Ars Longa

아스론가 Aseuronga Ars longa is Latin, short for 'Ars longa, vita brevis' — art is long, life is short; posts relay that the room doubles as a small gallery with rotating paintings.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

Ars Longa is an Italian restaurant and wine bar on the third floor of an old building in the alley beside Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station (18 Dongho-ro 34-gil, Jung-gu). It serves pasta, gnocchi, risotto and grilled Iberico pork; 2026 posts list prosciutto pasta at 19,000 won, truffle cream gnocchi at 22,000, the octopus squid-ink risotto at 27,000 and the Iberico grill at 32,000. The most-ordered dishes were the truffle gnocchi (12 posts), prosciutto pasta (11) and octopus risotto (10). At the top of the stairs there is no visible door — 19 posts describe pressing a wine bottle on the wall to slide it open. We read 30 posts dated 19 May 2025 to 4 October 2026; 26 of them describe an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. This is a book-ahead place: 13 posts either reserved or told readers to. One party booked 11:30 and found the room full by noon; another booked 5:30 pm and saw it fill by the time they left around 6:20. On a Monday around 6 pm one writer found most tables reserved, though walk-ins were possible. One noted that reserved tables had their orders taken and cooked first.
  2. The window seats are the draw: 12 posts sat by the big windows or described the view over old Dongdaemun. Many went around sunset, and one noticed staff lighting a candle on every table as it got dark. A counter along the window is mentioned too.
  3. On Friday, Saturday and holiday evenings you must order alcohol, and the rule has changed. Posts from May 2025 and February 2026 say one bottle per table; 5 posts from late June 2026 on say one drink per person, glass or highball allowed. A September post copied the menu's note that this replaced the bottle rule.
  4. 5 posts say writing a Naver receipt review gets you a free mango sorbet, from May 2025 through October 2026; on the menu it is 8,000 won.

  1. Easy by subway: 10 posts say it is close to exit 7 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station, about a minute's walk. The alley is old and hard to read, though — many tell you to keep a map app open.
  2. 6 posts went as a couple, and many pitch it for anniversaries, wedding-invitation dinners and blind dates; several noticed mostly couples at the other tables.
  3. 4 posts found portions generous — one noted the bowls are deeper than they look, another that two people were full after three dishes. One felt the Iberico grill was small for its price.
  4. No one called it expensive; 3 posts described the prices as reasonable for a date.

Posts saying you can park2 of 26 posts

The building has no parking. 2 posts drove and used the paid Sangmyeong Building lot nearby. The deal often repeated — say you're visiting Ars Longa and park all evening after 5 pm for 10,000 won — is copied text; no one reported paying it. One family parked at the DDP public lot and walked.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 21 (of 26 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 26 posts

It is upstairs, not in a basement: 21 posts climbed the stairs or placed it on the third floor (one said second). A sign at street level reads, roughly, 'Hard to believe, but coffee and wine on the third floor'; you pass a church landing and turn for another flight.

No one mentioned an elevator, a step at the door, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — which means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none. Every route described is a narrow stair, and writers warn it is steep, especially coming down after drinks. One family brought a child but said nothing about a stroller.

2 posts found separate men's and women's toilets, one specifying they are inside the restaurant. Several mention mouthwash, cotton swabs and hair ties left out. Nobody said whether there is an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • 6 posts found the staff friendly. One sponsored post said drinks arrived without explanation and a server reached in abruptly to set the table lamp. One mentioned staff speak English.
  • Opinions split on size: 3 posts found the room spacious, 2 found it small or modest. Both sides agreed the tables are spaced well enough to talk quietly.
  • Nobody actually sat on the rooftop. Summer visitors found it closed because of the heat or because it was a weekday; a winter visitor skipped it for the cold. Its size and the winter dome tents come from the restaurant's own blurb.
  • No post describes waiting in line; most visitors had a reservation, and the line about possible waits at peak dinner time is advice, not experience. We don't know how long a walk-in waits.
  • Hours: 17 posts give the same daily 11:00–24:00 with last order at 23:00, nearly all copied from the listing; nobody mentions a closing day. 3 posts copied a seating limit from the menu — two hours Sunday to Thursday, two and a half on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. There are separate lunch and dinner menus: coffee by day, wine by night.
  • Prices have gone up: in May 2025 the octopus risotto was 26,000 won and the basil cream pasta 18,000; from June 2026 they are 27,000 and 19,000. One July 2026 post from an 11:30 visit listed lower figures — prosciutto pasta 16,000, truffle gnocchi 20,000, octopus risotto 24,000 — which looks like the separate lunch menu, but we could not confirm it. One anniversary couple ordered nine items and paid 156,000 won.
  • Pickles aren't brought automatically: 4 posts got them by asking, and a May 2025 diner wished there had been something sharp to cut all the cream.
  • Some posts are promotional: one discloses sponsorship and one is tagged as a reviewer-program visit, while 3 say they paid their own way. Many repeat the same blurb in the same order — a space made by young artists, quarterly exhibitions, monthly jazz, a Heart Signal 4 filming location, 10,000-won parking. We treated that as the restaurant's own copy, not evidence.
