익선세겹살 A pork-belly grill in the Ikseon-dong alley where half the tables are set out on the lane itself
Data as of · Published ·
Ikseon Segyeopsal is a pork-grill house a minute or two from exit 6 at Jongno 3-ga, tucked into the pork-belly lane in Ikseon-dong. This is the busiest street-table drinking lane in Seoul, and the restaurant sets its own tables out in the alley. Belly, rind-on belly, skirt, collar and jowl are all 180g for ₩18,000; only the beef short-rib costs more. Order meat and a steamed egg and a pot of bean-paste stew arrive free. Ten in the morning to five to midnight, every day. The posts we read run from 24 March to 24 September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- People come here for the seat, not the pork. Seventeen of the twenty-one write about the street tables. On the meat they split — from "genuinely delicious" to "come here for the atmosphere, not the food" — but on the tables they barely disagree: eating outside makes it taste twice as good; a pork-belly grill in the open air in the middle of Seoul is a rare thing. And yet only six of the twenty-one actually sat outside. The rest went in, and said why: too hot (four, all from June to August), no free table (three), too many people walking past (two). One writer simply thought the alley looked too loud and preferred it indoors. Indoors gets you half of it. Six note that the front wall folds open, so a window seat is "half a street table". If you are set on sitting outside, go early, go on a weekday, and go when it is not sweltering.
- You will queue, but how long depends entirely on when you come. Six report waiting; the three who put a number on it say thirty minutes (Friday, seven in the evening), ten (a chilly spring evening) and five to ten (a weekday, half past seven). The four who did not wait all came early, or wandered the lane until something opened. The queue belongs to the street, not to this restaurant. One writer describes waits of dozens to hundreds of parties along the alley and then says she "took refuge" here because the line was shorter. Another joined the longest line in the lane, gave up on it, and got in when the owner came out asking who would eat indoors straight away. Two more were waved in from the street by staff. There are no tickets and nowhere to wait — nobody mentions a number; you stand outside until a table clears.
- Order meat and a steamed egg and a pot of bean-paste stew come free — fifteen posts say so, more than say anything else about this place. One points out that most grill houses now charge for both. It is also the pitch. Two writers were called over from the alley with the offer of a free steamed egg, and one adds, drily, that everyone seemed to be getting one anyway. They agree about the egg — soft, cloud-like, nobody complains — and disagree about the stew: one finds it pleasantly sharp, one thinks it salty, one calls it a perfectly ordinary bean-paste stew with no depth. Two note there is not much of it. The standard table is lettuce, perilla leaf, garlic, soybean paste and a dressed bean-sprout (or cabbage) salad — bean sprouts rather than the usual spring onion. Kimchi and more sprouts go on the grill with the meat, and two note you can ask for more.
- At least once, the posted price and the price charged were not the same. On 22 April 2026 a writer posted the menu photograph he had taken from the listing site and added, with five exclamation marks, that the prices on the wall inside were a thousand won higher. The rest of the posts fit that. Of the twelve that give a figure, nine say ₩18,000 — spread evenly from April to September — and three say ₩17,000, all three from a five-week stretch in June and July, and two of those give it only as a photograph or as "about". One of them is quoting 200g rather than 180g. Budget ₩18,000 a head. That is us reading the posts against each other, not something we have confirmed. Since every cut costs the same, choose by appetite rather than by price.
- There is a limit on how long you may keep the table — but the two writers who mention it give different numbers. One, in April, was told ninety minutes; another, in May, two hours, and gave up on ordering cold noodles because of it. The other nineteen say nothing. One simply notes that an hour had gone by once the beer and the meat were done. Two people, two figures, so we cannot say which is right. Either way this is not a place to settle in: it is a fast table on a crowded lane.
- The room is small. Four say so and none says otherwise: compact, cramped, awkward to move through with a large party, and — most carefully put — not narrow exactly, but with the tables close enough that a full house feels busy. One writer adds that every place on the lane is about this size. What it has instead is a wall that opens. Six note that the front folds back, so a window seat still feels like being outside. Three, all of whom came in out of the heat, report the air conditioning running hard; one was given a fan as well.
- Seven write about the staff and only one is on the other side. The six overlap on specifics: being waved in cheerfully from the lane (two), more side dishes fetched without fuss however busy it is (two), someone coming by to top up the kimchi and sprouts on the grill (one), and a phone taken away to be charged (one). One writer went so far as to score it: friendly, she says, for how busy they were. The dissenting post ties it to hygiene. Writing in June, she calls the service friendly-but-not, notes that refilled side dishes arrive stacked on top of what is left, and records flies and mosquitoes settling on the hot plate — with no chance to wipe it, because the meat was tipped on straight away. Hers is the only one of twenty-one to raise hygiene at all, but she ends by telling anyone sensitive to it to eat elsewhere. She was at an outside table. If you want a photograph, say so first. Three describe the meat going onto the grill before anyone could lift a phone, and one advises asking in advance.
- A lot of the customers are visitors from abroad. Two writers record it themselves — English and Chinese carrying from the next tables; a moment of feeling like a tourist oneself. A third says of the lane that foreigners walking through it stop and stare. One describes the table beside her: visitors who ordered a portion of beef and a portion of pork and grilled them together on one plate. She was sorry for both. Whether there is an English menu, or whether the staff speak any, nobody writes.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 2 of 20 posts |
|---|
One floor, and half of it is outdoors. No post mentions stairs, or seating upstairs or below; seventeen describe the street tables and the room side by side. One notes a long table further in, meaning further back on the same level. Whether there is a step or a lip at the door, nobody writes — all we can count is that no one describes going up.
Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. Across all twenty-one there is no ramp, no threshold, no step. This is a hard place to be silent about: half the seating is on the floor of a narrow hanok alley, which seventeen writers describe as impassably crowded, and four find the tables inside close together. But nobody describes the doorway, or whether there is a lip at it. That is not the same as saying it cannot be done — it is us not knowing. The number is 0507-1488-7772.
The toilet is inside — but only two writers say so. One in September calls it so-so; one in May notes it is indoors and adds that it had a queue of its own, the place being that busy. Whether it is separate for men and women, or how you reach it from the street tables, nobody writes. The other nineteen do not mention it at all, which is few for a place that serves drink until nearly midnight.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 21 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Twenty-one posts, not thirty. Eight were thrown out of the thirty we collected, and one more kept but not counted as a visit. Five of the eight are other restaurants entirely — three about a Jeju-pork place one street over, two about a dry-aged grill by Gyeongbokgung — caught not by our name but by a cut of pork on their menus that shares two syllables with it. The three about the Jeju place are machine-written from the listing site's own blurb, and one of them says so in the text. The other three have nothing about us in the body at all: our name appears only in a "see also" link at the foot of the page. The one kept but not counted is a search-bait piece hung on a celebrity's name whose entire account of this restaurant is one sentence confirming the street address. Half of it is an FAQ and a list of unrelated articles about football transfers and the stock market. Not one post declares a sponsorship; nine declare that they paid. Twenty-one posts by twenty-one people.
- You get here by subway. Three put it at one or two minutes' walk from Jongno 3-ga station, though they do not agree on the exit — two say exit 6, one says 112 metres from exit 3. Two of them describe the turn: exit 6 opens onto the top of the pork-belly lane. The other eighteen do not say how they travelled, which probably means it was too obvious to write down — but we count only what is written. Nobody mentions a bus.
- On whether they would come back, the posts divide cleanly — and for the same reason. Two say no, both because of the food: one wants it understood that you come for the atmosphere, not the pork; the other found the belly slightly tough and signed off the same way. Both of them liked the seat. Against them, one writer who actually did come back: not extraordinary, she says, but *the* place she goes for pork in Jongno — and her reason is that it sells the rind-on cut, where the rest of the lane sells only plain belly and skirt, which she thinks poor value. None of the three contradicts the others. All agree the meat is unremarkable. What they disagree about is whether the table and the price make up for it.
- We have only half a year. All twenty-one posts fall between 24 March and 24 September 2026 — the season when the street tables are out. You can see it in the run: the posts start in late March, cluster in April, thin into a midsummer stretch where four writers retreat indoors from the heat, and pick up again in September with "the season is back". So we do not know what this place is in winter. Whether the outside tables go out at all, whether they get the tarpaulin walls another bar on the same lane is described as using, whether there is still a queue — no post says. That the prices held is true only within those six months.
