Cafe

Gaeppul

개뿔 Gaeppul is blunt Korean slang for 'nothing at all' (literally 'a dog's horn', a thing that doesn't exist); one blogger reassures readers it is not a curse word.

Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →

A hillside café at Naksanseonggwakseo 1-gil 26 in Ihwa-dong, right beside the Naksan section of the old Seoul city wall. It occupies a converted old house with indoor rooms on two floors and outdoor terraces, and people come for the view over downtown Seoul to Namsan Tower. You order at the ground-floor counter first, then find a seat. In 2026 posts an americano was 7,000 won, a latte 7,500 won, ades and teas 8,000 won, and the house craft beers 9,000–11,000 won; many writers ordered waffles separately from the neighbouring Baeogae bakery counter. We read 30 posts dated 11 September to 17 October 2026; 21 describe an actual visit. Three were about Cafe San 1-1 across the lane and were dropped, and six list or promotional posts were not counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The terrace is the main event: eleven posts sat outside or described the terrace seats. The sunset spots go early — one writer advises claiming a seat by about 4:30, another to arrive an hour before sunset. Three posts mention blankets laid out for the cold, and two warn about mosquitoes outdoors, one leaving because of them.
  2. It is a coffee shop people also visit for beer. Eight posts note beer on the menu and three drank it — three house craft beers named after the neighbourhood (a Naksan lager, a Doseong wheat beer, an Ihwa IPA), 9,000–11,000 won in one post. Cocktails are on the menu too.
  3. Expect many foreign visitors: three posts saw it themselves, one noting more tourists than Koreans on a midsummer visit. That same summer post said the air-conditioning was strong.

Posts saying you cannot3 of 20 posts

There is no café parking: three of the four posts that came by car say so, parking instead at the Changsin Sodam public lot, the Samseon-dong public lot (1,800 won an hour, because the Naksan Park lot was full) or via a parking app. Another called parking on the hill hellish.

Getting inside

Second floor10 of 20 posts
Step-free accessyes 0 · no 1 (of 20 posts read)
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 20 posts read)

Ten posts describe an upper floor; it has the better view and is more crowded for it — one writer found it hectic. One post notes the exposed rafters and high ceiling upstairs, while another says the stairs are so narrow only one person can pass at a time. Two say the two linked buildings are confusing enough to get lost in.

No post mentions a basement level; writers describe a ground floor, a second floor and the yard and terraces, built into the slope so even the ground floor has a view.

Hard going by wheelchair or stroller. One family wrote that you should give up on the stroller, since it is stairs all the way from the yard to the ground floor and up to the second; many posts describe the approach as steep with steps. Nobody mentioned a lift or the entrance threshold — not that there isn't one, just that no one wrote about it.

Only one post placed the toilet: outside, through the space beside the ground-floor counter (a summer 2025 visit). Another pointed to where it was without saying inside or out, and one said there are several. A note about separate men's and women's toilets appeared only in a copied info block and was not counted.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-162 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have gone up. A summer 2025 visit paid 5,500 won for an americano and said the menu and prices had changed a lot in a year; three posts from Sep–Oct 2026 paid 7,000 won. Of twelve posts that mentioned price, five found it expensive and one said the drinks weren't good for the money. A list post's '4,000-won range' contradicts every visit and was not counted.
  • Four posts arrived by public transport — walking about 25 minutes from Hyehwa station, climbing the wall path from Dongdaemun, or taking bus 301 from Hyehwa. Many posts copy the tip that the Jongno 03 village bus ends nearby, but none actually rode it.
  • Waiting varies: one post waited a little for a seat; another found a line at the counter at 10:15 on a Saturday morning but sat on the terrace straight away. No one gave a wait time. One post says reservations are not taken.
  • Company is mixed: five posts went with friends, four as a couple and two with family. None went alone.
  • Thirteen posts give the hours as 10:00 to midnight daily, but all copied them from the listing; two list posts say 23:00, and one writer notes the sites disagree and suggests calling. Nobody actually saw closing time.
  • Seven posts give the phone number as 02-765-2019; one list post's 02-517-2525 matches nothing else. One post says reservations are not possible.
  • Posts disagree about the neighbouring Baeogae bakery that sells the waffles: a 28 September post said it wasn't operating, yet four October posts bought waffles there. Baeogae is listed at a different address (18-26).
  • Four of the posts — three listicles and one write-up — only list views and menu items without describing a visit, and were not counted.
