Jobang Nakji

조방낙지 Jobang is short for Joseon Bangjik, the old textile-mill district of Beomil-dong in Busan where this style of octopus stew began; nakji means small octopus.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

An octopus house in an alley of Gwanghui-dong, near exit 8 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station. The dish is san-nakji baekban: live octopus cut over glass noodles, leek and sauce, simmered at your table until staff pile on chives and sesame oil, finished by frying your leftover rice in the broth. It costs 18,000 won a head in posts from February 2026 (17,000 won before), and several posts say it is the only dish at lunch. There is seating on two floors. We read 30 posts from December 2024 to October 2026; 24 record an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't touch the pot. Fifteen posts say staff simmered it, stirred it and added the chives and sesame oil, with lines like 'they told us not to touch it' and 'just wait until they say eat.' The fried rice is another matter: six posts fried it themselves, three say staff did.
  2. Expect a wait at weekday lunch. Six posts queued; the times they give are 15, 15–20 and 20 minutes (arriving around 12:00–12:10). There is no waiting area — one post says you simply line up in the alley — and another notes there is no sign-up kiosk.
  3. Four posts booked ahead, by phone, including one same-day booking; another saw parties turned away because it was full. The number, given the same way in many posts, is 02-2279-1804.
  4. It looks red but most posts say it isn't hot: 8 say not spicy, 3 are in between ('a kick, but not very hot'), 1 says spicy. Two asked for extra chili flakes. Three posts call the broth sweet, one of them in complaint.
1 more
  1. Three posts saw Japanese diners, and all three say the owner or staff speak Japanese well; one watched them cut back the sauce for a table that couldn't take heat.

Getting inside

Second floor8 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 5 (of 24 posts read)

Eight posts mention a second floor. Three were sent upstairs because the ground floor was full (at 11:30, on a weekday evening, and with a booking at noon), and one says the upstairs is used for groups. Five posts place the dining room on the ground and first floors, so it is not a basement. One post notes you take your shoes off upstairs, though there are tables.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — we simply don't know. One post mentions stairs to the second floor; nobody mentions a lift.

No one describes where the toilet is or whether it is split by gender. One post's copied info block says there is an indoor toilet; another only says it was very clean.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours have shrunk. Posts from Dec 2024–Feb 2025 give a 22:00 weekday close, June–July 2025 posts 21:30, and posts since Nov 2025 21:00 (break 14:00–17:30); Saturday went from 20:00 to 19:00 to 18:00. The current pattern appears to be weekdays 11:00–21:00, Saturday 12:30–18:00, closed Sunday. It also closes early when the octopus runs out: two posts were turned away late in the day, and one missed out at a weekend lunch.
  • Prices have gone up: the baekban is 17,000 won in posts through Nov 2025 and 18,000 won from Feb 2026. The 2,000-won fried-rice add-in was charged in one post and waived in two. Two posts find it pricey, two find it cheap. A meal for two runs about 36,000 won plus the fried rice.
  • Six of the 30 posts aren't counted: one is a slot in a neighbourhood list, two are stitched together from the listing and review keywords, two are diaries where the writer arrived too late to eat, and one is a diary with only a check-in.
