Yeonnam Jokbal 1987

연남족발1987 연남점 Deep-fried pig's trotter by the old railway park in Yeonnam-dong

Data as of · Published ·

Yeonnam Jokbal 1987 is a pig's-trotter house three to five minutes' walk from exit 3 at Hongik University Station, on the ground floor at 222 Donggyo-ro, across from the Yeonnam police box. The registered name is longer; the sign and the customers use this one. What it is known for is frying the trotter — twenty-five of the twenty-six writers ate the fried version, and nineteen of those ordered it half-and-half with the hot, sweet-chilli one. It all arrives on one wide tray with side dishes, five sauces, a soup and leaves for wrapping, and the table has the tray's footprint printed on it. One wall opens onto a covered terrace that is unzipped in warm weather. The posts we read run from December 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Nineteen writers say the same two things about the fried trotter: a crust that cracks like fried chicken, and meat still wet under it. Four thought at first glance it was chicken. Not one post complains of soggy or peeling batter. Eight had never eaten a fried trotter before this meal. One puts the difficulty precisely: fry it hard and the meat goes dry, protect the meat and the batter goes limp — and says this kitchen finds the line.
  2. The hot half is genuinely hot. Nineteen posts say so, one says not very. Two try to calibrate it — a shade above Shin Ramyun, a shade below fire noodles. Yet eight writers who declare outright that they cannot take heat all finished it, and they describe the same three remedies: alternate with the fried half, wrap it in cabbage or lettuce, and take a mouthful of the sweet fruit makgeolli or the iced sikhye. Nobody reports being beaten by it.
  3. Fifteen posts are about the terrace. One wall is clear plastic on a zip, opened in good weather and closed in bad. Some found it closed — a mid-March 2026 writer says it was still too cold to have it open; an early-April one describes a wind screen coming down and blankets being handed out. Two say you feel the openness from inside the room too.
  4. Fifteen posts talk about the quantity and every one of them says the same thing: there is a great deal of it. One pair nearly cleared it, one party of four doubted they could, one says come with at least three, another says three people ate until they burst. Five stop to count the side dishes. Only one writer boxed anything to take home. Nobody says the portion is small.
  5. Come early if you want to sit straight down. Five posts describe a queue. The most exact is a Friday evening: one party ahead, in within thirty minutes. A March 2026 writer arrived before six, sat immediately, and watched a queue form half an hour later; a December 2024 one found people waiting from noon at the weekend. Seven more who did get a table note the room was already full when they walked in — at six in the evening, early on a weekday, and late on a rainy night alike. Two had booked and walked past it.
  6. Six posts remark on the foreign customers. One actually counts: two Chinese-speaking tables while they ate. Another says that when the room filled at five, most of the arrivals were visitors; a third got there for the 3.30 opening and watched them come in soon after. Two note the menu and the sauce card are printed in Chinese, English and Japanese, and two more that there is a separate Google review promotion aimed at visitors.
  7. You order from a tablet at the table, or a kiosk. Nine posts say so, and one adds that you pay on the way out. Two mention a QR code on the tablet that gives you the wi-fi and a short guide to eating trotter well. It also means you need not flag anyone down — only two posts in the whole set have anything to say about the staff.
  8. Ten writers say they will come back — saved as a place of their own, a shop they would visit weekly if it were nearer, somewhere to bring a partner next time. Two actually returned: one had eaten at the Hongdae branch and came to this one (not quite the same thing), and one diary records going back because the fried trotter was that good. The other fourteen say nothing about their own comings and goings — which is not the same as saying it was their first time.

Parking

4 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot4 of 26 posts

Not one writer parked a car here. Eight posts say there is no parking, but four of those are the shop's own information block copied over, so we left them out. Four go further in their own words — one names the nearby public car park and its rate to the minute, three say use a public or private lot nearby, or come by transit. Even those four did not park. They looked it up; they did not do it. If you mean to drive, our posts cannot answer you.

Getting there

Map showing where Yeonnam Jokbal 1987 is

Getting inside

Toilet inside5 of 26 posts

It is on the ground floor — the registry says so, and twenty-two posts copy the "1층" when they write out the address. But not one describes the entrance itself: how many steps, what the door is like. Two say only that it is easy to find, being right on the road. Three note that the open side of the terrace faces that road, so you can see in from outside.

Nobody wrote about the step at the door. Across all twenty-six posts there is nothing about a threshold, about whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in, about how wide the doorway is. Not even the boilerplate accessibility line from the listing appears. So we can write neither yes nor no — that nobody looked is the whole of what we know.

Five writers note that the lavatory is inside the premises, and the relief in the phrasing is the point: you do not have to go out for it. What none of them describe is the lavatory itself — whether it is separated by sex, how many cubicles, whether it is cramped. Nobody says.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • A word on where these numbers come from. Twenty-four of the twenty-six posts fall inside four months — five of them across five days in March 2026, then four in April, eight in May, six in June. More than twenty ordered exactly the same thing: the ₩65,000 half-and-half platter, the ₩15,000 oysters, a ₩16,000 fruit makgeolli. Exactly one post declares it was paid for, tagging the disclosure in its first line. We counted them anyway, because the fruit wine varies, and because each carries something only a person in the room could write — waiting behind one party for thirty minutes, tables set too close, leftovers boxed to take home. But do not read this as twenty-six people who each chose the place and paid their own way. On top of that, nine posts describe the shop's standing review promotions on Naver, Google and receipt photos; three of those collected free noodles and one a free drink. This place is always collecting reviews.
  • They disagree about the room. Six find it roomy — tables well apart, plenty of them, fine for a party of ten or more. Two find it tight: tables pushed up against each other, a room that is not large. The writer who called it tight also wrote about the noise — loud at first, though she admits she was soon making it herself. If you want somewhere quiet, this is not it. Two say the tray was so wide there was not enough table left for it.
  • Getting there without a car is well covered. Eight writers give their own walk: three, four or five minutes from exit 3 at Hongik University Station, ten from the Gyeongui line side, five from exit 2. The gap between three minutes and ten looks like a matter of which exit, but we have not confirmed that. Four place it beside the Gyeongui Line Forest Park and three across from the Yeonnam police box. One took a taxi because of the rain. The line "211m from exit 3", though, recurs word for word — lifted from the Naver listing, so we did not count it.
  • Almost nobody writes about the staff — two posts out of twenty-six. One says, in a summary line, that they were kind; the other asked which fruit makgeolli was most popular and got an answer. Nobody reports poor service. Ordering from a tablet and paying on the way out probably leaves little occasion to meet anyone, but that is our guess, not theirs.
  • The place is not what it was in 2024. The one post we have from December 2024 describes buckwheat noodles and a blood-sausage soup arriving with the meal at no charge, and raw winter oysters available on the side. None of the twenty-five posts from 2026 has any of the three: the noodles are a ₩9,000 addition or a reward for a review, and one writer was told by staff that out of season the raw oysters give way to the salted ones. An August 2026 post records the change in so many words — the noodles used to come, and seem not to any more. Even the free soup shifts: seven say bean sprout, three say dried radish leaf, one says radish. Which is the soup today, we cannot tell.
