Chinese

Palais de Chine

팔레드 신 Palledeu Sin Palais de Chine is French for 'palace of China' — a modern Chinese room styled after 1930s Shanghai chinoiserie inside the L'Escape hotel.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Palais de Chine is a Chinese restaurant on the 6th floor of the L'Escape hotel, 67 Toegye-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Peking duck (mentioned in 16 posts, eaten in 9) and dim sum dominate: the whole duck is shown at the table, carved beside it, the skin dipped in sugar and the meat wrapped in pancakes. Posts put a whole duck at 160,000 or 180,000 won, a basket of dim sum at 20,000–23,000, and the lunch yumcha course at 100,000 per person. We read 29 posts dated 22 June to 8 October 2026; we set aside 7 (hotel-stay reviews, the tea salon on the same floor, other duck restaurants) and did not count 2 promotional posts as visits, leaving 20 visits — two of them written up years after 2021 and 2022 meals.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Book the duck ahead. Eight posts say they reserved; one booked about three days out, another advises at least two to three days, and several noted the duck in the booking request. One post walked in on two weekday evenings without a reservation and had no wait.
  2. Ten posts call something crisp — most often the duck skin dipped in sugar, but also the hanwoo sweet-and-sour beef ('crisp like a cracker'), the kataifi radish rolls and the chili prawns. Six mention the soup in the xiaolongbao. Two found the meal getting greasy as the duck went on.
  3. Five posts say portions are large: one couple got a four-person course and took the rest home; another thought the duck looked small and still left some. One post says a whole duck suits two; another says three or four should share one if ordering other dishes.
  4. Eight posts say it is right by Hoehyeon station (exits 6–7), under five minutes from the train; one notes the hotel sits on a slope.

  1. Eight posts praise the staff — a requested window sofa honoured, curtains and lighting adjusted for a family photo. One post differs: given a cramped two-top for a four-portion course, the couple had to ask to move.

Two posts actually parked in the hotel garage: three hours free with a meal, then 1,000 won per 10 minutes, valet 25,000; one parked on B6. Other 'parking available' lines were copied listings and not counted.

Where it is

Map showing where Palais de Chine is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Eight posts say it is right by Hoehyeon station (exits 6–7), under five minutes from the train; one notes the hotel sits on a slope.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 3 (of 19 posts read)
Lift to the floor3 of 19 posts

Three posts took the lift to the 6th floor, where Palais de Chine is on the left and the tea salon on the right. One couple arrived before the 17:30 opening and waited on a sofa by the door.

No one wrote about steps at the entrance or arriving by wheelchair or stroller. We only know the restaurant is reached by lift; silence is not evidence of step-free access.

No post says whether the toilets are inside the restaurant or in the hotel corridor; one calls them spacious and clean, another photographed the dragon-head taps.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices disagree. A whole duck is 160,000 won in two August 2026 posts but 180,000 on the July menu and in an October post, and 120,000 as a banquet add-on; siu mai shows 21,000 vs 23,000, chili prawns 53,000 vs 55,000, rice rolls 26,000 vs 30,000. Visit dates differ from post dates and anniversary promotions and membership discounts are mixed in, so we cannot tell a price rise from different terms. Three posts call it expensive and three call it fair for hotel dining; one puts it at 120,000–150,000 won a head.
  • Twelve posts give the same opening hours — 11:30–22:00 with a 15:00–17:30 break, last orders 14:30 and 21:30 — but most copied them from Naver or the hotel site; only one saw the break sign at the door. No post mentions a closing day. Several say dim sum and the yumcha course are lunch only.
  • Four posts give the phone number 02-317-4001; one says reservations go through the Josun Hotels app, CatchTable or Naver with no deposit.
  • No one reported queuing. Only two posts touch on waiting — a walk-in on weekday evenings with no wait, and a couple who arrived early and waited by the door. We don't know about weekend evenings.
  • Company falls into two groups: four posts went as a couple for a birthday or anniversary, four with family (a parent's birthday, a family-only wedding meal). One went as four friends, one as a work dinner; one used a private room.
  • Michelin listings come from plaques and the hotel website, so we don't rely on them; posts variously say four years (2022–2025) or six (2020–2025). The 'Tea Salon by Palais de Chine' on the same floor is a separate venue and its posts were not counted.
