Ageru
아게루 Japanese shabu-shabu that finishes with a bowl of curry udon, down a Euljiro lane
Data as of · Published ·
Ageru is a Japanese-style shabu-shabu and sukiyaki house in a lane off exit 9 at Euljiro 3-ga, one to five minutes' walk, on the ground floor at 18 Euljiro 14-gil. There is no proper sign — just a small one on the wall beside the door, and seven writers admit to walking past it. Each table has a burner and you cook for yourself; what marks the place out is that at the end a member of staff turns the leftover broth into a bowl of curry udon. You choose between a clear broth, sukiyaki and tom yam, or take two of them in a divided pot. At lunch, 11.30 to 2.30, rice replaces the noodles and it costs less. The posts we read run from January to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- Whether you queue depends on when you come. Six posts say there is a wait and eight say there was none — and they are not contradicting each other. Every "yes" is a weekday lunch: one queued despite arriving before noon, one waited twenty-five minutes, one nearly got caught at half past eleven, one says lunch almost always has a line. Every "no" is a weekday evening or a Sunday afternoon. Friday evening sits on the hinge: one writer found a single other table at half six and a full room by seven; another was the last in before a queue formed behind her. You join by kiosk, and one writer notes that people who do not know this simply stand there.
- They do not take bookings by telephone. A March 2026 writer rang to reserve, was told no, and instead asked which hours were busy — she was told lunch, not dinner, and found the evening comfortable. She planned around the phone call rather than a reservation. One other post says a booking can be made through the waitlist app, but that appears to be a queue registration rather than a reservation: three other writers describe the same kiosk as the way you join the line. Whether a table can be held in advance, we could not establish.
- A lot of these writers are regulars. Seven say they had been before: one on her third year of repeat visits since 2024; one who has come since it opened and says neither the food nor the portions have changed; one who counts about four visits; one who worked nearby years ago and came back with old colleagues; one who used to come for dinner and this time tried the lunch. Two of them no longer work in the area and still make the trip. Three more say they will return, and one says she never will.
- Nobody calls it expensive. All six posts that discuss price say the opposite: reasonable for Euljiro, worth a certain return at ₩14,000, a full course for about twenty thousand a head, easy on the wallet at lunch. But only ten posts give any price at all, and not one gives a price for the sukiyaki or the tom yam. The lunch set appears at ₩12,000, ₩13,000 and ₩14,000, and whether that is three different sets or a price that moved, we cannot tell.
- Nine writers say there is plenty of it — more vegetables and meat than expected, as much veg as you can eat, twice the beef of other shabu houses, enough for one person without adding anything. One writer disagrees, and she is specific about why: she is used to places with unlimited refills, and by that measure the basket looked thin — though the same post calls the beef double the usual. One party of four were given two people's worth of vegetables and told to say when it ran out.
- Four writers call it quiet, and nobody calls it loud — and all four reach for the same contrast: a street full of noisy bars, and this one room that is not. One calls it among the few places in the area where you can hold a conversation over dinner; one remembers Japanese songs playing through a calm Thursday evening; one uses lunch here to get away from things; one prefers it to a bar for talking. Four recommend it for a date.
- Seven call it clean and nobody says otherwise, and the words barely change: small and tidy, very tidy, neatly fitted out, tidy and snug. Three are clearly surprised, having expected an old Euljiro room — one says it could be mistaken for a café from outside, another that it stops short of full Japanese-restaurant solemnity, which made it easy to walk into.

Parking
5 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Not one of these writers parked a car. More than ten posts mention parking, but most are the one-line "no parking" copied from the listing. Five put it in their own words and tell you what to do instead — take the subway because Euljiro 3-ga is next to impossible for cars; it is down a lane, use a lot nearby; no space, come by public transport; walk; parking is hard. None of those five drove either. They looked it up; they did not do it, and not one names a nearby car park. If you mean to drive, our posts cannot answer you.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 22 posts read) |
|---|
It is on the ground floor — the registry says so, and eight posts copy the "1층" when they write the address out. It sits back in a lane, and two writers say that from outside it could pass for a café. But not one describes the entrance itself, whether there are steps, what the door is like; seven only say they walked past it for want of a sign.
Nobody wrote about the step at the door. Across all twenty-four posts there is nothing about a threshold, about whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in, about the width of the doorway. Seven describe the lane and the small sign, but not one of them looked at whether the lane is level or whether there are steps at the entrance. We can write neither yes nor no.
One writer says there is no lavatory inside. In a January 2026 post she calls the room clean and the seating ample, and then adds it as the one drawback: the lavatory is not in the premises. Hers is the only post of twenty-four to mention a lavatory at all. Where it is instead, whether it is shared with the building, whether you need a key — nobody says. Beyond one person's word that there is not one inside, we know nothing.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- There is nowhere much to wait. The writer who waited twenty-five minutes explains why it mattered: the restaurant opens straight onto the road, so she stood across the street for the duration. Hers is the only post that mentions waiting space at all, and nobody says what it is like in rain or in deep winter.
- This is where the posts split hardest. Two writers had a poor time. One titles her post "the day I had the worst experience at a place I love": she raised a hand to order the rice course, a member of staff brought udon instead without a word, dropped it into the pot so that hot broth splashed her and drew only a mumbled apology, and when called back asked, pointedly, whether she had ordered it. She is a regular of some four visits, writes that this had never happened before, and ends by saying she will keep coming. The second is shorter and harder: the staff were grossly unfriendly, and she will not return. A third describes the closing noodles being made by silently ladling out her tom yam broth, and wishes she had been told, or given a bowl for it. There is another side. One writer had karaage sent over after a member of staff spilled a raw egg on her friend; one was told the egg sauce is refilled on request; one asked which broth combination was most popular and got an answer. Six of twenty-four posts talk about the staff at all, and those six divide down the middle.
- Nine posts copy down the "highball 1+1" signs; exactly one writer ordered a highball. That writer reports being quoted ₩12,000 for the two-for-one when a ₩7,000 highball was on the menu. The other eight all skipped it — not much of a drinker, only at lunch, an alcohol-free day, watching what she ate. This is one person's account and we have not verified it. What we can count is that no other post says which glass the offer applies to, or what it costs. One writer does say the highballs inside the evening set are generously poured.
- It is a small room. Five say so: not for a group, four people at most; not wide but clean; better for two or three; simply not large. Two say otherwise — eight tables of four, enough for a crowd; plenty of seats. Two more single out the tables rather than the room: with the pot, the vegetables and the meat set down, four people ran out of surface — and for one of them that was why the vegetables came two portions at a time. One writer notes that when a large party is in, the queue gets longer.
- Coming by subway is simply assumed here. Eight writers give their own walk, but they do not agree on the exit — four say exit 9, two say 10, one says 11, one says either 9 or 11 — nor on the time: one minute, two, two again, five. One adds seven minutes from Chungmuro. The trouble is less the distance than finding it: seven posts say there is no sign. The one that exists is small and on the wall beside the door rather than above it, easy to walk past; one writer was not sure it was a restaurant at all; another admits to getting lost every time. Two say to look for the drawing of a cooking pot on the door.
- We cannot tell you when it opens. Of the fifteen posts that give hours, seven say weekdays 11.30 to 22.00 and weekends 16.00 to 22.00; six say simply every day, 10.00 to 22.00; one says 11.20 on weekdays. The six who say 10.00 all give no days at all; the seven who say 11.30 all separate the weekend out. Against that: a January 2026 writer arrived at half past eleven and nearly hit a queue, and a July writer who went "at opening" to beat the queue ate off the lunch menu. One post also closes the weekend earlier — 16.00 to 20.00 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, against 22.00 in six others. A break from 15.00 to 17.00 appears in seven posts with no disagreement, and one adds that there is no break at weekends. Last orders are 13.30 and 20.30. If you are planning a late weekend dinner, ring first.
- At lunch your choices narrow. A July 2026 writer notes two things: in the evening you can have the pot split between two broths, but at lunch — too busy, she guesses — you cannot, and a table has to order all the same dish. No other post says whether they ordered separately at lunch, and hers is the only account of this rule. That the lunch menu differs, though, four writers confirm: less beef, rice instead of noodles, and a lower price.
