Samil Geumnyong

삼일 금룡 Geumnyong means 'golden dragon' — it is the Samil Building branch of the Walkerhill hotel's Chinese restaurant Geumnyong, and 'Samil' is the name of the building it sits in.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Samil Geumnyong is the Samil Building branch of the Walkerhill hotel's Chinese restaurant Geumnyong, on the second floor at 85 Cheonggyecheon-ro, Jongno. It opens on weekdays only and is built around set courses. Of the 19 posts from actual visits, 14 named their course (Samil 5, Baengnyong 4, Cheongnyong 3, Gallyongeumsuhyeong 2). Per-person prices: Samil 95,000 won (from May 2026), Baengnyong 130,000, Cheongnyong 160,000, Gallyongeumsuhyeong 190,000. Every course ends with a choice of jajangmyeon, jjamppong or fried rice. Five posts came for work dinners or group gatherings, three as couples, three with family and two with friends. We read 30 posts from October 2025 to October 2026. Nineteen describe a visit. We set aside eight that were about other businesses in the same building or about the hotel's main branch, and three we could not read in full.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Tea arrives as soon as you sit down; nine posts mention it, some naming jasmine or oolong. Four posts noted a small candle under the soup bowl that kept it hot to the last spoonful.
  2. The windows look out over Cheonggyecheon; six posts mention the view, and one describes a private room with a full glass wall. One writer got a stream-side table when booking for four, but was seated in an area with no view when coming as a pair.
  3. Ten posts booked ahead. One was asked to choose the course when reserving; another phoned on the morning of the visit to lock in a course before the Buddha-jumps-over-the-wall soup sold out. Three posts say the dessert plate came with a written message after they mentioned a birthday or anniversary.
  4. Four posts ate in a private room. Three relay the restaurant's terms — five rooms, a 50,000 won room fee, Baengnyong course or above — which we treat as copied information. One post counted 'about four' rooms.

Three posts used the building's car park; two say it is a mechanical lot, and one says parking was validated at the till with a 5,000 won valet charge. One post had two hours free; 'two hours at lunch, three at dinner' appears only as copied information in another.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 19 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 19 posts read)

Three posts describe taking the escalator inside the Samil Building up to the second floor, where the entrance is. One post first said basement level 1, then gave the second floor in the same post; the basement holds a wine bar and a fish restaurant.

No post mentions a step at the door, wheelchair or pram access, or a lift; posts only mention the escalator to the second floor. That does not mean there is no lift — nobody wrote about it.

Only one post mentions the toilets: they are outside the restaurant. Nobody said whether they are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 22 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have changed. The Samil course was 89,000 won per person in posts from January and February 2026 and 95,000 won from May, with a different set of dishes. For single dishes, a January 2026 post gives 13,000 won for jajangmyeon and 25,000 for seafood jjamppong, while a September post gives 19,000 and 37,000; we cannot tell which is current. Three posts called it expensive, and one paid about 20,000 won for a draft beer.
  • Opening hours: six posts give 11:30–21:00 on weekdays, seven say it is closed at weekends, and four give a 14:30–17:30 break — mostly copied from the restaurant's listing. One post says only that it closes on Sundays. Two posts relay that group bookings on weekends and holidays can be arranged by phone.
  • Seven posts give the same phone number, 02-6255-9931; two booked or confirmed their course by phone.
  • No post describes queuing. Ten booked ahead, and one found year-end reservations hard to get. Nobody wrote about walking in without a booking.
  • One post found the course slow and waited a long time for dessert. Another asked for faster service and finished in about 1 hour 20 minutes.
  • Posts split on the jjamppong's heat: one said it made them sweat, another said the broth was not spicy. One post found it on the salty side.
  • Portions split two to one: two posts found the courses filling, one said the portions were small. One post suggests asking for a larger closing noodle dish.
  • Three news-roundup posts from one blogger were too long for us to read in full, so we did not count them as visits.
