Nagwonjang X Hanamato
낙원장X하나마토 Nagwonjang means 'Paradise Inn' — the name of the old inn whose building the bar now fills; Hanamato is the izakaya brand it teamed up with.

A Japanese-style izakaya filling an entire former inn, Nagwonjang, in the alleys of Ikseon-dong. The ground floor has a counter, tables and outdoor seats; each upper floor is decorated differently, and there is a rooftop. People come for oden, skewers, a spicy seafood hot pot, baked potato with pollock roe and cheese, and sashimi, with draught beer or highballs. Most dishes run 10,000 to 30,000 won; one group of four paid 94,300 won, and a pair paid 66,000 won for two bottles of sake and two dishes. Two posts say the building used to be a café with a view before it became an izakaya. We read 30 posts dated 28 July to 18 October 2026; 26 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Eight posts sat in or saw the outdoor seating on the ground floor. On October weekend evenings, though, posts found it already full and went upstairs instead — go early or book if you want to sit outside.
- Twelve posts call it roomy — tables spaced well apart, one table big enough for eight — and several chose it as a second stop because crowded Ikseon-dong had queues everywhere else.
- No post describes waiting. Three say they walked straight in — full of customers but no queue, or straight in without a booking on a weekday evening. Outdoor seats and the rooftop filled up, but nobody queued.
- Four posts booked through Naver; one reserved an outdoor table specifically, and another, finding every place in Jongno 3-ga queuing on a weekend, was glad to have a booking.
7 more
- Ten posts describe it as close to the station: from Jongno 3-ga Exit 4, turn into the alley by the nogari bar and walk straight — three minutes in one post, seven in another. One got lost despite the map and advises looking for the building with the all-glass ground floor.
- Five posts ordered by scanning the QR code at the table; one adds you can also order from a staff member with the menu.
- Seven posts mention a free bowl of pretzels or crackers on sitting down; one asked for and got a refill.
- Six posts mention the review offer: write a Naver review and get either mochi tofu or tako-wasabi on the house.
- Seven posts call something spicy — the seafood hot pot or the Sichuan fried chicken. Descriptions of the hot pot range from genuinely fiery to pleasantly sharp; one warns people who cannot take heat.
- Eight posts found prices reasonable and two found them high. The first group cites 3,900-won Terra draught and 8,000-won sake; the two critics point to Ikseon-dong prices in general and six pieces of flatfish gimbap for 20,000 won.
- Eleven posts went with friends — the largest group — followed by dates with a partner or spouse and groups of four or an office outing. One regular comes alone and eats at the ground-floor counter without minding anyone.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 9 of 25 posts |
|---|---|
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 6 (of 25 posts read) |
| Lift to the floor | yes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read) |
| Toilet inside | 3 of 25 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 1 of 25 posts |
The upper floors are the draw. Nine posts sat or looked around above the ground floor; one watched the tiled hanok roofs from a fourth-floor window seat, another noted each room upstairs is styled differently and suits groups. Six posts sat on the ground floor; none mention a basement.
One post thought there was no lift. Others describe climbing stairs to the upper floors; one found the climb to the top a test of stamina and warned the stairs could be risky after drinking.
No post mentions entering with a wheelchair or pushchair, or a step at the door — not that there is none, just that nobody wrote about it. One post mentions stairs at the entrance, but it is unclear whether that is a step in or the stairs up. The upper floors and rooftop appear to be reached by stairs.
Three posts say the toilet is inside. One notes that many old Ikseon-dong buildings put it outside, and comes here alone often partly because it is indoors and clean. One post says there are separate men's and women's toilets — single-occupancy, so they had to wait their turn.
No one mentioned: Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-10-17 | 2 posts in one day |

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices appear to have gone up between late September and early October: the roe-and-cheese potato from 19,000 to 20,000 won, the oden-and-skewer set from 26,000 to 28,000, the Sichuan chicken from 22,000 to 24,000. The seafood hot pot is listed at 23,000 and 26,000, but a post of 9 October still has 23,000, so the line is not clean; the wagyu hot plate went the other way, 30,000 in August and 28,000 in October. Check the date of any post you use for prices.
- Three posts call it clean, but one found the table sticky from the moment they sat down and said that alone ruled out a return — while praising the toilet.
- Three posts went up to the rooftop. Two others found it closed — one was told it does not open on weekdays — so it may not be available every night. One post notes the rooftop seating is a bar facing the view, not face-to-face tables.
- No post mentions going with children; it is a late-night bar, but we do not know whether there are high chairs or anything for kids.
- Weekend DJ sets appear only as the shop's own promotion or hearsay, so we did not count them; a September post thought the DJ booth was no longer in use. Lines about designer furniture and yakitori learned in Shinjuku are likewise the shop's copy.
- Two posts published on 17 October follow the same template — the same designer names, the same 'from the ground floor to the rooftop', the same oden-and-skewer set plus pasta, and no prices at all. We treated them as promotional copy and did not count them as visits.
- Opening hours are usually given as 17:00 to midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 01:00 on Friday and Saturday, but always copied from the listing. Last orders differ: 23:00 (00:00 Fri–Sat) in August–September posts and one of 9 October, 22:50 (23:50) in three October posts — we cannot tell whether it changed. One post says Saturday and Sunday run to 01:00, and no post mentions a closing day.
- Eight posts give the phone number as 0507-1336-7767; one gives 02-743-7767. Those who booked did so through Naver rather than by phone.
- Two posts say the building was once a café with a view and is now an izakaya run with the Hanamato brand. We do not know when it changed, only that a June 2026 receipt is already from the izakaya; every post we read is from the izakaya era.
