Korean

Daeryeonjip

대련집 Daeryeon is the Korean reading of Dalian, the Chinese port city, and jip means house; none of the posts explain why the restaurant took the name.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Daeryeonjip is an old-school restaurant in a Gwansu-dong alley beside Cheonggyecheon, between Jongno 3-ga and Euljiro 3-ga stations, known for bossam wrapped in raw cabbage and beef-bone kalguksu. Posts from March through October 2026 give the same prices: bossam 23,000 won small, 33,000 won large, kalguksu 10,000 won. Eight posts say that when two people order one kalguksu, it arrives split into two bowls. Four posts note that lunch is limited to bossam, pajeon and kalguksu, while dinner adds dishes such as steamed skate, stir-fried octopus and beef tartare. The hall has regular tables, and there are floor-seated rooms where you take off your shoes. We read 30 posts dated 29 May to 13 October 2026: 21 describe a visit, 7 are multi-restaurant lists or a failed attempt, and 2 are about other places.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Food comes out fast. Six posts say so and none complain of a wait for food; one compared the speed to a fast-food counter.
  2. One kalguksu is generally enough for two. Six posts call the portions big and two call them small. The 'big' posts are mostly about the noodles, one noting that even split in two the bowls were generous; both 'small' posts were talking about the meat on the large bossam plate. Of the eight posts that got the noodles in two bowls, six say the kitchen did it without being asked.
  3. Besides the central hall there are several rooms. Six posts sat in or mention the rooms, and four describe them as floor seating. Two say you take off your shoes and sit on cushions; one notes the hall has regular chairs and tables. One post found the rooms cramped: with two tables pushed together, getting out was awkward once the next table filled up.
  4. Eleven posts touch on waiting, but none give a number of minutes. Three walked straight in: one found the place nearly full but with enough seats, one went with friends, and one arrived around 8 pm on a rainy evening. Two saw a line: one got in right away at 6 pm on a Saturday but found people waiting on the way out; another says weekend lunch means a wait, but after 2 pm there was none. That same post adds that staff never rushed them out when the break began. Two more posts went at opening time to avoid a line.
3 more
  1. Three posts found the food unremarkable — 'just the basic bossam you'd expect', 'very middle-of-the-road' — and one said it is less a destination than a good old-school place for a drink with food. A fourth post said the kalguksu did not live up to the hype.
  2. Mostly a place for two: six posts went with a partner or spouse, four with friends, two with a group of coworkers and one with a child. Some went for a work lunch or team dinner.
  3. One post, from a summer visit, complains of many fruit flies, even on the tables. No other post comments on cleanliness.

Where it is

Map showing where Daeryeonjip is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes the floor from experience; the registered address says ground floor, but that is only the listing.

No post mentions an entrance step, stairs, or wheelchair or stroller access. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none. Two posts say the rooms are raised floor seating where you remove your shoes.

The only mention of toilets is a one-line info block in one post saying indoor, separated by sex. We did not count it, and no post describes the toilets from experience.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on price are split: two posts found it expensive (43,000 won for two; 23,000 won for the small bossam), one called it good value. Two people ordering a small bossam and one kalguksu pay 33,000 won. Different prices in list posts (30,000 won large, 9,000 won kalguksu) are copied and not counted.
  • All eleven visiting posts that list hours give Monday to Saturday 11:00 to 21:00, a break from 14:30 to 17:00, closed Sundays, mostly copied from listings. One post found it closed during the Chuseok holiday.
  • Several posts give the phone number 02-2265-5349. On reservations, we only have one post that called ahead and was told two people could just walk in; whether larger groups can book is unknown.
  • Directions from the subway (Euljiro 3-ga exit 2, Jongno 3-ga exit 15, a five- or six-minute walk) appear only in copied info blocks or stock directions, so we did not count them.
