Ojugine

오죽이네 본관 A 1994 Ikseon-dong house whose one dish is a soupy chicken-and-garlic stew you boil down at the table

Data as of · Published ·

Ojugine is a chicken-stew house three to five minutes' walk into the Ikseon-dong lanes from exit 6 at Jongno 3-ga. It has been licensed since 1994, it is under a hundred square metres, and it sells essentially one dish. The name says maeuntang — a soup — and six posts locate the difference from the usual braise exactly there: the pot arrives loose and soupy rather than reduced, and you boil it down at the table, add a noodle, and finish with fried rice. The small is sized for two at 30,000 won, the large for four at 48,000. It works as a drinking house as much as a restaurant: seven of the twenty-two people who went record drinking. Ten posts say it opens Monday through Saturday and closes on Sunday. The posts we read run from 9 to 29 September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Both are written here: that there was a wait and that there was not — four say they waited, six say they did not, and the split seems to be about when. Those who came on a weekday before six, at weekday lunch peak, or during the Chuseok holiday afternoon sat straight down. One who arrived at half past five on a Saturday was first in line, waited five minutes, and then watched the queue build behind her. One waited half an hour; one had been turned away by the lunch queue on an earlier attempt. Three posts explain the system: you take a ticket at the counter, and your whole party has to be present before you are seated — and one adds that if your number passes you take a new ticket.
  2. Seven posts describe the walk. From exit 6 at Jongno 3-ga they variously make it three, five or ten minutes, and two writers on different days trace the same route: out of exit 6, into the lane by the fabric shop, then left and straight on. Two note that the station is an interchange for lines 1, 3 and 5. Two warn that the lanes are narrow and look alike, so first-timers should keep a map open and check which lane they are entering. One gives more distances on foot — six minutes to Jongmyo and the Seosunra-gil wall, sixteen to Gwangjang market — one walked to Jongmyo afterwards, and two walked in along the Cheonggyecheon stream.
  3. Seven posts say it is not as hot as the name promises. Two people who do not handle chilli were fine with it (one reporting for the partner she came with); one calibrates it as instant ramyeon with a little extra chilli powder; two draw the distinction that the heat is garlic and coarse chilli rather than capsaicin. Only one writer came looking for something hot. What six of them do write about is the garlic — "a garlic bomb", "the secret of the place is garlic".
  4. Five posts say it looks small from outside and opens up within — "it seemed small from the street and then the room went back further than I expected". One finds the tables big enough for a work dinner; one counts the annex as part of the room. One writer says the opposite: tables packed tight, every gap filled, so "you learn the next table's finances and their love life". Three describe it as loud.
  5. Four posts say the food arrives as soon as you order. "It comes out the moment you order, which suits the impatient." One guesses at why — that it is part-cooked ahead and reheated — and flags the guess as a guess. One notes the chicken comes through cooked, with the vegetables and the noodle laid on top. Two say five minutes at the table gets you eating; one says the knife-cut noodles need over ten.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 21 posts

Two people write about parking a car here. One notes simply "parking: no" in his own checklist. The other explains that there is no lot of the shop's own, that the lane is too narrow to drive into, and that public transport is the easier choice — and names the Jongmyo public car park and the street bays under Nagwon arcade instead. A third mention we did not count: it sits in a run of emoji bullets alongside "phone booking available" and "takeaway available", with no account of actually arriving by car, which reads as copied listing information. So whether to drive here is two people's word, and twenty did not raise it. That same post also records paid corkage at 20,000 won a bottle and private hire of the room; both come from that one post and we could not confirm either.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 21 posts

No post says which floor this shop is on, nor whether there are stairs, nor whether any part of it is below ground — across the twenty-two texts, the words for floor and stairs never point at this shop, only at other places' addresses. The business registration carries no floor number either. A low building in a lane makes the ground floor likely, but that is a guess rather than something we checked, and we do not print guesses.

Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across the twenty-two texts the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, doorstep and level change never once appear — checked by machine and then by hand. Nobody looked at whether there is a step at the door, how wide the door is, or how much room there is between tables. This is not "you cannot": it is we do not know. Two things we do know are worth setting down: one writer says the lane is too narrow to drive a car into, and one says the tables inside are packed tight.

One post mentions the toilet. That writer put "toilet: indoors" in his own checklist, meaning it is inside the premises. That is the whole of what we know. Whether it is separated by sex, how many cubicles there are, whether there is an accessible one — none of the twenty-two says.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 23 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-09-092 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Three shops of this name share the Ikseon-dong lanes, and this page is the original. The main house, the annex and a third branch sit one or two minutes apart, and the public register lists all three separately. Naver's map folds them into a single entry, so posts written after eating in the annex check in here. We therefore dropped one review from the evidence: its author writes "we walked past the main house to the annex" and then describes that room, not this one. Four posts say the staff will send you to one of the other two when this one is full, so which building you end up sitting in may not be obvious.
  • We counted twenty-two of the twenty-seven posts. Two we removed entirely as not being about this shop: one is a "top ten bars in Jongno 3-ga" piece where the name appears only inside a list of search keywords, with the writing instructions left un-deleted at the bottom, and the other is the annex review described above. Three more we kept but left out of the denominator — two neighbourhood round-ups and an essay on the history of braised chicken with five recommendations tacked on. In all three, our part of the text is an address, a phone number and a menu list, or hearsay ("it is said to be"), with no record of anyone eating anything. On the other hand, not one post declares a sponsorship and we found no trace of one — across the twenty-two, the words for sponsorship, comped meals and paid copy never appear, hashtags included. Six writers state they paid their own way; the other sixteen say nothing either way. The twenty-two posts are twenty-two different people.
  • Closing time splits between 21:50 and 22:00 — six posts write ten minutes to ten, three write ten. Four give the last order as 20:50, which makes 21:50 look like the shop's own figure, but we show both. The afternoon break splits too: five write 14:50–16:00 and one writes 15:00–16:00. Two posts have Saturday opening at noon rather than 11:30. Ten posts agree that Sunday is the closing day — though one adds that while the main house and the annex close, the third branch opens on the first, third and fifth Sunday of the month, so a Sunday visit to Ikseon-dong is worth checking against that one.
  • Two things are on the menu board that nobody here ate. Four posts note the lacquer-bark stew at 40,000 won for the medium and six note the octopus dishes at 37,000, and neither was ordered in a single post. One writer looked around the room and reported seeing no table eating either; another says only that she is curious about the octopus next time. So we know nothing about how either tastes, and each price comes from one post in September 2026.
