신사돼지뽈집 A 1999 grill in Eunpyeong that sells pork cheek and nothing else

Data as of · Published ·

Sinsa Dwaeji Bboljip is an old-school grill on Galhyeon-ro in Eunpyeong-gu that sells pork cheek and nothing else. It opened in February 1999 and has been in the same room for twenty-six years, with "Korea's first bbolsal specialist" on the sign. Only 70 to 80 grams of cheek come off one pig; it carries almost no fat yet eats springy rather than dry. The menu is plain, chilli or short-rib-marinated cheek (200g, ₩17,000 each), kkeutsal (₩18,000) and pork skin (₩8,000) — the only sides are soybean stew and a bowl of rice. The meat comes lightly seasoned with soy and pepper, piled with roughly cut spring onion to grill alongside. The dipping sauce is the sweet chilli paste you would expect at a raw-fish place, with wasabi on top, which surprises a lot of people. Daily 14:00–24:00, last orders 22:50, closed Sundays. The shop's own Instagram is @bbolzip. The posts we read run from May to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Book through Naver and they give you the soybean stew or a soft drink free. Most of the posts we read mention it, and nearly everyone takes the stew. On its own it is a ₩3,000 item, and writer after writer says some version of "I wasn't expecting much from a freebie" before listing the tofu, courgette and onion in it. Several then order rice to tip into it, so a meat-only plan tends to end as a full dinner. One writer only found out about the booking perk afterwards.
  2. Not one writer calls it expensive, and the reason is weight rather than price: a portion is 200 grams, and two writers point out that this is the old standard at a time when many grills have quietly cut theirs to 150 or 180. Three people ate their fill on three portions; two could not finish two. A ten-year regular remembers 250g for ₩12,000 back then, and calls the rise slight by current standards.
  3. The meat is marinated, so the grate chars fast. Which is why the scene that recurs most in these posts is a server swapping the grate before anyone asks — "they come round without being called," "the ajummas are snipers with that grate." One writer found it too often, to the point of feeling awkward. Several also pass on the house advice: low flame, turn it a lot. One dissent on the welcome: "not exactly effusive."
  4. A lot hangs on these walls: the Handon domestic-pork certificate, a commendation from the district office, a pest-control membership plaque, and a run of television stills — KBS2's *Legendary Taste* and *Choi Jung-hoon's Night Park* come up most, with older shows named in a few posts. The board states that not only the pork but the rice and kimchi are Korean, and two writers saw a note that the sesame oil is pressed at a local mill. Two more copy down the nutrition panel for the cheek: 31.5g of protein and 268kcal per 200g.
  5. Several writers say it is bigger inside than it looks. Round steel tables and a jade-green wall set the tone, but further in there are square tables and a part-divided area — one writer reckons tables can be pushed together for ten. Office dinners and family groups turn up repeatedly. Two say the opposite, though: "not what you'd call roomy." Two writers note the smoke is drawn down through the table rather than up, so your clothes come out cleaner — but one post describes a large hood coming down from the ceiling, which cannot both be true.
  6. People walk here. Ten minutes or so from Eungam station by most accounts (they disagree on which exit), one to three minutes from a bus stop by others. It sits up a slope from the Bulgwangcheon stream path, but several writers treat it as a stop on that walk — in before dinner, or downhill along the water afterwards. It opens at two in the afternoon, and at least one party drank in daylight and walked home.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is bbolsal (뽈살 (200g)) — 24 of 29 posts.

Parking

2 posts say you can park; 3 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Parking splits. "Three or four spaces out front, call ahead" is copied verbatim in more than ten posts, but only five writers describe actually trying, and they disagree. One phoned ahead and was waved in. Another found it impossible on the day and says the surrounding roads are busy; a third tells you to leave the car in a public bay or a side street; a fourth simply says walk or take the subway. With three or four spaces on a main road, calling first is effectively required (02-354-6854).

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 29 posts

No post describes floors or stairs. The licence gives a ground-floor address and several writers say the sign is visible from down the road, but nobody records whether you step up or down on the way in. Two writers are sorry that the old sign has been replaced.

Not one post mentions a step, a ramp or a wheelchair. It is on a main road and one writer says the toilet is outside, but nobody records whether there is a lip at the door or how wide the aisles are. Seating is mostly round steel tables with a shelf under the chair for bags, which tells us nothing about clearance. If you are coming in a wheelchair or with a pushchair, calling is the only way to find out (02-354-6854).

Only two posts mention the toilet, and they say different things. One says it is outside the room and clean. The other expected nothing from the look of the place and found it separate for men and women and better kept than the dining room. The two are not necessarily in conflict — an outside toilet can still be split. Neither describes how you get there.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Three figures do not line up. (1) A portion is 200g in most posts, 230g in one. (2) Ordered separately, the soybean stew is ₩3,000 in four posts and ₩2,000 in one. (3) The bean-sprout soup that comes with the meat is cold in most accounts and hot in one. We could not establish which is current.
  • A dozen or so of the posts counted here are commissioned-looking copy. Search phrases — "Eungam station restaurant," "Bulgwangcheon restaurant" — are wedged between sentences, and the list of television appearances and the line about 70 to 80 grams per pig repeat almost word for word. We still counted them, because what was ordered, how many portions, what it cost and how the sauce was used differ from post to post: these people ate here. But the broadcast credits, the cut description and the opening hours are copied from one source, not seen by one person, so we did not count them as observations. Two posts disclose sponsorship — one in its opening line, one in a hashtag — and one states it paid its own way. One writer says only that they had "always paid their own way here, but came this time through a kind opportunity." Whether money changed hands, we do not know.
