Beonggu-galbi Sinsa-bonjeom
벙구갈비 신사본점 Galbi is ribs; Sinsa-bonjeom marks this as the original branch, in Sinsa-dong. What 'Beonggu' means, no writer says and we do not know. There are two more Beonggu-galbi in the same district, on Eungam-ro and Nokbeon-ro.
Data as of · Published ·
Bunggu Galbi's original branch sits on the Sinsa-dong rise in Eunpyeong, six or seven minutes' walk from Eungam station: a charcoal pork-rib house over two floors. It sells essentially two things — marinated ribs (350g, ₩18,000) and plain ribs (300g, ₩20,000). What it is known for is not the price but the arithmetic: every portion of meat comes with a free bowl of cold noodles — counted per portion, not per person. The cheonggukjang bean stew, ordered with rice, is ₩1,000, and the acorn jelly, spring-onion salad and radish water kimchi are refilled on request. Open eleven in the morning to eleven at night. This is a family restaurant: nine of the eighteen first-hand posts are family outings. We read posts from February to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Nine writers call it good value and nobody calls it dear — a rarer agreement than it sounds. Two posts give an actual bill. Four adults: four portions of meat, two bowls of rice, a bean stew and a cola came to ₩81,000 (July 2026). Another table of five ordered five portions. Since the free noodles are counted per portion, four portions means four bowls. There are two marks of prices creeping up. In May 2026 a regular noted the ribs had gone up ₩1,000 on the year — "no complaints, mind" — and every 2026 post says ₩18,000. The stew acquired a price too: in April 2026 a writer records that it used to come free with the rice and now costs ₩1,000.
- People come here with their families. Of the thirteen posts that name their company, nine are family: a Chuseok gathering, a mother's eightieth birthday with children, grandchildren and an aunt, a payday dinner with a mother-in-law, a foursome with parents, a writer with his wife and sister-in-law. The rest are two couples, one friend and one party of five. Nobody wrote about eating here alone. One writer explains the choice precisely: his elderly mother-in-law has little appetite for plain meat, so he picked a place where the meat is still on the bone. Several others make a version of the same point — sweet but not aggressive marinade, meat that comes off a rib, suits both the oldest and the youngest at the table. Large parties should think about the table, though. One group of five was seated at a four-top and found it too tight to grill on; another writer suggests booking two tables for five, and the first concludes you should keep it to four at busy times.
- Six writers waited and three did not — and the waits are short. Five minutes at twenty to eight on a weekday; five minutes with one party ahead at midday on a Saturday; one group saw a queue only forming as they left an hour and a half later. Tables turn quickly here. The timing is legible. Those who walked in came at five on a weekend afternoon, at three on a Sunday, and "early afternoon". Those who waited came at half past five on a weekend, midday Saturday, twenty to eight on a weekday, four on a weekend. One writer, finding it empty, guessed everyone was out at the cherry blossom along the stream. On remote queueing the two accounts do not match: one writer says she often joins the queue through one booking app, another says he checked a different app before setting out. We do not know which is right. One writer phoned ahead to book, over the Chuseok holiday.

Parking is where these posts disagree most. Nine say there is parking and one says there was none to be had — and the nine do not agree with each other. · "There's a car park right beside the building, and with the frontage that's maybe ten cars; I have never once had trouble" (July 2026) · "A dedicated car park behind the building, free" (June 2026) · "In front and directed by staff; tight nearby, about six spaces" (September 2026) · "In front and beside, but it's a famous place, so sometimes there's nothing free. Today there was exactly one space" (April 2026) · "Plenty of spaces — but at peak weekend times you queue for parking the way you queue for a table" (July 2026) And one writer drove and could not park at all: he dropped his parents off, joined the queue, went looking, and ended up in the district office car park (June 2026, half five on a weekend). Another simply directs readers to the community centre car park instead. Whether it is beside or behind, six cars or ten, we cannot tell you. But several posts converge on the same advice: if you are driving at a busy hour, plan on a public car park nearby.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Second floor | 6 of 18 posts |
|---|
When the ground floor fills, they send you up. Six writers mention the two floors and four of them went up because the ground floor was full — one regular notes that she usually sits downstairs and this was the first time she hadn't. Upstairs gets good notices: roomy enough for a work dinner or a family gathering, and one writer got the window table. One mentions a poster on the stairwell about a TV appearance; another, the wall of signed celebrity photographs by the till. Nobody writes about any way up other than the stairs.
Nobody writes about whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. In eighteen posts there is no ramp, no lip, no step, no lift. This is not a "no" — it is us not knowing. One thing does give us pause. The restaurant uses two floors and sends you upstairs when the ground floor is full — four writers describe exactly that. Not one says whether the stairs are the only way up. One mentions a poster on the stairwell, so stairs certainly exist; whether there is anything else, the posts do not say. If you are coming with someone who cannot manage stairs, it would be worth asking for a ground-floor table when you arrive — one family held an eightieth birthday party here, so it is evidently possible.
Not one post mentions the lavatory. In eighteen accounts there is nothing about whether it is inside or outside, whether it is shared between men and women, or which floor it is on. Reviews of grill houses usually say; here nobody did. That is not "there isn't one" — it is "nobody wrote it down".
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 22 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- On the service the accounts point in opposite directions: three good, two bad. For: a monthly regular says the staff always greet her with a smile even in the heat; another writer found them lowering the blind against the sun and raising it again when it cooled, and changing the grill plate unprompted; a third that they watched the fire for her. Against: "good food doesn't make up for the service — and it wasn't just me, the whole family felt it. When I asked whether something was cooked, or tried to order, I felt like I was in the way... speaking rudely to customers, making them feel they're a nuisance, is really not on" (August 2026). And: "it's genuinely busy, so your order can get missed or misheard and you end up shouting to be noticed" (April 2026). It reads as the same restaurant experienced from two sides. The place is packed and the tables turn fast; both unhappy writers describe a busy service, and two of the three happy ones are regulars. That is as far as we can take it.
- The thing to watch here is not the shop next door but the shop with the same name. There are three Bunggu Galbi in Eunpyeong: this one, the original on Eunpyeong-ro; a second on Eungam-ro; and a third on Nokbeon-ro. One writer lays out the relationship: the original did so well that the owners opened the Eungam branch themselves, two or three minutes away by car and ten on foot — "a separate restaurant, so be specific when you arrange to meet". Another watched the owner arrive from the Eungam branch to work the till here. So we set four posts aside. One states outright that the writer went to the Eungam branch; the other three are machine-assembled round-ups or reviews of other restaurants in which our name appears only as a link — to an Eungam-branch post. Writers check in to all three branches at once, so the check-in did not separate them; only reading the text did. One more writer, eating at another branch, wrote that the original in her old neighbourhood is much the better one. We have kept her verdict and left her out of the count.
- No post here declares a comped meal. Nine writers say they paid, four posting the receipt. But two posts needed reading differently. One writes up a payday family dinner and then appends a block headed "the essentials" — last orders around 22:00–22:30, parking for three or four cars, remote queueing through an app — none of which he could have observed. We counted his own account and none of the numbers in that block. Another lists, in one line, "groups welcome, booking, wi-fi, waiting area, high chairs, parking" — the shape of a copied amenity panel. So we did not count the wi-fi, the high chairs or the waiting area; from that post we counted only the parking she actually did ("lucky — exactly one space free today"). Which means this page says neither that there are high chairs nor that there are not. Nine of these outings are family meals, and not one writer says they saw a child's chair.
- Eighteen posts is not eighteen people — we did not check for repeats, and one blogger wrote twice under the same name, in February and in June. Of the twenty-seven confirmed posts, four were not about this branch at all and five were round-ups written without going, or meals eaten at another branch. That is why the number is eighteen and not twenty-seven. Our window runs from February to September 2026 — eight months, not a full year. We have read nothing about what this place is like in winter.
