Duldul Chicken Euljiro 4-ga-jeom

둘둘치킨 을지로4가점 An old-style chicken-and-beer house off Euljiro 4-ga, with street tables out front

Data as of · Published ·

The Euljiro 4-ga branch of Duldul Chicken is a three-minute walk from exit 10, in the lane across from the Sampoong Nexus building: an old-style chicken-and-beer house. It uses the ground and first floors and puts three or four tables out on the street. The centre of it is the plain fried chicken — thin batter, salted in the batter itself — and a half-and-half bird costs ₩21,000. It is a second-stop place: three of the six writers came here after eating somewhere else. The posts we read run from June 2025 to July 2026, and there are only six of them. Why so few is set out below.

What sets it apart

  1. All six posts begin with the batter. Five call it thin, and all five give that as the reason they liked it — thick coatings and heavy sauces being what they say has happened to chicken everywhere else. One writer says outright that she does not much like fried food, and that this batter is why she ate it anyway (32066). The seasoning is in the batter, not the sauce. Two note that the chicken is salted enough to eat with nothing on it at all. Which is why the sauced versions taste less sweet than you expect — not sticky, not sugary, and the soy glaze pulled towards salt rather than sweetness. If sweetness is what you are after, this is not the shop.
  2. There are tables out on the street. Two posts describe them — three or four of them in front of the shop, in a lane one writer calls unusually quiet for Euljiro (32075). Both wrote in summer. Inside is tight. One writer calls the gaps between tables narrow and decides she likes it that way, as the noise of an Euljiro evening (32065); another simply says the room is not large. What the room has instead is a first floor, kept for groups — two posts note that upstairs is given over to parties, which makes it a place for a work dinner. Read together: upstairs if there are several of you, downstairs or outside if there are two.
  3. Half of what is written about this place is about the things that cost nothing. Puffed macaroni snacks, shredded cabbage under mayonnaise and ketchup, pickled radish, salt. Four posts mention them and all four reach for the same idea — that nobody puts these out any more, and that the cabbage under mayonnaise and ketchup is the taste of a neighbourhood chicken shop thirty years ago. One writer argues the plainness is the point: this is all there is, and that is exactly why it feels the way it does (32065). The room is described the same way — tables packed under neon, red leatherette chairs, wooden tops, and a smell of frying oil that she counts as part of it rather than against it.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 6 posts

One post mentions parking, and it says there is none. No car park, she writes, but the subway is right there, which is what makes it work as a second stop after work (32065). The other five say nothing about parking at all — nobody drove, nobody says where they left a car. Everything we read is people arriving on foot from work or from another table, which suggests this is not a place people drive to — but that is us inferring, not us reading.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 6 posts

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across the six, the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, threshold and stairs never appear. There is a floor above, and nobody says how you reach it — by stairs or otherwise. The tables out front are described as being right on the lane, but no one looked at whether there is a step at the door. That is not an absence of a step; it is an absence of anyone who checked.

Not one post mentions the toilets. Whether they are inside, out in the building, or separated by sex — the word does not appear in any of the six. For a place that uses two floors, nobody says which one they are on either.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 7 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The numbers on this page come from six posts. Twenty-nine were collected for this address, and twenty-two of them were about other branches — Duldul Chicken is a nationwide chain and our records hold it under the bare name, so posts from a dozen other branches across Seoul and beyond came in with it. Two were not about Duldul Chicken at all: one describes a different bar as "pure Duldul style", another a shop in Jongno as "the Duldul-style chicken place my husband had been hunting for". Six is not many. To see whether several people agree about something you want ten or more; here, apart from the batter (five) and the free snacks (four), everything rests on two or three voices. More posts may change what this page says.
  • Not one post records the opening hours. Nowhere in the six is there a time the shop opens or closes. There are hints that it is open late — one party came in after nine because nothing else was still serving (32065), two others came straight from work on a summer evening. So we know it runs into the night, and not what time it stops. We nearly published another restaurant's hours. The extraction tool pulled "Mon–Sat 10:00–21:30, break 15:00–16:30" for this place; reading the post shows those are the hours of a butcher's restaurant in Jongno 5-ga that appears in the same post — the writer ate there first and came here second (32075). A regular expression cannot tell whose hours those are. So we have published none.
  • You come by subway, and three posts give directions. Three minutes on foot from exit 10 at Euljiro 4-ga (32064); straight out of that exit and across from the Sampoong Nexus building (32066); or, from the same exit, into the lane, where you look for the brightest and busiest thing in it (32065). A fourth places it between Euljiro 3-ga and 4-ga. Nobody writes about coming by bus.
  • Nobody says they waited. Across the six posts there is no mention of a queue. Two say the place was full — one writer saw it packed from the lane and went in anyway, drawn by the noise (32065); another found it neither crowded nor empty (32068). Both were seated straight away, which suggests this is not a queueing place, perhaps because of the floor upstairs — though that is our guess, not their words. If there are several of you, the first floor is kept for groups, so ring ahead.
  • The prices here are for a whole bird, not for one person. There is no rice-and-soup side to this menu, and in all six posts one chicken was shared between two or three. Half-and-half ₩21,000, plain ₩20,000, sauced ₩22,000, and ₩23,000 for a half-and-half with the soy glaze. The half-and-half held at ₩21,000 from November 2025 to June 2026. We could not settle the price of a drink. One post writes "draught, two glasses, ₩5,000, x2" and we cannot tell which number is the price (32068). And the dearest thing on the board — the ₩37,000 chickenbangi — is a name and a price with nobody behind it. We do not know what arrives.
  • One digit of the street number is in dispute. The Naver map entry and the check-in widgets give 8 Euljiro 20-gil; one post gives 10 Euljiro 20-gil, followed in brackets by the old lot number — which matches our licence record exactly, character for character (32065). So this is certainly the Euljiro 4-ga branch, but whether the street number is 8 or 10 we cannot say, and we have kept the lot number our records hold. The lane matters more than the number anyway: out of exit 10, across from the Sampoong Nexus. Two posts give the same phone number, 02-2265-5989.
