BARBOO

바부 Babu Barboo plays on the word bar; read in Korean, 바부 is also a baby-talk form of 바보, 'silly', which bloggers joke about — the house has not said which it meant.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Barboo is a brunch café and wine bar on the third floor of a white building at 158 Itaewon-ro, a short walk from exit 4 of Itaewon station. Tuesday to Thursday it opens only in the evening as a wine bar; Friday to Sunday it serves brunch by day and wine at night. Of the 26 posts by people who went, 18 ordered the 9,000-won spicy egg potatoes and 12 the lemon ragu pasta (28,000 won), and the long bar counter along the street-facing windows is what the place is known for. Plates are small, so two people usually share two or three, and several posts mention a lollipop on the way out. We read 30 posts dated 25 April 2025 to 14 October 2026: 26 visits, 2 that only passed by or listed the name, and 2 about other places that we set aside. Ten said they paid their own way; none disclosed sponsorship.

Rows without a count: 11 of 14 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The street-facing glass wall is the draw: 20 of the 26 visit posts mention the window seats. On good days the windows are opened, which several posts liken to sitting on a terrace three floors up; the big tree outside makes spring and summer the best seasons and leaves the view bare in winter. One post found the seats on the opposite side stuck facing a grey building.
  2. The window seats are a long counter where people sit side by side, but it is not counter-only: 9 posts describe regular or round tables, and groups of three were seated at them. One post, though, counted only two or three tables and said pairs end up at the counter.
  3. Fourteen posts booked through CatchTable or Naver, or told readers to — mostly to secure a window seat. One noted that booked guests are seated only at the reserved time.
  4. An evening booking comes with a bottle requirement. Two posts ran into it, and both say the cheapest bottle was 75,000 won; one couple's bill came to 138,000 won. Posts that copied the house rules say walk-ins can order by the glass (13,000 won).

  1. Waiting depends on timing. Three posts waited: about 20 minutes at 6:20 on a Friday despite empty seats, a Friday 6 p.m. walk-in who left a full window row and a wait list and came back around 9, and a Sunday-morning visitor who put a name down and wandered the neighbourhood. Five did not wait, mostly because they booked or came early. There is a sign-up sheet at the third-floor door. One post warned of hour-long waits, but that writer had booked and found the room empty.
  2. Small portions come up again and again: 5 posts say so — the 28,000-won lemon ragu felt small for the price, and the 35,000-won duck breast and 16,000-won gratin drew the same comment. One post found two dishes just right for two people.
  3. Six posts call it expensive. In 2026 posts: potatoes 9,000 won, avocado sandwich 18,000, pastas 24,000–28,000, wine by the glass 13,000, alcohol-free highball 15,000, drip coffee 6,000. One receipt for two, bottle included, came to 138,000 won.
  4. Six posts walked from exit 4 of Itaewon station — three to five minutes. Itaewon station is closer than Noksapyeong.
  5. Five posts found the staff friendly — a foreign server chatting in fluent Korean and joking about an extra-generous pour, another opening the wine despite an injured hand.
  6. It is not quiet: 2 posts call it loud and busy, and one advised taking serious conversations elsewhere. Descriptions of the music range from groovy to mellow.
  7. The room is small: 3 posts call it cramped — one long rectangle with the window counter and a few tables.
  8. Four posts note the open kitchen behind the window seats; one watched three chefs cooking brunch.
  9. Many come back: 10 posts describe repeat visits — six times, four or five, three. Regulars tend to reorder the same set: lemon ragu, potatoes, sourdough or the avocado sandwich.
  10. Thirteen posts went with friends, 3 with a partner and 1 with family — a blogger who brought her parents, who loved it.
  11. One post brought two dogs, which the neighbouring table fussed over. Other posts list pets as welcome, but they copied the shop's listing, so we did not count them.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 7 (of 25 posts read)
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 25 posts read)

It is on the third floor: 7 posts describe going up, and a couple first tried the bagel shop on the ground floor or a door on the second. The entrance is inside the building.

No one mentioned steps at the entrance, a lift, or wheelchair or stroller access. Several posts describe climbing the stairs to the third floor, but we cannot tell whether there is no lift.

The toilet is outside the restaurant: 2 posts say so, and one mentions a keypad on the door handle. Nobody said whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Chairs divide opinion: 2 posts found the window stools uncomfortable, 1 found both counter and table seats comfortable.
  • The address reads third floor and rooftop, but no post describes going up to a rooftop — only hearsay and wishes to try it.
  • Only 1 post mentions a two-hour table limit; the rest are silent, which is not the same as saying there is none.
  • Several posts mention a one-drink-per-person rule; coffee or juice satisfies it, so we did not count it as an alcohol minimum.
  • Opening hours are usually given as Tuesday–Thursday 17:00–24:00 and Friday–Sunday 12:00–24:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break, last order 23:00, closed Mondays. One post has Friday opening at 17:00 and another has noon every day from Tuesday. An April 2025 post listed Monday evenings as open; every post from July 2026 on says Mondays are closed. One advises checking holiday closures.
  • Prices shift over time: bisque pasta was 26,000 won in September 2025 and 28,000 in August 2026. Lemon ragu is mostly 28,000 won, with one post at 26,000. Posts disagree on whether the menu changes seasonally or not at all.
  • Six posts give the same phone number, 02-797-5621. Every booking described was made through CatchTable or Naver; none by phone.
