Tongil Budaejjigae

통일부대찌개 Tongil means unification, and budae-jjigae is the army-base stew of ham, sausage and noodles.

Compiled from 14 blog posts read in fullSources →

Tongil Budaejjigae is a budae-jjigae house in the alley across from the main gate of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Imun-ro 28-gil 10, ground floor). There are two stews, the basic one at 9,000 won a portion and a brisket version at 11,000, and instant noodles cost 1,500 won extra; three posts paid 19,500 won for two portions plus noodles. A big pot of ingredients and broth comes to the table to boil, and rice is included. Some time before October 2025 it moved across the same alley into a larger room of four-person tables. We read 18 posts from October 2025 to September 2026; 14 record a meal here, and three were about Odduki Budaejjigae nearby and were set aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Four posts, all by longtime customers, say the restaurant moved across the alley. One went to the old spot, found it gone, and was told inside the big new place opposite that it had moved. Two more only guessed at a move from the fresh interior. The move predates our first post (October 2025), so none describes the old room.
  2. Six posts call the room spacious and five call it clean, mostly comparing it with the old premises. Two say it is mainly four-person tables that can be pushed together for groups, and one mentions a second floor.
  3. Seven posts topped up side dishes at the self-serve bar. The table starts with pickled radish and stir-fried fish cake; kimchi is at the bar. One post says only kimchi and radish are refillable, not the fish cake, and another notes the self-serve kimchi is from China.
  4. Seven posts say it is not expensive; one says two people eat their fill for under 20,000 won. Every post from October 2025 to September 2026 gives the same 9,000 won a portion.
4 more
  1. Five posts found the portions generous, and three say the rice is not stingy, two noting it comes in a large bowl suited to soaking in the broth.
  2. Seven posts say you can take the stew away, in small, medium and large sizes 5,000 won apart; one post copied 17,000, 22,000 and 27,000 won from the board.
  3. Four posts say it is an easy walk: three minutes from Hankuk Univ. of Foreign Studies station, 289 m or about five minutes from exit 4.
  4. Of the posts that say who they went with, five went as a couple with a spouse or partner, and the usual order was two portions plus one serving of noodles.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 14 posts

One post says there is no parking at the door and you need the paid public lot by exit 4 (3,000 won an hour); one visitor who drove used the Hwigyeong 1-dong public lot. Three posts copied a 'no parking' line from the listing, which we did not count.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Four posts say it is an easy walk: three minutes from Hankuk Univ. of Foreign Studies station, 289 m or about five minutes from exit 4.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 14 posts
Toilet inside3 of 14 posts

The address is the ground floor, and the only first-hand note on floors is one post mentioning a second floor; nobody says how you get up there.

We don't know whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in; nobody wrote about it. One post recalls bringing a stroller years ago, but that was at the old premises, so we did not count it.

Three posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant. One adds that it is separated by gender but admits not checking inside.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 15 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on heat are split: three posts found it spicy (one likens it to Shin Ramyun), two found it mild, and two described it as peppery but more savoury than hot. One mentions a strong black-pepper note.
  • Whether staff tend the pot is split two to two: two posts say a server lifted the lid, loosened the noodles or adjusted the flame; two say staff only poured the broth and left them to follow the how-to sign on the wall.
  • No post reports waiting. One found it quiet on an early weekday evening; others found it half full around 11:30 or sat down just before the lunch crowd. We don't know whether there is a queue at lunchtime during term.
  • The only companions recorded are five couples and one visitor who drove. Nobody wrote about going with friends, a group or children; the remarks about big student groups describe other tables, and the '100 seats' figure is hearsay.
  • Nine posts give the same hours, 09:30 to 20:30 daily, but all in an address-and-phone block copied from the listing. Nobody mentions closing days, a break or last orders.
  • One post says the noodle add-on was charged at 1,500 won, unlike what the menu board showed; it doesn't say what the board said.
  • Seven posts give the phone number, 02-963-2032. Claims that you can book, including for groups, are copied from the listing or hearsay; no post booked ahead.
