for a walk. Valet is available, and one writer says they are generous with it and advises driving. One dissent: the car park on basement levels three and four is tight enough that you should go down early. Nobody wrote down what parking actually costs.

Getting there

Map showing where CLEO is

Getting inside

Ground floor. Thirteen posts carry the address line saying so, but that line comes from Naver's check-in widget. Four writers state the floor themselves, the most precise placing it to the right of the main entrance on the first floor, and one noting the building's quirk: the hotel lobby is on the second floor and the restaurants on the first, so you go up to check in and back down to eat. Five mention the basement arcade with its convenience store, bakery and restaurants — that is not Cleo.

Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across nineteen posts the words for threshold, step and ramp never appear. We know it is the ground floor of a five-star hotel with lifts, and one description of the walk from the lobby — past mirrors, artificial trees and a swing — reads as level, but nobody describes the entrance itself. One post mentions the hotel takes dogs, but that is about the rooms and we excluded that post. This is not a claim that you cannot get in; it is us saying we do not know.

Not one post mentions the toilets. In nineteen posts they never come up — whether they are inside the restaurant, whether you use the hotel lobby's, whether they are separated by sex. Being on a hotel's ground floor makes a guess easy, but a guess is not ours to write down. Two posts describe the bathrooms in detail, but those are guest rooms, and one of those posts is one we excluded.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Four call it expensive and two do not — and they are measuring different things. The first group quotes totals: 98,000 won for three kebabs, 170,000 for a table of three, twice what they usually pay for pizza and pasta, and 60,000 for a breakfast one writer will skip next time. The second group measures against other hotels — a hundred and thirty-odd thousand for two across four plates reads as fair to them for the room and the service. Those two totals are the honest arithmetic here. Breakfast sits apart: 60,000 on the day, 41,800 if you pay the night before.
  • Nobody queued, and three posts describe a busy room. Breakfast is the crush: nine o'clock on a Saturday was full. A post we excluded — it never ate there — copies the hotel's own crowding chart: quiet until seven, fairly quiet until eight, and busy from eight to ten with waits possible. Lunch and early dinner read as calm, and a sixteen-person party was taken on a booking.
  • They disagree about arriving without a car. The clearest says it plainly: too far to walk comfortably from Itaewon station, and since they are generous with the valet, drive. One gives the distance as 921 metres from exit 3 at Noksapyeong. One came by bus, thirty minutes from Yongsan station. A post we excluded gives the fullest directions and still recommends a taxi if you have luggage — five bus routes stop at the district office, and the subway leaves you a ten-minute walk. One reviewer scored access four out of five while giving fives elsewhere.
  • Morning and evening read like two different restaurants. Of nineteen posts, six only ate breakfast, eleven came to the restaurant for lunch or dinner, and two did both on one stay. What the two groups write about barely overlaps: kebabs, pide, hummus and prices on one side; buffet range and the 60,000 won figure on the other. Four breakfast posts converge on "not much choice"; four restaurant posts converge on the opposite problem — the menu is hard to read. One asked the staff to recommend; another advises pulling up other people's photos on your phone and pointing, and says they will find the dish for you. Three ordered on a staff recommendation.
  • One in five of the posts we read never ate here. Of twenty-four, five came out of the count. One says outright that they did not take breakfast (they ate across the road instead); one is a room-and-amenities write-up that links its breakfast review separately; one carries booking-site discount links and says its author ordered delivery to the room; one is an itinerary proposal rather than a visit; and one is a hotel guide assembled from ratings, room rates and cancellation terms. That is why the number is nineteen and not twenty-four. No post declares a sponsorship and seven say they paid. But one is a Coupang affiliate post — it discloses the commission up front and carries three shopping links inside the text. We counted nothing from the disclosure, but the advertising may be why those particular dishes were ordered, so we note it. We did not count the hotel's other outlets as ours — the lobby lounge, the second-floor bar, the rooftop bar and the fifth-floor pool are separate businesses with their own check-in entries. The 15,000 won coffee and the 12,000 won beer in two posts came from those, so they are not in our menu.
