Eunseol Seolleongtang

은설설렁탕 Seolleongtang is Seoul's clear beef-and-bone soup; the posts do not explain the name Eunseol.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

Eunseol Seolleongtang serves clear, Seoul-style Hanwoo beef soup in a hanok down an alley by Jeongdok Library in Samcheong-dong. The signature is the eunseoltang — brisket, tendon and knee cartilage with fresh ginseng and jujube — ordered in 20 of the 27 visit posts; 16 had the noodle version. As of September 2026 posts, eunseoltang is 33,000 won, the noodle soup 18,000 and plain seolleongtang 17,000; from May 2025 to June 2026 the first two were 30,000 and 17,000. It closes at 5 pm, so it is a lunch place with no dinner service. We read 30 posts from March 2025 to October 2026; 27 describe an actual visit.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a hanok, but you keep your shoes on. Five posts said so and none said otherwise — one noted it looks like a take-your-shoes-off house, but you don't have to.
  2. Sixteen posts said portions are generous; one disagreed. That one — a self-paid visit with a February 2026 receipt — felt the amount was small for the price, the bowl small, and the first serving of kimchi meagre.
  3. No post found it salty; four said the opposite, and three of them seasoned their bowl themselves with the salt and pepper left on each table.
  4. Seven posts described getting there by public transport: a 10–15 minute walk from exits 1 or 2 of Anguk Station toward Jeongdok Library, which two called flat. One took the Jongno 11 village bus from outside Gwanghwamun Station exit 2 to the Samcheong-dong police box.

  1. Eight posts saw foreign diners themselves; a May 2025 post counted two Japanese tourist groups and one English-speaking group among three other tables. The repeated line about a famous Japanese musical actor and celebrities is copied store copy, and we did not count it.
  2. Four posts saw the Korean master-chef plaque or a cooking award hanging on the wall.
  3. Two of the 27 visit posts waited. One arrived around 11:30 on the last day of April to a full room and sat on the wooden veranda for a little over 10 minutes; another came around 3 pm on a public holiday, was first in line, waited 20 minutes for a menu, and saw later arrivals turned away.

From the station

Seven posts described getting there by public transport: a 10–15 minute walk from exits 1 or 2 of Anguk Station toward Jeongdok Library, which two called flat. One took the Jongno 11 village bus from outside Gwanghwamun Station exit 2 to the Samcheong-dong police box.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)
Step at the entrance1 of 27 posts

Only one post mentioned floors: an October 2026 visitor said the hanok is a single ground floor. No post mentioned a basement or upstairs seating.

No one said whether a wheelchair can get in. One March 2025 post stepped over a gate threshold to enter, and a family with two children said only that the walk with a folding stroller was not uphill. We don't know how high the threshold is or whether the stroller went inside.

Two posts put the restroom by the entrance, one adding that it is locked with a keypad; whether it is inside the dining room or off the courtyard is unclear. Copied info lines disagree on separate versus shared restrooms, so we did not rely on either.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up. Posts from May 2025 to June 2026 list eunseoltang at 30,000 won, the noodle soup at 17,000 and dogani-tang at 22,000; September 2026 posts list 33,000, 18,000 and 23,000. Three posts called it expensive; three said it felt pricey but worth it once they ate.
  • Twenty-four posts gave hours; 21 say 11:00–17:00 with last order at 16:00. Posts from March and May 2025 and one April 2026 post give a 10:00 opening — since July 2025 only that one post says 10, so we read it as a shift from 10 to 11, not confirmed with the shop. Two posts note there is no afternoon break. One copied info block says no closing day; a list post says closed on public holidays, yet one visitor ate there on a holiday afternoon.
  • Four posts said the room is not large; one called it spacious. Three mentioned two- and four-person tables.
  • Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1391-2997; two give 02-722-2997. Reservations appear only in copied amenity lists — no post says they booked ahead.
  • The same promotional lines recur across many posts (government-certified safe restaurant, 35–45-month-old cows, celebrity visits). Four posts disclose sponsorship; three posts sharing an identical 12-hashtag block and two sharing an 8-hashtag block say nothing. Even the history disagrees — second or third generation, since 1974 or 1994 — so we state neither.
