Japanese

Seujeurantei

스즈란테이 Suzuran is Japanese for lily of the valley, and tei is a suffix used for an eating house — one visitor looked the name up and wrote this down.

Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Japanese home-cooking restaurant in the basement of Royal Sangga, 245 Ichon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. We read 30 posts dated 10 May to 12 October 2026, set aside 4 that were about other places, and counted 21 actual visits. The dish people order most is the dosirak set, ordered in twelve posts: sashimi, grilled salmon, simmered vegetables, chawanmushi, rolled omelette, pork cutlet, rice and miso soup on one tray, listed at 19,000 won in August and September 2026. There is also a mixed cutlet set (20,000 won), soba sets and rice bowls, and several posts mention being handed two or three menus because the list is so long. Seven visits were with family, four with children.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait at weekends and at lunch. Eight posts say they queued: 20 minutes at a weekend lunch, 20–30 minutes behind three or four groups at 1:30 pm on a Saturday, more than ten people already waiting at the 11:30 weekday opening, first in line at 11:30 on a weekend. Two posts explain there is no app — you give your name to the staff or the owner. Four posts say the owner let them wait inside out of the heat.
  2. Seating is tight. Six posts call the room small. Solo diners describe being seated at a shared six-person table, and one couple sat so close to strangers they gave up on interior photos. Two posts mention shoes-off seating, one of them a sunken-floor room where you can let your legs down.
  3. Eleven posts describe the fried coating as crisp; one found it slightly soggy. Two mention a thick cut of pork.
  4. Price comes up often. Six posts call it expensive — 42,000 won for an eel bowl, 'over 60,000 won again today', 41,000 won for two dosirak sets and a cola. One post said 19,000 won is not cheap but the spread makes it worth it.

Getting inside

In a basement9 of 20 posts

The restaurant is one floor down. Nine posts describe going down into the arcade basement — 'down one level, turn right, and there's the door.' One warns the sign is small and easy to miss; another saw a notice at the entrance asking people to queue along the wall.

Nobody says whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in, or whether there is a lift. One post went down by the stairs inside the building, and a family guide simply advised checking pushchair access because it is underground. That is a gap in the record, not evidence either way.

No post mentions the toilets — where they are or whether they are separate.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have moved and posts disagree slightly. One post says the dosirak went from 17,000 to 19,000 won, while a single September 2026 post lists 18,000. The katsudon is 17,000 won in a May post and 16,000 in an August one. One post notes drink prices are not on the menu and a cola cost 5,000 won. Mains in the posts run roughly 16,000 to 29,000 won per person.
  • Opinions on seasoning split: three posts found things salty (a rice bowl, pickles, the egg topping), two said it was mildly seasoned.
  • Ten posts list the same hours — daily 11:30–21:00, break 15:00–17:00, last order 20:30 — but all in copied info boxes; only one post confirms the opening and break from its own visit. The 'open every day' claim is hearsay.
  • Three posts copy the phone number 02-749-5324. One saw reserved tables already filled at opening, but nobody explains how to book. One post relays that dosirak can be pre-ordered online for delivery.
  • Lines about the owner being the founder of Mitaniya, tableware and ingredients flown in from Japan, and a TV appearance appear near-verbatim in four posts as copied promotion, so we did not rely on them. First-hand: two posts noticed many Japanese diners, and one saw the origin labels posted.
