BACKDON
빽돈 중구 을지로 Ppaekdon Jung-gu Euljiro A pork grill house in a lane off exit 9 at Euljiro 3-ga, where you cook the aged belly and collar yourself.
Data as of · Published ·
Backdon Jung-gu Euljiro is a pork grill house behind a yellow sign, fifty metres into the lane from exit 9 at Euljiro 3-ga. Belly and collar are aged by a method the shop calls water aging, and the board also runs to jowl fat, skin-on belly and honeycomb-scored rind. You grill it yourself. Order a set and the black-pork kimchi stew and the vinegared squid come with it at no charge; at lunch a good many office workers come for the stew or a fried rice alone and never touch the grill. It is a franchise with several Seoul branches. The posts we read run from April to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours
What sets it apart
- You do the grilling. Nobody cooks at your table here — a member of staff wipes the plate with a piece of fat and lays the meat on, and from there it is yours. One writer says they will step in and show you how if you are struggling; another found the flame fierce while the inside of the meat stayed raw, had to keep adjusting it all evening, and says that alone is why she would not come back. Two note the warming rim around the plate, where cooked pieces sit without burning.
- A great many people here got a side dish for nothing. Write a receipt or photo review on Naver and the shop hands you the 'dirty bomb' steamed egg or the grilled corn cheese — nine of the twenty first-hand posts got one that way, and one writer says it also comes free if you queue more than twenty minutes. So the dish's reputation here is largely not the verdict of people who paid for it. Some did pay; two of those found the sauce heavy or the taste not what they expected.
- The room is small. Two writers counted the round tables — six to eight of them. One found it cramped and oddly triangular; one sat by the door and had to shift herself every time somebody pushed it open; one says four people and a beer bottle would not fit on the table at first. One post disagrees — she came at one in the afternoon on a weekday and found it roomy, with space between the tables. That may be the difference between lunch and a full evening, but we could not confirm it. Two writers remark that the tables themselves are round and generous, big enough for six or eight, so it is the room that is small, not the table.
- In the evening you wait. One writer sat down at six-twenty on a weekday and a queue formed behind her; another arrived at five on a Tuesday expecting it quiet and found it already full of work parties with a list running; another watched people waiting outside at half past nine on a Saturday night. There is a waiting bench and a sign-up sheet at the door. Book and you walk in — four writers reserved through Naver and waited for nothing; the shop takes two to twelve, and parties of twenty-four to thirty-six by arrangement. The two who found no queue came on a weekday evening and just before the dinner rush respectively.
- Noticeably many of the customers are from abroad. The sign outside spells the name BACKDON in large Roman letters, and three writers remark on it: one says there really were a lot of foreign customers; one watched Southeast Asian guests waiting outside through her meal; one looked up as she was leaving to find that the room had turned over and everyone left but her table was foreign. One concluded the place is aimed at them.
- You may bring a bottle — one writer says the first one carries no corkage. She had been out collecting a whisky, went looking for a place in Euljiro that would let her open it, and chose here; the staff asked, unprompted, whether she would like ice and a rocks glass. This comes from a single post and we have not confirmed it still holds — ring ahead if it matters.
- The staff come off unusually well. Eight writers mention the service and not one has a complaint. They fetch what you need at the busiest hour; they will bring garlic and chillies if you ask; one writer was told, before she asked, that the contents of a set could be swapped; one who ate alone says they were just as kind to her. Another was handed a wet wipe at the end of the meal and offered a second.

Parking
1 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.
| Posts saying you can park | 1 of 20 posts |

Almost everything written here about parking is copied. A paragraph appears word for word across several posts — no car park of its own, the street bays outside exit 9 at ₩1,500 per ten minutes, the Hi Parking garage at ₩1,000 — and it is the shop's own notice, written by people who did not park. Exactly one writer actually drove there. She came on a Sunday and says the street bays are free all day then, free after noon on Saturdays and after seven on weekdays, and that you can generally find something if you are willing to look. Those free hours are one person's account and we have not checked them. One other post's header says only that parking is not possible.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 20 posts read) |
|---|
Nor does anyone write about the floor or the stairs. The registered address puts the shop on the ground floor of its building, and several posts copy that address across, but not one writer says they went up or down anything, or names a floor. A few describe simply opening the door from the lane, which reads like street level, and that is as far as we can take it.
Nobody writes about the threshold or about getting in with wheels. Across twenty posts the words step, ramp, kerb, wheelchair and pushchair do not appear once. We know the shop is on a corner inside a lane and that the door is propped wide open in good weather, and we know that sitting near it means shifting aside for people coming through — but whether there is a step at the door we do not know. What we do know is that the lavatory is shared with the building and is outside. This is not 'there is no step'; it is 'not one writer mentioned it'.
The lavatory is outside the shop — but only one writer says so from having gone. Hers is the practical version: it is out there, it is shared with the building, it is small, go before you come. A second post carries a header line giving an outside lavatory and a door code, but that post never describes using it, so we did not count it. Whether there are separate men's and women's, or an accessible one, is not written anywhere in the twenty posts. Nor do we know whether the code still works.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Thirty posts came in and we counted twenty. Ten are out of the denominator. Eight went up in the ten days between 18 and 29 April 2026 and reproduce the same promotional copy in the same order — the water-aging explanation, the four ways to eat it, the four side dishes, the four walking routes, the two car parks, all in the same sequence in all eight. Not one of the eight says what was ordered, what it cost, or who was there. One carries a line at the foot admitting its information comes from Naver's public place data, and still writes 'I went myself' in the body. The other two are a ranked round-up of fifteen Euljiro grill houses with prices copied off listings, and a post that says the meat was delicious for five paragraphs without naming a single dish or price. Counting them would turn twenty into thirty and make half the numbers below a lie.
- Two writers declared the visit sponsored. One put the tag in her opening line, one only in the caption at the very bottom of the post — neither says so in the body, so you have to scroll to find it. The shop's own cream makgeolli is drunk in exactly one post, and it is one of those two. On the other side, six writers state in so many words that they paid, and the remaining twelve say nothing either way. Nothing either way does not mean unsponsored; it means we do not know.
- The opening hours do not agree from post to post. Six give eleven at night as the weekday closing time and two give ten past ten — and both of the ten-past-ten posts are from June 2026, which reads like a later extension, though we cannot confirm it. Saturday and Sunday opening splits too, between half past twelve (five posts) and eleven (one, in August). Five agree that Friday and Saturday run to three in the morning. One post gives six in the evening to midnight Monday to Thursday and closed on Sundays, the reverse of the other nine, and we threw it out entirely — the same blogger has written up several other grill houses in the same streets, and her own body text describes a place that is open in the daytime. Check before you go.
- Backdon has nothing to do with Baek Jong-won. One writer admits she had assumed for years that it was his, and notes that the search engine suggests the same thing to enough people that it comes up as a related query. It is a separate franchise with several Seoul branches, and this page is about one of them: the Euljiro branch at 22 Euljiro 14-gil. Posts about other branches are not in the count.
