Myeongnyun Jinsa Galbi Hapjeong

명륜진사갈비 합정점 Galbi means ribs; jinsa was a degree title of Joseon-era scholars, and Myeongnyundang — the name of the company that runs the chain, as several posts note — was the lecture hall of the old royal academy.

A franchise branch of Myeongnyun Jinsa Galbi at Dongmak-ro 17, a short walk from Hapjeong Station exit 6. You pay 21,900 won per person aged 10 and up, take meat from the display and dishes from the self-serve bar, and grill everything yourself over charcoal; ten posts from September 2025 to October 2026 give that same price. Since September 2026 the display has added a lower-sugar marinated rib, grilled pork intestine and a make-your-own galbi taco; the September 2025 posts instead introduced marinated eel and two kinds of bulgogi as new items. We read 20 posts from September 2025 to October 2026; 16 describe eating here, and 3 were set aside as another branch or news roundups.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Writers are specific that the self-serve bar is kept stocked. Six posts praise the staff: food was topped up before trays ran empty, a nearly empty tray of garlic-soy chicken was refilled at once, and although grill plates are self-service, a staff member came to swap one when asked. Six posts also call the place clean, one calling it the tidiest branch of the chain they had visited.
  2. Three posts saw many foreign diners firsthand, including tour groups of several dozen on the second floor. Three posts also mention an English menu.
  3. Waiting depends on the hour. One post hit a wait at the weekday dinner peak, one walked straight in around 5 pm on a weekday, and one suggests 4 pm to avoid a line. Two posts mention a separate waiting area. No one recorded how many minutes they waited.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 16 posts

One post states plainly that there is no dedicated parking. The claim that parking at a nearby building earns a one-hour ticket is copied from the listing and not counted; no one reports using it. One writer who drove paid separately for a nearby garage through an app.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 16 posts
In a basement3 of 16 posts
Step at the entrance1 of 16 posts
Toilet inside1 of 16 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 16 posts

The restaurant spreads over several levels. Three posts describe going down stairs inside to a further hall, a half-basement with large group tables. One explains that the back door opens onto the ground floor, the front door onto a level 1.5, with group seating on level 2.5, and the toilets below. Three posts also mention seats on the second floor. Several say it looked small at the entrance but opened up further in, and six posts call it spacious.

We don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in; no one wrote about it. One post does mention high steps at the entrance leading up to the second floor, and several describe stairs down inside. No post mentions a lift.

One post says the toilets are inside the restaurant, another that they are separated by gender and on the lower level. No other post mentions them, and we don't know whether there is an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 17 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Several posts copy the menu board's time limit — 120 minutes on weekdays, 100 on weekends and holidays — but that is the house rule, not something we count. One writer ran close to the limit on a Sunday while grilling slowly; another was told it was fine to stay a little longer when the restaurant wasn't busy.
  • Ten of the 16 visit posts fall into two promotional-looking clusters. Six from September 2025 share the same hashtags and 'good franchise' news story, and only four of them disclose a free meal or sponsorship. Four from September-October 2026 repeat the same new-menu wording and payment-event details, and none discloses anything. Two posts say they paid their own way.
  • Five posts say who they came with: four with friends or acquaintances, one with a daughter. The rest don't say. Many call it good for groups, but no post describes actually going as a large party.
  • Ten posts give the same hours, 12:00-22:50 daily, and three add last orders at 22:00, but all of it is copied from listing blocks; nobody describes arriving at those times. Six posts list the phone number 02-323-6699 the same way. One post copies a note that online reservations are taken for parties of three or more; no one reports booking.
  • The 21,900-won price held steady across the 13 months of posts we read. One October 2026 post says the price had gone up 'a little' compared with before, but gives no earlier figure or date. Three posts put draft beer at 4,500 won a glass; one alone says it is unlimited.
  • The spicy and sweet bulgogi that appear in five September 2025 posts are missing from the meat lists in the September-October 2026 posts. No one says they were dropped, so we can't tell whether they were removed or simply not mentioned.
