독립밀방 익선 Dongnimmilbang Ikseon Italian plates in an Ikseon-dong hanok

Data as of · Published ·

Dongnip Millbang Ikseon is an Italian restaurant three to five minutes' walk from Jongno 3-ga station, down a lane at the near end of the Ikseon-dong hanok quarter. It occupies one old house: white tables and western settings under exposed rafters and timber posts. Pasta, risotto, pizza and a flat-iron steak, with two-person sets priced separately. Open daily, closed between three and five in the afternoon. It opened in 2017 under a different name and became Dongnip Millbang Ikseon in 2026, and the same name now hangs on branches at Dongnimmun, Seoul Station and Cheongnyangni — worth checking which one you are reading about. The posts we read run from August to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. It is small. Seven posts say so, and three of them counted the tables: six or seven, or four fours and three twos, or about six between the two sizes. One writer who had been to the Dongnimmun original calls that one roomy and this one modest. Another found the table itself tight enough to hand the juice bottle straight back after pouring. Five posts add that the glazed front keeps it from feeling closed in.
  2. This is a place you book. Five writers had a table reserved, and one of them read a sign at the door saying walk-ins are not taken. Another describes sending a request, getting no immediate confirmation, assuming the place was full, then being confirmed a few minutes later. Walk-ins do get in: one writer arrived to a full room, waited ten minutes and was seated, and two mention the queue terminal standing inside the entrance.
  3. A ten-percent return coupon sits on each table. Five posts mention it; one adds that it covers everything including sets and drinks but cannot be stacked with other discounts, and another that each diner gets one. Two writers kick themselves for not bringing theirs back. Three posts also describe a review event that pays out a Häagen-Dazs — your choice of flavour.
  4. You order from a tablet at the table. Five posts mention it, and four of them tell the same small story: they opened what they took for a menu and found a screen, because the cover is bound like one.
  5. There is one private room. Five posts mention it and agree on the size — three to six people. Two say it has to be booked; one only saw it from outside because another party had it. Six posts frame the restaurant as a place for engagement gatherings or blind dates, and one reports both happening at the tables either side of theirs.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 13 posts read)
Toilet inside2 of 13 posts

Ground floor — only one post writes the floor into the address. Nobody describes climbing stairs, and no post mentions an upper floor or a basement; it is a single-storey house.

Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across thirteen posts the words for threshold, step and ramp never appear. Several describe a converted hanok down a lane, but none describes the entrance itself. This is not a claim that you cannot get in — it is us saying we do not know.

The toilet is inside — two posts say so. One was glad not to have to walk out for it; the other found it clean and noted a basin to wash up at. In Ikseon-dong, where many places send you outside, that is worth recording. Neither says whether it is separated by sex, and nobody mentions an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Easy to reach by subway, though the posts disagree on which exit. Four give directions: three send you out of exit 3 at Jongno 3-ga, 210 metres or five minutes away, and one out of exit 6, three minutes away. Lines 1, 3 and 5 all stop there. One writer who had been says to walk into the lane at the near end of the hanok street and look left.
  • Some waited and some did not, and the difference is a booking. Two waited: one walked in at weekday lunch to a full room and sat after ten minutes, another put their name down and went off round the lanes. Two did not wait, and both had reserved — a Saturday at five, a weekend lunch. One writer warns that peak hours can mean a queue. One got in as the first customer of the day by turning up at eleven.
  • One post declares a sponsorship and five say they paid. The sponsored one says nothing in the body — the disclosure is a single hashtag at the very bottom. Two of the five attach Naver's own payment or booking receipt widget. The other seven say nothing about how they paid, which means they said nothing, not that nothing was given.
  • One in four of the posts we read turned out not to be about this restaurant. We set aside nine of twenty-five: five about branches of the same name (three at Seoul Station, two at Cheongnyangni), two about the owner's sister restaurant round the corner, and two that only brush past the name. Of the sixteen left we excluded three more from the count — one written about the earlier restaurant in this same house, one affiliate post carrying another branch's parking directions, and one assembled out of other people's reviews. That is why the number is thirteen and not twenty-five.
